  1. Very nice Jay, it must have been a blast for everyone involved!
  2. Always happy to help bud. From what I understand Taltson is unique in that much of the water you'll be fishing is vast wide open weed flats, more or less casting blindly. Giant fish prowl those flats....there "may" be no better place in the world currently for trophy pike. Bulldogs are a favorite up there I know. FWIW last Sept while at Windsor lake my buddy and I had 6 Bulldogs bitten completely in half by large pike LOL! It was just the way they attacked those things. I ended up catching a number of large pike on a bright orange 8" twister tail and almost every one was hooked in the corner of the mouth unlike the Bulldogs which they destroyed. If I were you I'd stock up on bucktails and spinnerbaits as well. Cheers
  3. Slush doesn't look too brutal, nice fish bud. Crazy story about your neighbours hut, wow.
  4. Welcome to the board! I'm an avid steelheader myself, you'll love it here I'm sure.
  5. Welcome! Nice to see you on this site now. You'll love Taltson Bay, it's been on my personal bucket list for years. As far as Dave helping I've been prodding him for a couple years now to take us in his boat along with some camping gear over to that Taltson Bay area. He's afraid of the boat ride though and won't do it.
  6. For the non fisherperson this post could have some grim overtones.
  7. Much like Cabelas whatever BPS quoted you is all you'll pay.
  8. I remember that conversation well. Ultimately I love the stuff but only in 20lb test. Anything beyond that becomes a pain to tie. I only ever use it for fishing super light floating baits like Husky Jerks as the thin single strand is so light it allows the really light baits to fish much more effectively. Have never been bitten off using the 20lb either, and I caught a good number of toothy fish using it. For everything else (casting bucktails, spinnerbaits, trolling) I'm still partial to heavy fluoro.
  9. Very nice Doug! Drop me a line about a trip with your son, I can help. Am slowly getting pretty stoked about our trip in late May too, that'll be a good one I'm sure.
  10. Interesting, thanks. Wish I could say the same! Here's hoping the level of service doesn't diminish. Not exactly right Billy. The outfitters don't lease lakes they have a commercial land use permit for their outpost camps that is all. And for what it's worth I can't think of a single example in the province of Ontario where an outfitter has exclusive rights to a body of water.
  11. How's this for weird? I'm at work a couple days ago and my direct office line rings. Bear in mind this number is unlisted. Person asks for Mike, and I say your speaking to him, how can I help? He pauses then says he's very sorry, but that your mother just passed away. I panic and say I think you've got the wrong person! Exactly who is it you are trying to reach? He says "Mike Porter", and spells out the last name to me. I say that's close but not me. How did you get this number? At that point he apologizes and hangs up. Call display showed only that it was a private number. None of it made any sense and until I actually confirmed my mother was actually alive I was freaking out.. Someone's idea of a sick prank?
  12. Well I guess it depends on the intended use. I have a pair of really old felt pack pac boots as well that are still going strong. But the Columbia boot seems to be more of an athletic fit and style not to mention lighter. I walk my dog every day in the winter and I'm looking for a new boot. Will probably check out the Columbia's myself.
  13. I'm excited for you Gordy, you'll love it I'm sure.
  14. 100% legit. The press release was forwarded to me two days ago. Two very impressive fish for sure.
  15. Just for fun I had a quick look and you can buy any color you want individually at the Banjo Minnow store. You don't need to buy a kit.
  16. On those super cold days I'm picturing you sitting in front of a warm fire drink in hand, something like this:
  17. It's most likely a browser issue Brian, but regardless it's symptomatic of a bunch of issues with the site the last little while. I'm at the point now myself where I may not be posting anymore lengthy reports because serious issues with the site have caused me hours of grief. I sincerely hope those issues get resolved.
  18. I foresee a sudden drop in your rum stocks in the near future.
  19. Thanks Lew, that was a great trip for sure. I'm not going to repost it, but you can see it here: http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65413&hl=%2Bbrook+%2Btrout I feel very fortunate that a return trip is on tap for next year! Next year will be a special one, there's a bunch of amazing trips on the agenda.
  20. Quality over quantity. Nice recap Lew.
