Nick, we catch allot of perch with Yellow Grub on Nipissing. Pick them out with the tip of your fillet knife. Cooked they are no risk and have no flavour. I'm sure I have ate a 100 or so and besides the blurred vision and morning vommiting I'm fine. Oh wait.....that's when I'm drinking too much lol. Yellow grub Your description suggests you observed encysted metacercariae larval stage of the yellow grub (Clinostomum) parasite. The encysted, yellow to yellowish white worm can be up to 1/4 inch in length. It can be found in virtually all species of North American freshwater fish. The yellow grub is a digenetic trematode. These types of parasites require several hosts to complete their life cycles. In the case of the yellow grub, the adult parasite is found in the throats of fish eating birds, such as herons. During the feeding process, eggs produced by the adults are washed out of the bird's mouth and into the water. There they hatch, yielding a free swimming larval stage (miracidia) that will die within several hours if it does not find and infect a snail of the genus Helisoma. After further development within the snail, a free swimming cercaria leaves the snail and seeks a fish host. The cercariae burrow through the skin of the fish and encyst, where they develop into the metacercariae. These yellow grubs may live several years in the fish. If the fish is eaten by the bird host the larval metacercariae will develop into adult parasites, completing the life cycle. Infestations by a few individuals likely cause little harm to fish, however, under certain circumstances, heavy infestations can kill fish. Yellow grubs are described as unsightly by fishermen. A related species occurring in Asia has been found to infect the upper respiratory tract of humans. Thorough cooking kills the North American yellow grub and the parasite does not alter the flavor or the infected fish; however, fish with heavy infestations are typically not eaten by anglers. Infestation is somewhat greater for fish caught in shallow water where snails and fish eating birds are most prevalent. Fish caught from deep water typically exhibit less infestation. Like many biological phenomenon, prevalence of the grub may be greater in some years and less in others for a variety of reasons including an abundance of intermediate host mollusks and birds.

If you put your smoke down it would be easier to smile . Nice walleye. Lamprey are a nucience but I don't think the kill the fish?

I have one on my 17' Starcraft and although I have set it up a few times, I've never used it when fishing.

Great report Pick. My buddies were slaying the walleye in the upper French this week. 15 keepers in the 2 outings. (2 guys). Most keepers were just below the 40cm slot restriction. They were in just a bit fatrher then Canoe Pass.

Welcome aboard. Seems like you'll fit right in here. Best fishing site on the net IMO.

I am going to mount my swivel base for my manual Scotty downrigger on to my 17' Starcraft Aluminum. I only plan on mounting one down rigger because I will likely never use it (but it was free so I might as well keep it). My question is......should it be mounted on the same side as my consul or the opposite side? I see many boats with them in the back corners and recently saw two boats with them straight away out the back. It seems like they were installed in the centre so the cover could still be put on the boat without removing the riggers. As a side note I also upgraded my MotorGuide bow mount trolling motor from a cable steer 36# to a wireless 55# model. I will be spending some time in the boat this week getting it even more set up.

Excellent report as always Ben. Also a great Walleye article in that magazine I'm not supposed to mention on here.

Cool I'm free every night after 8pm. Makes it tough for boat fishing but I'm "in" for shore fishing.

Priceless singing at the end Simon. It amazes me how much his talking is coming along. My 2 year old speaks 1/2 as much but in both french and english.

Yep, we finally wooed him over to the "good side" . I seriously would like to go catting with you some night. Doesn't have to be to the secret spot just want to give it a go?

Stay off my mid-water humps. Good going Rob, The bite is just starting now. Just waiting for the wind to stop howling....been 24 hrs. now.

Worst vehicle my family evere owned was a 1992 Cherolet Lemona (aka Lumina). It was a peice of crap. Everything from the factory paint fading to a dull yellow (was white of the lot) to multiple drive train issues, engine issues and oh ya the AC was crap. I love my Ford. Yes it has flaws but the dealership is good and fixes it as needed.

From wikipedia......A certified check or certified cheque is a form of check for which the bank verifies that sufficient funds exist in the account to cover the check, and so certifies, at the time the check is written. Those funds are then set aside in the bank's internal account until the check is cashed or returned by the payee. Thus, a certified check cannot "bounce", and, in this manner, its liquidity is similar to cash, absent failure of the bank.

Looks like it is part of the flat fish series or the "canadian wiggler" series. I have seen similar lures but always in the silver or green finish.

I think T.J. knows the owners?

That's great. I took my oldest boy down to the peir in North Bay for perch and sunfish but not even a nibble. Can catch 50 an hour there when the water warms up. The small peices of worms helps the dozen or so go a long way. Great pictures and a day of fun they will never forget.

Yep BIG ones.

I saw this link on another site and thought some may be interested. I've seen a few of the t-shirts with these prints but still thought some would be interested. I hope this is not considered spam. I have no affiliation with the company. Rapala wallpaper

I see your partner in the bow seat is not much for conversation. I've been fishing with a few of it's relatives to keep the paddle boat ballanced. At least you knew you wouldn't be out-fished.

Good job Ron. The North Bay marina also has no fishing by-law. There are many anglers who fish from the peir into the marina without ever getting into trouble. I beleive North Bay is just stopping people from trolling and casting inside the marina. My question is.....what about ice-fishing? It seems like you can't ice fish in North Bay marina...can you drill a hole and ice fish in the coburg marina during the winter?

The cheap ones from the Dollar Store are sold under the name MAKO. I picked up a few for my son's tackle box and Rod Caster can attest that I tried 2 of them too. for pike. One had a great wobble action (fixed weight) and the other was a floating rattling one theat actually rolled over on itself on fast retrieve. I only had it on for 2 casts and that was long enough to see that it sucked. Now...I did find some Panther Martin Vivif swim baits at the dollar store. They look great and retail for around $4 a pack. I think these sold for $1.50 for a package of 2.

May 24 long weekend report..Walleye non stop!!
Nipfisher replied to tb4me's topic in General Discussion
I was in Campbellford on Wed and Thurs. Never been in that area before. I was surprised not to see anyone fishing. -
Great video. How long did you stay for?

Great read. Temagami is only 45 minutes away from me and I hardly ever fish it. I guess that is because Nipissing is only 2 minutes away? Never fished Net lake but I have seen plenty of boats.
