  1. As some of you know, I was in the retail industry for over 20 years. Last year my job was eliminated and I decided to take some time off to spend time with my daughter and work on projects around the house. Well...the time has come for me to get back to work! I start my new job in the IT industry tomorrow. I no longer have to drive to downtown Toronto as I did before. The offices are at Steeles and the 404. My question is this. I live in Whitby and am wondering if anyone else in this area commutes to Steeles and the 404 area daily? Is it fastest to still take the 401 to the 404 and head north? I'm not interested in taking the 407....so what about going north and taking 7 across? Or maybe take Taunton (which turns into Steeles) and head that way? Any advice would be great.
  2. Post your trip reports right away online!!! Hahahaha Would be great to hit a river with you again! Fishing the east tribs is boring. Lol
  3. Mike Congrats!! I'll be buying your premier edition for sure. Can I get it autographed?? Lol I'm ok if you post reports after they are in the magazine. For me a delay of months is ok for that. I understand wanting to keep the "thunder" for your paid subscribers. Reports on here can be less detailed and geared more towards the fish porn. I'm honoured to have fished with, and to have gone on a northern Ontario canoe adventure with you. I think it's awesome you are making a living following your dream! Keep it coming!!
  4. I would just ask why the secrecy and let them answer. Don't react yet....find out what the story is then decide what to do...
  5. I've played guitar for over 30 years now. I have two acoustics at the moment....a cheap $300 Yamaha I bought about 25 years ago and a Fender semi acoustic. The Yamaha has survived university years, where I found it once filled with beer...and then someone knocked it and it has a hole in the back. I still play it today and love it! When I record, I use my fender semi....has very rich tones and the action is incredible.
  6. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has decided that effective January 1st, 2016, no Walleye fishing on Lake Scugog will be allowed until further notice. The seasons for other fish species are not affected by this decision and Lake Scugog will remain open to recreational angling under current regulations. Full article here http://www.ofah.org/issues/lake-scugog-walleye-closure/ I personally don't target walleye on Scugog, but this will affect many. What are your thoughts?
  7. 1400 square foot two story house here. Gas furnace, electric stove and electric clothes dryer. Average about $110 a month in the winter.
  8. Just rain here in Whitby. And only between 10pm and midnight. Most of it missed here completely.
  9. I was walking along my local creek looking for steelhead this morning. Was approaching one of my spots and I see movement. I thought someone was already fishing there so I decided to take a look and see if they were catching anything. I turn the corner and out walks this from the brush!! Scared the crap out of me, but he just stood there and looked at me. He stood still for so long I had time to get my camera out and take his picture. Then he slowly sauntered back into the brush. Was pretty cool!!
  10. I've had that exact call. I played them for 15 minutes... "Let me turn my computer on...hold on" "Ok it's booting up" "Hold on....it stopped....have to start again" "Oh wait, have to recycle my modem...please hold" Then after 15 minutes I say "that's funny...my Mac doesn't run Windows".
  11. Not anymore. lol
  12. So sorry to hear his news Mo. My thoughts are with you.
  13. Hey Fishnsled. Remember this bozo? He was in our spot and we had to crowd him out!! The nerve!! Lol
  14. Just pictures of the fish? Not the person who caught it and the fish together?
  15. I love vintage pics too!! Some great photos there jimmer! This is my dad in the early 60's on Lake Simcoe...when there was a walleye population there! My uncle river fishing Love the old reels!
  16. Brian....I may just do that. Need to spoil it the other way I think as i am right hand retrieve. Now....how the heck do you cast the thing?? Lol
  17. Thanks guys!! Brian....the centerpin you sold me is still in the box. Lol
  18. I wasn't planning on going out this morning with the forecast saying rain and wind all day, but when I got up I checked the forecast again. It said high winds later in the day and the showers that were happening would end around 10. So I headed out for 10, and was pleasantly surprised to see the waters up a bit, with about two feet of visibility. I was rewarded today!! First I set the hook and felt a small fish on. It fought like a little champ and I was surprised to see this gorgeous brown!! Love the colours and markings on this one! Let that little guy go and began drifting a nice seam along a drop off. Float goes down again and I hook into this nice steelie! Back to the creek it went to get bigger! The winds began to pick up so I packed it in and headed home for lunch.
  19. Gbay has it right. They grow up far too quickly. Enjoy every moment!!
  20. Had the same issue with my daughter, although not quite as often as you per night. On a regular visit to the family doctor she said to start feeding cereal just before bed. She said baby was waking up hungry...and cereal keeps the belly full much longer than breastmilk or formula. It worked like a charm. Six hours of sleep almost instantly!! She was 8 months old as well....so chances are your son will tolerate it just fine.
  21. Wow I'm lost for words. Just wow.
  22. I'll be hitting the creeks tomorrow morning. Hopefully I get one or two...
  23. Nice fish Brian! Creeks here were chocolate milk today. Tomorrow will be prime but I'm not joining the rest of the crowds there on a weekend!
  24. I always listen to their sell job and even ask questions to seem interested. Then I say "I'm not interested, but I am selling a car." I then don't let them interrupt "it's a 2013 Honda Civic. Has low miles, air conditioning, power windows and locks. It also comes with a set of winter tires and rims. Do you want to buy a car?" Their response is "ummmm. I'm calling you to see if you wanted your ducts cleaned" I said "I know, and I thank you for that but I already said no. ...but as long as I have you on the line....if you don't want a car, how about a fridge? It's 18 cubic feet, side by side model with water fountain and ice maker. It's also energy star rated" I then usually hear the "click"
