  1. the mods are gone?? wooohoo!!
  2. well i see the site is still not up. it's a good thing i went and registered with boaterexam.com and got my license through them. not that i've been checked yet this year but if i didn't have it yet, i would have been. hopefully they are still around as i've got money tied up with them -- the gf could use a card too.
  3. Thanks Blue Pickeral, the 30 & 40 are essentially the same motor for those years. I'd appreciate it!
  4. nice find Clive.
  5. I sent you a PM Ray. The 30 sips fuel, mine's EFI which makes a bit of a difference compared to carb as well.
  6. I'll take it Phil The one Terry suggested works by wrapping around a plug wire.. which would work fine but not as clean as I'd like. From reading on the net, the 'factory' ones connect into the charging circuit and my motor may already have a connector for it.
  7. all this talk about props & rpms has me curious about my rig. i know what the WOT rpms should be but my ear isn't that trained. what is involved in installing a tach on my 30 4-stroke merc tiller (2001)? is this something better left to a professional? i am somewhat mechanically inclined -- at least when it comes to automobile engines.
  8. some canadian tire locations carry hydrographic charts. find a dealer here: http://chs-shc.gc.ca/dealer-depositaire/locator-localisateur-eng.asp#h2
  9. it's the baits, not the fish that put a beating on you + gear.
  10. get a chart. hazards involved include rocks that'll remove your lower unit in a hurry. sans souci/frying pan is out in the blue water - it's in a good central location, great for sightseeing of all kinds but, i dont know the fishing right around the island itself aka there will be boating involved. there is more fishable water then one could fish in a lifetime in the area. you have the moon river delta right there for warm water species and the bay for the salmon/trout. if you're content catching tiny fish, fish the back bays. if you want bigger fish, fish the shoals aka forget about the back bays.
  11. yup Aikmans deals with just about everything. Just picked up my Quantum reel from them which was in for service.
  12. they are essentially muskie lures; believers, grandmas, ernies, legend perchbaits & plows are mass produced lures that come to mind & will get you down 15'+ on the troll. the former two are good to about 18', the latter three a littler deeper. dive curves/depth will increase with the use of wire line. to get even steeper dive curves/deeper diving lures you will have to look at custom lure makers. ie. brett's baits, wild canuck.
  13. power pro and tuff line for me the red lines are nothing but a gimmick - they don't disappear, they are just the first to turn grey/black. suckers.
  14. Typically the combos you get a crappy tire and such are just that.. crappy. It's usually better to combine the pieces together yourself. Since you already have a rod from the Rapala combo, my suggestion to you would be to skip the Zebco combo and just buy a quality reel - Shimano and Daiwa both have reels in that price range.
  15. one rod per angler on georgian bay! if you are looking for bigger fish, embrace trolling and/or cast off shore shoals with deep water access. lots of snot rockets in close to shore.
  16. congrats on your 1st. don't waste your time on jaw spreaders they are pretty much a useless piece of equipment when dealing with large fish. get some quality cutters. read the link in my signature if you want to know more about muskie c&r. there's a link under articles->muskies that you might find an interesting read too (starting muskie).
  17. You can't get across it right now. River is down more than 4'. Stick tight to Harold's docks coming in and out.
  18. legend boat packages are notoriously under powered -- don't be fooled by the sticker prices. i can tell just by looking at those two models you will want a bigger motor. it's usually best to max out or nearly max out the HP rating for the boat. the two models in question are rated for 50 & 60hp respectively. I bought a used mirrocraft and found it on kijiji. don't just look in your area either. sometimes a 1-2hr drive can be worth it.
  19. Tie direct, no hardware. In the case of braid + fluoro either join the two lines with a uni to uni or use the tiniest swivel you have. Tie the leader directly to the jig with some type of cinch knot & push the knot towards the hook so the jig sits horizontal in the water. a snap will just cause the jig to flop around and sit vertically. you probably know all this stuff so forgive me!! here's a tease. also remember the spring bite was over a looooooooooong time ago this year. i don't know what type of water you are fishing but i don't think you'll get them on typical late may early june spots.
  20. you get one provided you filed 2009 taxes the cut off is at 80k for single, 160k for family. ie. single, under 80k, you get $100. 80-82k you get somewhere between 0 and $100. Over 82k you get nothn. family, under 160k you get $330. 160-166,600 you get somewhere between 0 and $330. Over 166,600 you get nothn. Don't spend your bribe in one place Ontario.
  21. Thank you Roy-Bot!
  22. you need a ownership (and plate obviously) for the trailer -- from the MTO. you'll need a vessel license if you stick the 25 on it -- from Service Canada.
  23. there's gotta be a banana stuffed somewhere in the boat.
  24. I am not sure what you are asking Johnny. A turbine on an automobile, if it is exhaust driven is called a turbocharger. a supercharger if it is belt driven. They both do the same thing, cram (compress) more air into the combustion chamber and when mixed with more fuel, they produce more power. So yes, they are increasing the amount of air (compared to a naturally aspirated car engine) by pressurizing it. However, air without fuel is just air and if you add air you also need to add fuel. Both also need to fuel to run (exhaust in the case of a turbo, the crank spinning in the case of a SC)
  25. no they arent johnnybass. a typical turbo(ine) is powered exhaust gases -- which come from burning fuel. it serves to compress air. more air and more fuel = more power.
