  1. LOL Urbanangler....I know the feeling. Most nights when bly and I head out for walleye, we are skunked. It's quite frustrating!!! After we each got on in mid October last year, we went out probably 4 to 5 nights a week...and went 5 weeks without so much as a nibble. Then it took off...catching one after the other....Dont worry, your time is coming...and my prediction is some monster pike is in your future!
  2. Great intro fathero 3! Getting kids into fishing is very rewarding....for both yourself and your kids! I have a 5 and 15 year old, and we love to get out there....even if it's just for panfish. It's all about the experiences and memories. Looking foward to your reports...I'm sure you'll fit right in!
  3. Wow...this subject is always a bit touchy. My reports have lots of pictures in them...I try to make my reports stories...and not just "here my pics". Snog does a great job at this as well...and in a lot of cases, his story is more interesting than the pic!! His pic only helps tell the story...dont care if they are blurred...it still added to the story. Bly and I have a few secret spots, but we are fortunate that those spots produce only at night...so there is no background anyways. I am very conscious about what's in the background in pics....it is possible to take them where it's still nice and scenic, avoiding the blurred out photoshopping. If I post a pic that even remotely is questionable, I always say "PM me if you have any issues about these pics". I have never received a PM wanting me to take down a pic. I think both sides have valid points....if someone posts something questionable, perhaps just send a friendly PM asking them to edit the pic....I'd venture to say that 99% of them will thank you for pointing it out to them....as most are newer to the board and just dont know.
  4. Badger and Jakle....welcome! I, like many others, perused at least a few boards before landing on this one. This one by far has the greatest members....not all posts are about fishing, but (and I may take flack for this), life is not ONLY about fishing...LOL. When members are in need...others jump in to help out in any way they can...that's why this isn't just a messageboard....it's truly a community. Welcome to the community...and with eyes over 13 lbs, I cant wait for more of your reports!!!! haha.
  5. Bly and I talked about this and initially we thought to restrict access...with a minimum post count. The more I thought about it...and after reading many of the posts on this thread, I think I have to reconsider. I'm thinking back to September of last year....about 3 weeks before we registered for the board. We had just started fishing again after a 20 year break. We were info hungry...not for locations, but for tips. We LOVED reading the reports and seeing the fish pics. Lurking gave me an idea of what kind of online community this really was....if pics were blocked, I would have been turned off this site altogether. I have met and fished with a few fellow OFNers and established many online friends on this site. I think changing the pics would change the "home" feeling....and we'd ultimately lose a few potential members who could really add a lot to this community. Just my opinion.
  6. YAY!!! Congrats!! Glad to hear that things worked out well. Looking forward to reading an update from you....weight, name, and of course...PICTURES!!! LOL. Very happy for your entire family.
  7. OH great....I get insanly jealous reading your reports and seeing your pictures. Now I get to see full motion video and audio...great....LOL. Seriously though, good luck up there...I'm really looking forward to seeing your adventures!
  8. Well, I had the pleasure of fishing for Steelies with CANADIAN COPPER today. We had planned this over a week ago...and were hoping for some rain and some waters that were not ultra clear....but this was not to be! I talked to him yesterday and he said I had to come and pick him up at 4:00. I said...pardon...4:00am?? LOL. This guy doesn't fool around!! Well, I picked him up early...at about 3:45am, and the first order of business was coffee from Tim Hortons!!! We arrived at our spot in complete darkness...at 4:30. It was a crisp and cool morning...about 10C, but with the promise of warmer temps later! I was the first to pull a fish out...a small bow...a trend for my day apparently....LOL. I pulled two of these little guys out.... CC then saw his float go down and he said his signature "There we go...got one on!". CC, then brought this fighter in...had beautiful colours!!! The picture doesn't really do it justice however.... The spot we were at held TONS of fish...we just couldn't get them to bite. We threw roe, jigs and flies of every colour, pinkies, nymphs....even live wax worms...but the bite was lacking! We then moved on to a different spot. After drifting for a while, my float went down and I had a nice one on, but lost it about 10 feet away from me. CC then landed one, but I didn't hear him when he called me to get the camera! While we were out, CC got the call he dreaded and everyone else was praying for. He goes back to work!!! YAY!!! That means that the rest of us have a chance at catching a few more before they head back to the lake. All his catching has been making them shy to hit bait. Sure...some blame it on low and ultra clear water...lack of rain etc....but the more I thought about it, it had to be him. LOL Anyhow, I dropped him off at home at around 3pm and I went to a local trib since I didn't have to be home right away. I met up with bly there and although we saw a few big steelies, we couldn't entice them to bite. We did however, catch a few of these little browns... Thanks CC, for taking me out to some of your favourite spots. You've really helped bly and I get into the sport of Steelheading. We're not great at it yet, but we are quick learners...we've had a blast out there. You can bet we'll be hitting the tribs again this fall...with more luck than last year! Once your work season is over, I look forward to once again hitting the tribs with you.
  9. We'll be thinking of the two of you! ccmt and bly
  10. You may want to post an introduction first...let people know a bit about you first. You'll generally get more responses to questions asked. I dont know anything about trout north of Algonquin Park, but there was a thread here recently about black flies being really bad in the Kawarthas this past weekend. Checking The Weather Network site, for North Bay, they are saying Blackflies are in the "High" index right now.... Check the link here.... http://theweathernetwork.com/features/bugs...es/CAON0484.htm
  11. Wow...nice work! I cant wait to get out and catch some more walleye...hopefully they'll be in some of my hotter shore spots soon. Great pics...and nice sized ones too!
  12. Rob....classic story. I was fishing a local trib the other week....no bites at all. I was convinced there were no fish in the creek. Suddenly a dog splashes into the water about 100 ft away....next thing I see is about 20 fish dart through the pool I'm fishing....LOL. At least I knew there were fish in there...I just couldn't catch any of them.
  13. I still remember the days sitting with my dad on the dock up at the cottage. There was no better feeling than to catch small panfish...and have his company at the same time. I'm trying to give my kids the same kind of memories...the kind you cant help but smile at when you think back. Thanks to everyone else who has posted on this thread too! She had a blast out there and already wants to know when she can go again. Here's a pic of my dad with me and my two brothers....I'm the one on the far right...LOL.
  14. Hey...great looking Pike there!!!! Good to see some of those toothy critters being landed. I'll have to try for them soon. BTW...the skyline pic looks like a postcard...great pic!
  15. Sounded like great action out there! You went out with low expectations and saw LOTS of fish. Glad to hear you like your new Abu....going fishing is never a waste of time in my opinion!
  16. OUCH!!! Your topic title mentions Lesson Learned. I guess we all know what the lesson is... NEVER FISH WITH PATRICKG!!!! Of course I'm only joking...I'd like to meet up with both of you one day. Hope it heals up fast!! Always enjoy your reports...hopefully next time if wont end with "On the way to the hospital...."
  17. We have that kind Joey....went to Can Tire and picked up this long thin plastic thing (it's maybe 18 inches long)...had barbs on it. We put it down the drain and pulled....out came a bunch of really gross hair and slime....after that it worked fine.
  18. Wow...your reports always blow me away! The stories behind them....the awesome pics....and fish to boot!
  19. Great job out there! I liked how tactics were changed when the perch and cats were off. Shows how versatile you were out there. Gotta love getting into those Carp...they are great fighters and start the adrenaline flowing that for sure! Awesome pics and report!!
  20. Great report Mike! It's great seeing soft water reports again....and it was made even better by OFNers getting together to share in the experience. Nice looking fish there!!! Looked like a great time. Thanks for the pics!
  21. Put me down for one please! I used to buy insect repellents for Canadian Tire. The only thing that has ever been proven to work is deet. The different percentages of deet has to do with how long it takes to evaporate. So...a 40% deet product will evaporate faster than a 80% deet product. I had lots of people trying to sell me deet alternative stuff, but they simply dont work. Everything from citronella (which in Canada you cant call an insect repellent because there has been no testing that shows it really works), sonic products that emit a high frequency that is supposed to mimic a dragon fly (big mosquito predator), to oil alternatives such as geranium oil....and sorry...skin-so-soft doesn't work either on everyone. Unless you are using something to kill them...like d-trans allethrin (the active in those mosquito coils....or simliar chemical) or some insect fogging device, they'll be out to get you unless you wear deet or a bug jacket.
  22. Wow....Awesome report. Gotta love multi species when out on the water. Looked like a great time out there...good on all of you for getting together! Thanks for the pics and story...making me jealous!!! haha.
  23. LOL...we find time with the kids by taking them fishing. We're pretty lucky that both our daughter's love to fish...so a weekend at the lake is always popular around our house. I'm hoping she remembers these days like your daughter does....and the fond memories I have sitting on a dock with my dad all those years ago.
  24. Very nice looking fish! Awesome colours.....congrats on your first of the season
  25. Wow...that long ago? Man...seems like yesterday when Daria and I were just lowly analysts at the big home office....LOL.
