Nitro worms...they still sell them up here...agree with the holy mess they make. I tried them last year on my idiot bass lake (i.e. the bass are so easy to catch, even from shore with a slip bobber and worm, even an 'Idiot' can catch 'em......lol...that would be me) and they did make a huge difference. The difference being even when it was a fish a cast as soon as i offered up the nitro worms not a bite to be had!

Stunning Tyler. 2 questions...what the hell is a 'banana'....lol and did you have live bait with you for the walleye and they hit lures better, or is it just that you did not have any. I'm relatively new to this kind of fishing and am always intrigued by walleye caught with lures....i've had a few but not often...guess i dont use them enough maybe. Just curious.....i dont know if you get what i'm asking....lol...neither do i...its 5am. Anyhoo...great report!

Ok....i think its unfair to label those products as "gimmicks" as they have helped a lot of people quit. I am fully aware that i am not "nicotine free" at this point and am probably ingesting more nicotine daily than i might have done on some days when i was smoking. However, i chose this method after careful consideration. i know from beating other addictions in my life that reducing gradually works...FOR ME... I like what i hear about Champix...but even Champix does not work for some people. But as i've stated before...Champix sounds like a pretty good plan 'B' for me and i appreciate all the insight you share about your experience Thanks dood....i'm gonna give it 1000001% Will do Bubbles...thanks man. Not only will i get more time fishing....i can afford it too!!!! Awesome spincast....i'm in awe...and all these success stories harden my resolve to do this. Thanks for your support. Thats exactly what i think. No way i'm gonna have just one,,,i know where it leads. I know how my addicted thought patterns work too...if i justify one i can justify more. Thanks man....i'll check it out....jeeeze...i'm sweating already just thinking about exercise. But her we are again...another success story....congrats daplumma...good job Where the hell ya been buddy? have you been out for Bass yet? Anyway thanks for the encouragement Gord, it will be a pleasure not to have to step outside of your Frabill this winter or poison you in mine! The Crappie should be in in Mile and trap...i aint got out as much this year...fancy a trip out soon? Once again...thanks for your support. :thumbsup_anim: Thanks for taking the time to post that Harrison....this is helpful to everyone...not just the hopelessly addicted

Me too wayne...if it was not for 'tough Love" when i was fighting with other addictions in my life i would have been dead long ago. Its a shame that the concept is out of favour in the climate of political correctness we live in today.

Thanks for your insights Todd, I dont want to speak for Paul (Merc), but i think given what he has openly talked about on the forum before that he is in any confusion about the nature of 'addictions'....lol...in fact he is somewhat of an expert on the subject! I'm sure he realises that he needs to get back on the 'programme' and has even asked me for help....OMG..."the Blind leading the Blind" or as they say in proffesional circles "peer Support" Like you say Todd...a few more gadgets on the boat before summer is over looks to be on the cards...thanks for your support buddy LOL.did i mention i have a Red Bull addiction already too :wallbash

Very good advice Ted, I think there are a few tried and tested ways to approach giving up, but at the end of the day everyone is different and what works for some may not for another...in my view as long as the 'means' do not cause harm to others its the 'end' that counts. PM sent Paul...i think we could be mutually beneficial to each other here. Did you get to keep the boat!!!!???? Thanks LBH.....and congrats to you...i'm only 2 days in and am in awe of those of you who continue to successfully not smoke Went to pick up a prescription today(unrelated to my smoking issue) and was looking at the nicotine gum in anticipation of my first fishing trip without smokes. The pharmacist said it was a good idea and would not be harmful to double with the patches for short periods. During our conversation he also mentioned Champix and was very enthusiastic about it, he said the same thing about the smell turning your stomach when using Champix. I dont think i will be unsuccessful the way i'm doing it now...even at this early stage...but its always good to have a plan B. Thanks Again SRT8 Interesting take on the issue, not sure i agree with all of it...but absolutely agree with getting to a point of "acceptance", only for me its accepting i am not gonna smoke ever again...no matter whether I think I love it or hate it. Thanks for your encouragement Mike...much appreciated. :
-
Thanks Grimace, you done good....i admire your achievement...hope i can emulate it That helps....I'm pretty pumped that i've even managed one day with the help of patches. Got your PM John.....thanks buddy...very inspirational. This COMMUNITY ROCKS! Thanks Shadowfly...i'm no David Beckham but i love playing soccer. * years ago i would play 3 times a week, but i found it less enjoyable as my age and fitness(smoking and running for 90 minutes dont work) took its toll, i am gonna sign up for Dryden United again this summer, played one season 3 years agobut was too out of shape and did not enjoy it at all. As for the money side of it i have another page open on my laptop as I type...just found a MinnKota I-Pilot for my Terrova for $325 US....and we just got an HST Rebate cheque thingy...hmmmmmmmmm.....very tempting
-
Thanks Kenzy...and congrats to you...i need to here the successes right now. LOL...funny enough i work in a substance misuse detox centre.....i say all this stuff to my clients everyday....its not so easy when the shoe is on the other foot. Thanks Geoff....i'm gonna do it. I hope i find it easy...lol...that would be awesome! I agree to a certain degree Maureen. However i dont think i really wanted to quit...kinda done for my wife and boy Jack....not to mention the finaciaL side to it. However, i never intended quitting drinking either...i booked into a rehab to avoid the law.....but about 2 weeks into the programme something clicked....so sometimes you just have to drag the horse to water, hold its head under for a while and see what happens Its weird bfisher, jack has never said anything about my smoking...until this morning...the morning i make a decision to quit....coincidence? LOL...you are kidding right....its toooooo stressful trying to get an appointment to see a doctor..hell....we dont even have a doctor. But...good advice...thanks. Cancer scares the crap outta me Wayne....and to think i increase the risks of jack and mum losing me that way is just not on anymore.
-
LOL....YOU BETTER!

love the scenery shots, i grew up by a river and that brought back some fond memories...thanks for sharing

The weather was stunning Joey, the fishing average...and the company great, good day all in all. When are you guys gonna head North? Thanks FD...cant wait till mid July when the big girls go deep. Thanks Wayne....i always stop for a few seconds while i'm out to make a mental note of how lucky i am so i dont ever take it for granted. Dood...i had to do something to catch you up!!! lol pick a tune JB...i'll see what i can come up with Thanks Bfisher Thanks Homer, i am trying to add more detail to my reports....it helps me too as a record to look back at.
-
Keep it coming folks...muchly appreciated. Thanks Disco, I am trying to take it one day at a time but i'd be lying if i said the one thing that makes me think its gonna suck is not smoking and fishing....good to hear it don't! Thanks man...i day or 1 hour at a time i'm gonna get through this! Good advice...and thank you LOL...thanks Lew, i think i'll avoid that...the stress of worrying about cancer at this point would make me want to smoke even more...lol. Thanks Kerry, good advice. I actually stopped smoking in my vehicles and home 8 years ago...lol...kind of happened exactly the same time as i got married...she does not smoke.
-
Yup...good idea...i'm gonna skip morning coffee...choose a juice or water and do 15 minutes on the cross trainer Thanks Sinclair, my new I-Pilot is only 40 days away :thumbsup_anim: I agree Fish4Eyes, my experience with alcohol taught me just that....for me it will have to be all or nothing approach. Thanks harrison....hearing the urges will fade is what i need to hear, as for my shore lunches tasting better...never thought of that....AWESOME! Thanks Dan, i tried the 15 minute thing in the boat yesterday(my last smoking day)...lol...not too successful. But so far today the urges come about every 15 minutes, they pass. whaT PART OF lIMEY LAND YOU FROM? i HOPE SO! LOL...not much to avoid then. i'll keep that in mind Thanks LFW.....I am looking forward to the freedom as you say.

Hi all, I need help...lol....I bought some nicotine patches last week and finally stuck one on this morning at 9am. I have just finished a nice big walleye lunch and the urge is upon me GREATLY. I have never tried giving up smoking before and have been smoking for 30 years. I gave up Alcohol, exactly 16 years ago today, thought i'd quit smoking on the same day so i could celebrate another addiction's asskicking on the same day as the booze....WISH ME LUCK PLEASE....i'm gonna need it...this is way harder than the other stuff ....waaaaay harder.

Hi all, Got out on Lac Seul yesterday. We were at Williams Bay which i guess is the central part of the Lake. One fish...the first one (a nice 24") came out of 20'FOW just in front of a midwater reef, the rest all came from 14' to 8' FOW. I did head out to where the channel meets the main lake....but there was a noticible drop in water temperature(surface) as soon as you got to water facing the main basin....we had 63 degrees just prior to getting to the main basin right down to 54 degrees in a matter of seconds. There were fish on the screen in the open water (deep too) but nothing biting. So most of our day was spent in one large bay searching the 14' to 8' depths. We caught around 20 fish each....lots of small ones with the best one a respectable 25". Although i've caught more fish before...the amount of slot and over slot fish was better, i think i got around 10 fish in slot and above....probably more than i got all last year!!!! Green/chartreuse the jig colour, minnows were bait. All the big fish were on 4" sucker and dace minnows, Garnet (my fishing buddy for the day) was using the small minnows, he's not used to using anything else and stuck with what he felt comfortable with...but the difference was clear as he only got one slot fish on the smaller baits. I did keep one over slot fish (22") and when cleaning it last night expected to find large bait fish inside given what they were scarfing down from my hook, but there was only fish fly larvae....stuffed to the gills. Another thing i noticed was the areas we found that held fish were being battered by the wind and definitely rocky to mud transitions....whether that be a reef to mud...or where a rocky/boulder shore area turned to sand or mud...even if it was just a small offshore boulder pile. Anyway...here's some pics and vid. BE WARNED....A FEW 'F' BOMBS IN THE LAST FEW SECONDS OF THE VIDEO <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uhNS0W4jA5I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Hi all, Got off work at 6pm yesterday, met mum at the door as she headed out on night shift and Jack and myself sat in the living room looking for stuff to do. The day started off miserable, wind gusts up to 70kmh, wet and cold. But by 6:30pm the sun was starting to poke through and looking at the waves on the lake the wind was dropping fast. I asked Jack if he wanted to go down the lawn and fish...he said "No". I was left dissappointed for about 3 seconds because he then pipes up..." I dont want to fish at Wahgoon lake, (this is how he says Wabigoon Lake) i wanna go to Dore Lake" Ok...so off we went. We went to a lake near Dore lake Called Burr Lake as there is no real shore fishing access on Dore. Jack was having none of it....Burr lake is Dore lake too according to him. All the way there Jack was excited about going to Dore so he could make holes with the ice auger again...lol...he remembered our trip there in February. After explaining it was all water now he became excited about catching "Wiggly Walleyes" Here's a photo and video account of our little adventure yesterday evening. HALFWAY DOWN THE PATH TO THE LAKE I ASKED JACK IF HE WAS OK...HIS RESPONSE........ TURNED OUT TO BE A BEAUTIFUL EVENING (FOR THROWING ROCKS) DID NOT TAKE LONG FOR THE FIRST "WIGGLY WALLEYE" EITHER, JACK HAD NOT SEEN A STRINGER BEFORE AND FOUND IT VERY AMUSING FOR ABOUT 1/2 AN HOUR. THE NEXT 2 HOURS JACK DEMONSTRATED WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHED FISHERMAN HE'S BECOMING HERE'S SOME VIDEO <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nOkcyxP2LMQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I'm not sure whether he actually likes fishing, but he certainly likes being outside....he never wants to leave! In fact i was anticipating a meltdown at 9pm when i suggested we head home, nope, just..."ok Dad". Love the little guy sooooo much its hard to put into words So this morning while i'm typing this at work(slow day) i get a call from mum saying pick up minnows on the way home as jack wants to take mum and dad to "dore lake" again this evening.....PERFECT!

LOL...insane looking fish. Great report Drew.

Crappie, Bass, Walleye and baby pike.
limeyangler replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
Its getting there, i gotta get up to Lac seul soooooooooooon! OOOOps...my bad....i am an Ambassador...just the worst one ever Thanks Bruce...yup...with a small child now...backyard fishing is where its mostly at for me LOL CLEARLY! LOL @ knickers in a knot. The first day was slow....but the second day was frantic as the video suggests. -
Managed to get out for a couple of hours on 2 consecutive days....awesome. First off went out on my home lake and hit up some Crappie and bass. I was gonna try to get some walleye that day (all in the same small lake) but a buddy of mine from town was already on the spot i wanted to try...hammering the walleye btw. I went over to another spot...no walleye. I tried one more spot and got 2 small ones...but filming was difficult given one of our American guests in NWO decided it was perfectly ok to practically fish right on top of me..... TO ALL GUESTS IN NWO.....YOU MIGHT NEED TO DO THAT AT HOME GIVEN THAT MOST LAKES HAVE MORE PRESSURE....BUT UP HERE IF YOU WANNA GET HURT...KEEP DOING THAT! rant done The crappie have not started to spawn yet in this lake but are still up shallow hiding under anything that provides cover given the weeds are not there yet. Pretty incredible to have upto 10 crappie in the 12"-13" range hiding under one small, thin overhanging log. You literally had to get the slip bobber withing 3" of the cover or the fish would not come out of hiding. I dont think the bass have all started to spawn either in this lake, the usual beds are pretty vacant and only a few scattered fish up shallow. I did get another chance to get some walleye on Sunday as my little boy asked to go fishing as soon as i got back off the lake...GOOD BOY...off we went, but alas no fish. I got out on Monday too, I hit up Eagle Lake for walleye. I wanted to go back to an area i was doing well in last fall. i wanted to see how the bite changed with the season. Only difference i could tell was that the fish were smaller than i got in the fall...numbers of fish still good to excellent! I did hook into an OOS muskie too. before anyone feels the need to cathartically express ire at the filming of said creature.... 1) for all i know could have been a big walleye or pike 2) As soon as i realised it was a muskie filming stopped 3) the fish was not even taken out of the water and was released boatside with a quick flick of my pliers as it was hooked in the side of the mouth as you can see in the video The bass and crappie fell to jigs and minnows, both straight jigging/casting and the same jig set at 1' under a slip bobber. The walleye and muskie also fell to a straight jigged chartreuse or white jig. Here's the pics & video from the 2 sessions.( There is a strange clip included in the video of the first crappie i filmed....i got the on off function bassackwards...i.e. thought i turned it on when i'd turned it off and vice versa). KEPT 5 OF AROUND 20 CRAPPIE A NICE BASS FOR TEAM 2 VIDEO for Sunday and Monday <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/H765ki3EGS0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
