  1. Hi all, Got off work at 6pm yesterday, met mum at the door as she headed out on night shift and Jack and myself sat in the living room looking for stuff to do. The day started off miserable, wind gusts up to 70kmh, wet and cold. But by 6:30pm the sun was starting to poke through and looking at the waves on the lake the wind was dropping fast. I asked Jack if he wanted to go down the lawn and fish...he said "No". I was left dissappointed for about 3 seconds because he then pipes up..." I dont want to fish at Wahgoon lake, (this is how he says Wabigoon Lake) i wanna go to Dore Lake" Ok...so off we went. We went to a lake near Dore lake Called Burr Lake as there is no real shore fishing access on Dore. Jack was having none of it....Burr lake is Dore lake too according to him. All the way there Jack was excited about going to Dore so he could make holes with the ice auger again...lol...he remembered our trip there in February. After explaining it was all water now he became excited about catching "Wiggly Walleyes" Here's a photo and video account of our little adventure yesterday evening. HALFWAY DOWN THE PATH TO THE LAKE I ASKED JACK IF HE WAS OK...HIS RESPONSE........ TURNED OUT TO BE A BEAUTIFUL EVENING (FOR THROWING ROCKS) DID NOT TAKE LONG FOR THE FIRST "WIGGLY WALLEYE" EITHER, JACK HAD NOT SEEN A STRINGER BEFORE AND FOUND IT VERY AMUSING FOR ABOUT 1/2 AN HOUR. THE NEXT 2 HOURS JACK DEMONSTRATED WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHED FISHERMAN HE'S BECOMING HERE'S SOME VIDEO <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nOkcyxP2LMQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I'm not sure whether he actually likes fishing, but he certainly likes being outside....he never wants to leave! In fact i was anticipating a meltdown at 9pm when i suggested we head home, nope, just..."ok Dad". Love the little guy sooooo much its hard to put into words So this morning while i'm typing this at work(slow day) i get a call from mum saying pick up minnows on the way home as jack wants to take mum and dad to "dore lake" again this evening.....PERFECT!
  2. LOL...insane looking fish. Great report Drew.
  3. Sounds like great fun. If i can help out shoot me a pm. If ya need to pitch a tent in the Dryden area we have lots of acres right on Wabigoon.
  4. Its getting there, i gotta get up to Lac seul soooooooooooon! OOOOps...my bad....i am an Ambassador...just the worst one ever Thanks Bruce...yup...with a small child now...backyard fishing is where its mostly at for me LOL CLEARLY! LOL @ knickers in a knot. The first day was slow....but the second day was frantic as the video suggests.
  5. Managed to get out for a couple of hours on 2 consecutive days....awesome. First off went out on my home lake and hit up some Crappie and bass. I was gonna try to get some walleye that day (all in the same small lake) but a buddy of mine from town was already on the spot i wanted to try...hammering the walleye btw. I went over to another spot...no walleye. I tried one more spot and got 2 small ones...but filming was difficult given one of our American guests in NWO decided it was perfectly ok to practically fish right on top of me..... TO ALL GUESTS IN NWO.....YOU MIGHT NEED TO DO THAT AT HOME GIVEN THAT MOST LAKES HAVE MORE PRESSURE....BUT UP HERE IF YOU WANNA GET HURT...KEEP DOING THAT! rant done The crappie have not started to spawn yet in this lake but are still up shallow hiding under anything that provides cover given the weeds are not there yet. Pretty incredible to have upto 10 crappie in the 12"-13" range hiding under one small, thin overhanging log. You literally had to get the slip bobber withing 3" of the cover or the fish would not come out of hiding. I dont think the bass have all started to spawn either in this lake, the usual beds are pretty vacant and only a few scattered fish up shallow. I did get another chance to get some walleye on Sunday as my little boy asked to go fishing as soon as i got back off the lake...GOOD BOY...off we went, but alas no fish. I got out on Monday too, I hit up Eagle Lake for walleye. I wanted to go back to an area i was doing well in last fall. i wanted to see how the bite changed with the season. Only difference i could tell was that the fish were smaller than i got in the fall...numbers of fish still good to excellent! I did hook into an OOS muskie too. before anyone feels the need to cathartically express ire at the filming of said creature.... 1) for all i know could have been a big walleye or pike 2) As soon as i realised it was a muskie filming stopped 3) the fish was not even taken out of the water and was released boatside with a quick flick of my pliers as it was hooked in the side of the mouth as you can see in the video The bass and crappie fell to jigs and minnows, both straight jigging/casting and the same jig set at 1' under a slip bobber. The walleye and muskie also fell to a straight jigged chartreuse or white jig. Here's the pics & video from the 2 sessions.( There is a strange clip included in the video of the first crappie i filmed....i got the on off function bassackwards...i.e. thought i turned it on when i'd turned it off and vice versa). KEPT 5 OF AROUND 20 CRAPPIE A NICE BASS FOR TEAM 2 VIDEO for Sunday and Monday <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/H765ki3EGS0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

  7. Hello again, well, most of you know the story about my lost camera that was found and kindly given back to me after 2 weeks on the missing list. The day i lost it was the day we had just recorded an hour in the boat with our son Jack. I can hardly describe how upset i was to return home to realise i'd lost the camera with some really nice pics of our little cruise. They were so special for us because as a record of Jack's progress they were priceless. He talked about going in the "byeboat" all winter, and to see his excitement...and hesitation at finally being in the boat was awesome. last year he was not able to really even stand alone in the boat, this year he was "telling" me to go faster Anyway...yup...more pics of my boy...i love the little dood so much. Here's some of the pics from our first "byeboat" outing this year. WE BROUGHT SOME BREAD TO FEED THE GULLS....JACK DOES AN AWESOME SEAGULL IMPRESSION BTW I REMEMBER EATING MORE THAN I GAVE TO THE BIRDS WHEN I WAS A WEE LAD TOO...LOL AFTER FEEDING THE BIRDS WE SET OFF TO NOWHERE IN PARTICULAR...JACK SEEMED A BIT UNSURE OF THE WHOLE "BYEBOAT" EXPERIENCE BUT HE STARTED TO RELAX SOON ENOUGH CONFIDENCE GROWING, HE WANTED HIS INDEPENDENCE HE WAS ALL SMILES WHEN WE TOOK HIM TO SEE THE FLOAT PLANES EVEN GOT TO SEE ONE COME IN AND LAND IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE IT WAS GETTING LATE SO WE CAME ASHORE. LOTS OF 'STUFF" TO SEE AND DO STILL AND JUST BEFORE WE LEFT..A FRIENDLY LAB CAME TO PLAY TOO Hope you enjoyed the pics...we took some great videos of the day too. So glad we got the camera back....would have been such a shame to have lost those pictures! Thanks for indulging me in my proud dadhood thing again...it wont be the last time...lol.
  8. SHOOPERDOOPER report! Good to see you got out, holy man, sleeping in the jeep...thats dedication for ya! Pizza sounds awful BTW. I literally laughed out loud at your restraint from slapping him...lol...your a better man than me! Great read JB, great pics, and good to see you got out. I like your fishfinder set up
  9. Thanks guys, Hey Joey, we are keeping both cameras its another older one that does not do as good videos that we are passing on. And yes...now my wife says we'll always have a camera even when (lol...not if) i break or lose another one. Hey Brian, thats exactly it! Although the camera was not cheap...both my wife and me were more upset about the pictures on it. We had downloaded and stored all of them except the ones we had just taken of Jack's first boat ride of this year, i left the camera on the tonneau cover of the truck as i trailered the boat from that trip and drove off. I'll post the pics and vids of that trip today when i get the camera back...i think there were some really good shots on there.
  10. Hi all. About 2 weeks ago i lost my camera This morning I get a call from Fed x...our new camera has arrived. 5 minutes later my wife calls from work to say a work colleague has just told her that a friend of hers has our camera...she found it in the middle of the road 2 weeks ago....showed it to her and she recognised the pictures of our son on it. Turns out it was advertised for the last 2 weeks on a local news forum's lost and found, but we had not seen it. So....in the space of 5 minutes i have 2 camera's! We are giving our cheaper camera to the lady who found it as she had lost a camera and needs one...despite this she still did everything she could to get our camera back to us! There is hope for the human race after all
  11. Lol....makes me want to go more too!
  12. i say keep it simple....3/8 oz Knuckle ball jig with a big (3"-4") sucker minnow.....the minnow and jig shape keep it off bottom/snag free. 30' and you should just get to put 'em back....40' and their air bladders will be hanging out thier*&^%^%
  13. Hi all, Got out yesterday for a good session yesterday, started just before noon and headed back at 6:30pm so i could take the boy for a short boat ride before supper. Day started miserably weather wise....windy...grey and rainy/drizzle. But by 3pm the sun was out..still breezy but nice. I wanted to see if the crappie had moved in shallow and was casting close to shore....no luck. But after about 15 or so small pike....i found a pocket of keeper walleye...awesome....SUPPER SORTED. The walleye bite died off and i headed along the NW shore in search of crappie. I found them in the last bay i tried....not hundreds as can be the case...but they are starting to show up....nice size too...averaging 12". Beetlespin and chartreuse jig found them......slip bobber went on right after i confirmed they were there. They were sitting in 4' FOW about 15 feet out from shore...any further or closer and you would not get a bite. Went out for a short boat ride with the boy and missus when i got back then casted from shore to get one more walleye as i'd only kept 3. Here's the video and a picture of a crappie. GOOD FUN AFTERNOON ON WABIGOON. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/E493zOCsG5Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  14. Keep it and enjoy it Mike. I get walleye with loads of tape worm in. Like someone else said its not in the meat...they live in the intestinal tract/stomach. Alls i would advise is is to wash your hands thoroughly after cleaning fish, because unless its sushi you're making.....thats about the only way they will get you. Bon Appetite!
  15. Hey Sled..really sorry to hear that. try and get out soon, by the sounds of it your Pa would want you to. Once again...sorry about your loss.
