  1. Hey Doc, Keep posting your reports and that goes for the rest of the members. If you want to blur backgrounds and what not go for it, I know how it is down here in southern ontario but I love to see peoples reports and not because I want to steal there spots. Its just great way to take a break at work, cheer yourself up when life doesn't allow you the time to get out fishing. I am fairly new to the board, don't post much but do try to post when I can add value and have learned a lot from what others have posted. If we start segregating the members based on post numbers I think we let the bad lurkers win. I'm sure some are just lurkers because they lack confidence to post. I know I lurked for almost a year before joining and I guess it was a strange confidence thing for me which was quickly left after I made my first couple posts.
  2. Unfortunately with the arrival of our first little one and other responsibilities steelheading has taken back seat this year. Oh well there is always next year. But i hear you, I can't stand the crowds of opener. I plan to break out my fly rod and see if I can get some residents browns, brooks, etc this year. Last year at about 1 in the morning on opener I caught a beautiful resident brown and found it more rewarding than a dropback steelhead.
  3. For spinning rods to me if you have a set budget spend more on the reel than the rod. I love my Shimano Stradic Spinning reels I have 2000 and 4000 series reels, they work fantastic and I beat the hell out of them. I should probably take better care of them but man they have been through alot and never seem to let me down. As for rods, I have never spent more than $150 on one so I can't comment on how good a nice St.Croix or G.Loomis is but I have done just fine with Shimano, Berkley, and the like under at $100. Based on what you said it sounds like you were happy with your previous set up, if I were you I would just go get it again.
  4. Yes of course you meant the Spey Rod. Oh man too funny. On a serious note sorry for your loss.
  5. She not bad but I find her annoying sometimes on her show...Give me April Vokey from Fly Max Seriously though I probably won't attend this year and mainly I find parking to be an issue.
  6. Love Kijiji. I have been selling my old video games lately on there. I must be maturing! It makes the wife happy, of course any money I get goes directly to fishing stuff.
  7. I forgot that birds love led shot...lol...just kidding and seriously thanks for the responses back. If anyone in tne guelph area wants to pick up lead. Shoot me a PM in the next week or so. I guess otherwise I will take them to hazardous waste depot. I'll try my local tackle shop for the line as well.
  8. Hi All, I have be doing a little spring cleaning and have some really old lead sinkers I want to get rid of but was not sure what the best way is? Can I put them in the garbage? Should I bring them my hazardous waste centre? Also I have old fishing line does anyone know if I can bring it to my recycling centre? Thanks for any info.
  9. A classic CBC interview... http://podcast.cbc.ca/mp3/listenerschoice_20091120_23368.mp3 Watch out for them beavers...
  10. This is just plain scary and so short sighted. This has nothing to do with being "green" this just plain stupid recreational fishing has nothing to do with the commercial fishing industry. I agree that we need to make commercial fishing sustainable but again what does this have to do with Anglers? If this happens what's next? The world would be a better place if more people grabbed a rod and went fishing then we wouldn't have these synthetic hippies trying to save the world in such asinine ways.
  11. I am a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) but I will stress I am not Personal Tax Accountant. I mostly deal in the business world of accounting and not tax that said I have a pretty good background in tax as part of my education. I agree you appear to have a fairly straight forward return typical of most family with kids in college/university. Depending on how comfortable you are with taxes and the tax software you can easily do all 3 returns yourself but if you are at all uncomfortable I would suggest hiring a professional tax accountant to do it for you. Please don't take it to H&R block or any other quickie place that springs up this time of year. Look for designated accountant perhaps one with a strong history in your community.
  12. Hahaha, thanks its our first.

The store in guelph didn't have a tonne of stuff but I managed to get some rapalas and wally divers, etc for 30-50% so I am happy. Spent 40 bucks instead of close to 80. That said no ice fishing stuff but they still had good stock on a lot of it. Hopefully it goes on sale soon.
  14. Oh thanks for the advice. I maybe attending but not sure my wife is due on the 17th. So it will all depend when this baby decides to arrive
  15. Sweet, Thanks
  16. My Guess would be yes based on the weather this week. Its only open from the tracks down to the lake and I don't think that area freezes over very thick due to the flow.

I am jealous those are good deals. I never seem to get any of those but I will be on the look out this year. Perhaps in the past I have got there late and everything good is gone.

  20. Here is an interesting blog link since we are discussing the biology of rainbows and steelhead. http://flyaddicts.com/flygal/2010/02/19/trout-in-a-new-light/ ://http://flyaddicts.com/flygal/2010/0...n-a-new-light/
  21. I am also starting my fly fishing career this year took lessons 2 years ago but never got out last year more than a couple times but have promised myself to get out there this year and do it. So to keep me motivated i Subscribed to Canadian Flyfisher magazine. I was having the same issue, don't have much in the way of flies. I will also be fishing the grand river and area. I was thinking of joining the KW fly fishing club. Any members also on OFC? Anyways when I was at the fishing show I picked up a pamphelt from Grandriver Troutfitters and it have a list of patterns and sizes by month for brown trout and smallmouth fishing on the river. I'll dig it out and post it here for everyone.
  22. Not my cup of tea, I don't particularly like the way the pictures are taken but as easy as it is to judge you can't really get too bent out of shape over hunting of a wolf where deemed appropriate and not have a problem with any other hunting. It would be hypocritical. Its like the P3TA people upset about furs and seals but walk around in clothing made of oil, how is that better for the earth? I do feel some sadness for the wolf that was harvested but no more than I would for any of the earths other creatures.
  23. One time on a canoe trip we ran out of the usual fish crisp stuff and so not having much else in surplus we decided to cook up some bass by marinating in rye and then battering with instant oatmeal. I believe it was cinnamon and spice! It was an interesting concoction to the say the least. On some fillets you could really taste the rye and others oatmeal. Of course when in doubt you can always season something and pretty much anything with montreal steak spice
