  1. You live in the bush, hence lot's of wood. You will freeze your nuts off using convection heaters. And what if you run into a situation where you loose your power for a day or two? No wood stove and your house freezes up and your plumbing bursts. Sure would be nice to have a wood stove. Suck it up and get er fixed. Better to be safe then sorry. Your girlfriend will think your so smart by keeping the stove for her, cause we all know how the woman love to keep warm.
  2. Bass boats are not a good option for towing sports. They are a bit to fast in my opinion. I know my boat starts to fall off plane at about the 35 mph range. So that about as slow as I can go with my boat set up. Props for most bass boats are set up for max top end speed and by doing this you comprimise your hole shot to a degree. This is just compounded when your trying to get out of the hole while pulling a tuber or skier. Changing your prop is usually a must. I have done it a few times in the last 20 yrs but it is difficult to say the least. There will always be the guy that wants to get towed on a tube and wants to go 60 or more mph just for the rush factor. Stay away from that guy, don't do it. I had a guy last year ask me to take him behind my bass boat so he could barefoot ski. He said 60 would be about a good speed, I just looked at him as if he had two heads and firmly said NO.
  3. I switched over a few Husky Jerks with them about a month ago. Saw them in Wally world and had to give them a try. The selection of sizes wasn't that good. I think i'm still hitting 100% with the change over on the smallies.
  4. Just because it's not made of Goretex doesn't mean its garbage. I have a rubber rainsuit I bought from L.L.Bean at least 10 yrs ago for 40.00. The arse finally blew out of the pants this year so I'm gonna get another one. It kept me dry, spring, summer, and fall. And how often do you really wear it, compared to how many times you go out. I agree they don't breathe as good as Goretex but the jacket is vented in the back and armpits and has a built in liner of some kind of perforated material to keep the rubber off of you. Also I won't cry if I tear my cheapo suit, but not so if it was my 300.00 Goretex suit. So the question is How much do ya want to spend? And my last suit was made in the U.S.A. and not over priced crap from China. I also have Goretex gear that was made in Pembroke Ontario and it is awesome gear. But this small company closed it's doors for good a few years ago.
  5. Theres a huge marsh I fish for largies in my neck of the woods with lots of largies 5lbs plus and the bullfrogs are veery territorial and agressive. They will chase anything that comes near them. Maybe thats why the largies are so big.
  6. I ran into this situation a few weeks ago during a bass tourney. We were fishing a weed covered drop off on a point and the conditions were calm no breeze bright sun. There was huge schools of baitfish swimming in front of the boat at all times. Tubes were working but only hooking up every 20 minutes or so. When we did catch one on a tube there would be at least 5 or 6 nice bass coming to the boat with the one that was hooked then they would vanish and things would slow down for another 1/2 hour. I picked up my ultra lite rod and put on a H6 I believe it was. Natural colour about 1 1/2 inches long. First cast bam 4 lber in the boat. They were all over that tiny bait, caught a fish every 3 or 4 casts and all were 3 lbers and up. The solution was simple :match the hatch: oh yeah they were all smallies.
  7. I have owned my own business for the last 17 years. I sell art and do custom picture framing but am tired of retail and am getting into real estate. I write my final exam this saturday in Ottawa. Making a career change at 48 yrs old is a bit nerve racking but I am really looking forward to it and am really excited about it. Now if I could figure how to get a full nights sleep without waking up thinking about condo's and recreation properties I would be fine.
  8. Muskymatt I don't need my ego stroked and I have been in retail a long time and know that is not how you run a business. Pm me the manager's e-mail because I would really like to chat with him. I just replied to a post a few weeks ago about the Ottawa store saying how good it was and all the good things that go with it. I went there because it was the first day of their sale and wanted to buy some gear. Also I never said the staff wasn't good people, but I got the impression they didn't give a damn about a customer. I guess the old saying is true "when the cat's away the mice will play"
  9. Paddletales is a wicked store for the bass fisherman. I have been in there several times and that place is always packed with the latest gear and if Ed doesn't have it you probably don't need it.
  10. I went to Lebarons in Ottawa on thursday after class to drop a few hundred bucks on tackle. I walked in and there was not to many customers, maybe 5 in the fishing section. It was the first day of there no tax sale. The shelves from my first impression looked half empty. It seemed everything I was looking for was out of stock. The line selection was the pits and so was the plastics. I wanted to buy a new planer board, out of stock. Okay I will try the glasses, had maybe a dozen pairs and none interested me. There was about ten staff behind the counter all chewing the rag with each other and one guy on the floor stocking shelves. So I asked all of them where is there stock and a few of them started giggling, and one said we can't keep up. So I suggested maybe if you guys did some work around here there might be stock on the shelves for customers to purchase. I told them I was from out of town and was waiting for their sale to start and had a few hundred bucks to drop on some gear. One of the staff says to me " really, well it's a hit and miss deal around here" I was starting to feel my blood start to boil and asked to speak to the manager. He's not here. I have been in retail for twenty years and that was probably the saddest excuse for a retail store I have ever seen. Absolutely discusting. Needless to say not one of the staff asked me if I needed any assistance when I was wondering around looking for what I needed. All I purchased was a spool of braided line that I have never used before and a pack of Gammy 5/0 hooks. Total cost $20.00. Probably will be a cold day in hell before I go back in there, I am still pissed about the whole experience. I am going to fire off an e-mail to head office and tell them of my wonderful experience at their Ottawa location, and how useless their staff is. There my rant is over, but I am still steaming.
  11. I got checked by the OPP last week on the river. They were very courteous and just wanted to make sure my paperwork was in order and that we had lifejackets that FIT. I had my 11 yr old nephew with me. I didn't have my vessell registration with me and played dumb and handed him my trailer registration. He explained what I needed and where to get it if I didn't have it. While the cop doing the talking was explaining things one of the others was writing like crazy. I asked him what he was writing and he said just general information. I was going to ask why there was for full time cops on board but thought I better not press my luck. We were drifting towards a submerged rock pile that I was about to fish when they rolled in and I told them and they were not aware of it and thanked me for telling them and they backed out and were gone. They didn't even mention the fine for not having my vessell registration but I have it in my boat now.
  12. There is no reason to use a floro leader when fishing largies in the slop. They are not line shy and you are just looking for trouble with break-offs etc when setting the hook and horsing them out. I just tie direct to 30 or 50 lb braid and never have to worry about the issues you are having. A heavy action 7 ft rod combined with your drag locked down and your good to go. I like the way the braid cuts the pads when fighting a fish also. And if I have to use floro for whatever reason as a leader I always use a small swivel to connect the two lines.
  13. Who cares how they look, just saying. How they work and perform is what matters.
  14. I agree with Henry. Get a vessel policy and keep it seperate from your home and auto. It cost a little more but when you have to make a claim it is settled real quick and won't effect your rates with you auto and home. I know this from experience. My bassboat was 700 per year for 30,000 of value with a 500 deductable. My insurance co paid the full pop and was settled in 4 days.
  15. Thank god you had a gas pedal J.P. The same thing happened on White lake about 5 years ago to a couple of brothers during a bass tourney. They didn't have a gas pedal and were ejected only to have the boat do circles around them at w.o.t. Both were killed from the boat running over them when they were trying to swim away. A gas pedal is the most important safety feature in any high performance boat and every bassboat should have one. This also happened to a buddy a few years ago during a tourney, he is like 6'4 240 and said he felt like a bag of groceries flying out of the boat he was driving. He tore the shifter off his boat and was badly bruised from armpit to arse on the side that went over the shifter. Glad your both okay.
  16. Thanks for that. Thats almost spooky. haha. I'm heading out tomorrow bassin and now I am totally stoked.
  17. Way to go Jen, thats awesome. Your my kinda gal
  18. Hi Ryan, thats a beautiful home you have there. Ya theres pro's and con's living in the country. Especially with a young family, I have lived in both the country and town and would love to move back to the country. I like my space and you just don't get it in town. Some day I want to have a nice little hobby farm with good outbuildings to store all my toys in. I'm fortunate to have good neighbours all around me, but if you move to town and have a dick for a neighbour, you will be a very unhappy camper in no time. All the best and hope everything works out for you. It's a very tough decision to make.
  19. Nice fish. Wading for big Northerns, now that is cool.
  20. I like Mercer, and I like Cronzy too. But to be honest I don't think I could fish with either of them, cause they never shut up.
  21. I go to the Nepean store whenever I am in the city and have had no problems with the staff. Usually someone approaches me and asks if I need help with anything. I usually talk to the dudes in the fishing department and can tell in two minutes if the sales guy knows much about fishing. I wonder around and find what I need and I'm gone. I don't need a red carpet rolled out for me just because I enter a fishing store. Theres lots of people who just love to witch, and you can never make them happy no matter what you do. I say this from experience, 20 years in retail
  22. I would change both gaskets on the drain plug and the vent plug, install new oil and see if that works. If not, bring it in to a mechanic and have it inspected.
  23. I have run into to this problem a few times over the years and both times I changed the fuel line connector(where the fuel line connects to the motor) and problem solved. Its a cheap part but overlooked often.
  24. Sounds like tough fishing. Did you concentrate at all on 0 to 2 ft depths. I have been in your situation before and would start fishing 0 to 2 feet and be totally amazed that hawgs would be in 8 inches of water. I won a 2 day tourney once by doing that, about 3 or 4 teams were fishing the same patterns but we were the only ones fishing shore to 2 ft and we were hammering them while the other teams were just getting a few because they were fishing deeper. It gets that percise.
  25. Leave the poor barber alone man. If your too cheap to drop 14 bucks on a haircut, get the wife to cut it for you. 14.00 is reasonable, and he has to eat too. The only difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is a week.
