  1. you don't need one. the way i do it is; measure distance from reel to first guide - it'll be 18" to 24" or so. when letting your lure out, "pull" the line from the reel to the 1st guide by hand. 20 pulls = 40 feet back.
  2. cheapest place i know of is Cobalt Cutter with Spring Acklands Grainger stocks knipex products if you have them in your neighbourhood but you will pay closer to $100
  3. I'm sure there's a few but... q: what's the difference between a kawarthas 50"er and one from just about anywhere else? a: about 15 lbs regardless, good shootn Pete.
  4. you're gonna have to change parts of ontario to get that 50.

    Rainwear

or cabelas guidewear if you don't dig the look of a nascar driver (bps crap)
  6. they have them in their warehouse. if not, they can order them for you
  7. acklands granger carrier knipex products in the gta. your cheapest bet is http://theringlord.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=70&cat=Wire+Cutters&websess=62355557517609
  8. sometimes that's fishn. important thing is we try to do our best. a good idea is to use a long wire leader (48" or so) when doing the type of trolling you describe (banging rocks). braid is not very abrasian resistant even if its 200lb test. you may already be doing that and poop happens but, a 4' leader would definately take a lot of that abuse instead of your main line. another good option for that style of fishn is to forget braid and run single strand wire on your reel. with a twilly tip on the rod. you will get down deeper with less line out too.
  9. i agree with ecm.. if you have a dedicated set of summers and you dont do any offroading in the summer where an AT tire would be warranted, then get the dedicated snows. the ATs are a good compromise for all year driving be it snow, dry pavement or on the trail.
  10. nice fish from what i've seen head size has more to do with environment and forage than whether a fish has potential to grow into anything given the same length, fish that tend to spend most of their lives in deep water have smaller heads, shallow water fish the opposite. great lakes (deep) fish that may eat a lot of alewife, cisco may have smaller heads than inland lake fish that spend time eating shallow water food
  11. yah i am pretty sure 6 mile is one of the parks with a booze ban on the major wknds.
  12. no new baits or gear -- have plenty and the more i fish, the more i find simple is better. i have a handful of proven producers and several outfits for different applications and species so.. this year it's "just" been terminal tackle a boat.
  13. twist the straps to get rid of the buzzing. (serious)
  14. have a look under there again, there will always be somethign to tie to. bumper supports will work.
  15. charge em 30 percent interest GB
  16. i'm surprised it doesn't run off D or C cells?
  17. this one requires a 0w inverter
  18. sounds like the split ring is slipping out of the arm of the spinnerbait. as mentioned above you can try pinching it down or a piece of shrink tubing over it will cure your problem too.
  19. shoulda boughta daiwa jigs can twist the line, not a bad idea to use a tiny swivel + leader + jig. you'll be surprised at the amount of tension line with nothing on it will put on the rod if you do the 'troll the empty line' trick to get rid of twist.
  20. plan for a delay at the key river bridge or, drive during off-peak times (just before arriving at the park) due to construction
  21. i'd be real weary of wind and excessive snow buildup with that setup. just my 0.02
  22. tekota is a nice reel but way out of your $$ range the sealines are great if you're a righty, i've seen my partner use them for a number of years and they take a beating i blew up a convector but it'll be fine for kawartha fish/lures. i now use an abu 7001 and 6501. don't be set on a LC. you're propably rarely trolling with more than 50' of line out, simple to count 'pulls' or wraps.
  23. my fiancee does. what is he looking to get done? does he have a design? send me a pm.
  24. for an out of the box solution, tite-lok makes a portable ducer holder that clamps to your boat. you can fab something up from a c-clamp and a hockey stick.
  25. looks like you picked the right colours there. there are no hard & fast rules. let the fish tell ya what they want. i primarily fish tea stained to clear water and like blues/purples/whites/natural colours on dark days/sunrise/sunset and the gawdier/metallic colours on bright days. black seems to work anytime and anywhere. that's not to say you wont catch a fish on a firetiger bait during a rainstorm.
