turkey point, st williams, port rowan all have boat ramps and parking. you can drive all around to longpopint itself that has 3 ramps or just dive in at the nearest spot to you and start fishing the bay. great for smallies, largies and perch. shallow everywhere but outside of the sandbar not much to hit. port dover and the north shore are good for perch spring and fall. dunville dam down to port maitland is nice but not alot of fish. binbrook conservation will let bigger boats in to use their trolling motors and has some crappy and stuff.

well managed rick. there is really little bystanders can do other than initiate the ems response and keep everyone cool. nice call about clearing the way for incoming vehicles. accurate info for first responders is vital!

crime stories. cops are to darn slow!
smally21 replied to pike n' whities's topic in General Discussion
its actually more like 90%. some of these 'people' your are mouthing off live in half million dollar homes and work pretty hard. its not the responders its the systems that tie up resources for hours processing domestics, impaireds, etc. fire truck about 4 mins, ambulance 10 mins, police cant give you a time. the fire truck always comes, the ambulance gets there eventually depending on call volumes and drop off times - its weird to think you could call the police and they just dont come. and dont lecture me about 911 calls and common sense for all you know im the guy on the other end of the line.... -
crime stories. cops are to darn slow!

so who does respond to the vandalism and other Bull that goes on in our neighbourhoods if the cops are out arresting bad guys 24/7? you're telling me there is no one available in all these instances? i guess ill just commit petty crimes and acts of hooliganism unfettered...... -
8 inches times 48 inches times 1 inches + waste = about 3.5 board feet of lumber. i pay about 2$ a board foot so its a 7-8 dollar board. i can buy an inch and a quarter board at about 6 places within 15 minutes of my house, plane it to one inch in about 5 minutes, cover it in spar varnish and the boat will fall apart around it. all im getting at is lets not overcomplicate it, if you have a buddy with a planer find a local mill or lumber supply and pick out a piece you like - if you're anywhere near hamilton pm me and we'll set you up in the lumber of your choice. of course it may be easier just to laminate some ply and be prepared to repeat ovber the years. good luck.

cant even get started on this issue but in my highly populated fully serviced area (in a high income area as well) the police are a minumum 45 minutes or just never come at all. i dont want to lie to the dispatcher but you almost need to in order to get tiered within the week. its never the officers fault of course but there is definitely a problem with the system when punk kids vandalize a neighbourhood for an hour and no police ever show up...... -
Need some help to choose the right trolling motor!!
smally21 replied to Jackie's topic in General Discussion
my 2 cents - 3 batteries 2 wired at 24v just for the trolling motor, 1 12v for engine and accessories. 24v lasts way longer - ive gone for days with my 80lb terrova. one thing i would attention to is the lift assist mechanism, the cable steers seem to go in and out easier?? my terrova is a pain in the ass to get in and out - i do the type of fishing where i move it 30 times a morning, keep this in mind!! -
i fished shorelines for bass with white grubs and gulp minnows and did better there than anywhere else all summer, had a few muskies go after the bass. id like to here how you do as im going in august.

i fished the grand above and below the dam in dunnville throughout the year because it is close. while i enjoy it, i never catch anything - ever! methods tried and true that catch me fish everywhere else yield nothing in that damn river. i think its because there are no fish!!!

has anyone here had an xray on their lungs
smally21 replied to rickster's topic in General Discussion
i have chest xrays yearly as a job requirement, and recently have experienced breathing problems and chest pain. as well as the viral and bacterial infections that could cause the problem there are acute chemical irritations that can present similar to bronchial or pnemonia like symptoms. dark spots or streaks can also be explained by pleural thickening, a hardening in the lung tissue that can be naturally occuring or caused by infection or enviroment. many xrays and visits later seems the problem was 'unknown, but you don't have any thing we can find.' let your doctors do the worrying i suppose. dont let an unknown spoil your day! -
id say its worth about 200 a week. please advise ill take all vacancies. but seriously i shop around and rent a couple of times a year usually runs min 800 max 1200 a week. low and high season periods just aggravate me as a customer, its worth what is fair. keep the pets and the smokers out and most people will be happy with a neat, well equipped cottage. good luck.

the deepest parts are obviously the channels. check the channels just outside deer bay for walleyes. great crappy fishing just outside the channels by deer bay. catch bass where weeds meet rock - this is important the transitions were the hot spots last summer. bass got bigger towards fairy lake lock, id head that way if i was staying in deer bay.

i was there in may. typical outdated cabins but comfortable for fishing. nice hosts, reasonable rates. good boats if you get the upgrade. not too private. very shallow everywhere til you get past the hardwood islands. nice looking boating area, tons of islands.

thinking about doing a little canoeing at rockwood. heard it has intereseting caves and geological formations. any experience with this?
-
garry this really flies in the face of my 'do the exact same thing in the exact same place i caught that fish 3 seasons ago by this rock' approach. your idea about changing tactics may reduce my ability to witch and moan about the fishing later.

welcome aboard, you can start by telling me everything you know about buckhorn complete with maps and lure choices....

stabilizer as cheap insurence great idea. this bad gas story going around kind of gets to me. the fear mongers that spout this gas seperating or going bad would have you believe it goes bad on the way home from the pump. gas takes a loooong time to go off to the point of causing a no start. ive started engines that have sat for years with the gas in them. no stabilizer in the snowblower, lawnmower, stored motorcycle ever.(just the boat). how about the new car that sits on the lot for months before it gets sold? does the dealership change out the fuel or add stabilizer? do they remove the batteries and store them on a trickle charger? of course not. "probably bad gas" to me translates to "i have no idea what is wrong with your boat - but i want to sound smart by repeating something i heard some oldtimer say at the bait shop" not sure what the post was about or what im talking about, just heard way too much about bad gas lately...

i like the 55 pack, great to share with a buddy.

in the wide world of boats 1990-1994 is really not that old. if you are happy with the boat invest a little dough in it. because the deck is already in place gives you an advantage even if you aren't terribly handy. remove the rotten materials with a bit of care, reproduce them with new materials and install. because you see it come apart means you know how to put it together. the casting deck issue has been done to death here if you want to review it may give you an idea of what you are getting into. gerrit has made a hell of an offer. maybe hell throw in the beer too?

what i notice about fishing the smaller lakes around parry sound is the fish act the way the manual says. fish the way the magazine article said and you'll do well. there are bass and pike in the weedbeds, and smallies congregate around dropoffs behind points and islands and you can do well with jigs with live or artificial baits. really nice area i remind myself to do some boating as well as fishing when i am there.

thinking about trying to catch some pike But

check it out - a reply based on actual experience this is the stuff we need to hear about! -
the word ownership keeps coming up. there is no such thing as an ownership for a boat, while there are registration and licensing documents. a bill of sale signed and dated by you and the seller is about the closest thing that qualifies. a big hole in the process if you ask me.

we fished the west arm the weekend before - jigging worms, trolling harnesses, casting crankbaits til our arms fell off. scored a few eyes butmostly pike. the whole area is 5-7 feet deep and endless searching yields almost no structure, just a big flat bowl. travelled out a couple of times past the hardwoods and found some deeper water but very difficult to find shoals or dropoffs. nice scenery, had a great shore lunch. id probably fish nipissing again from a different area, although with normal water depths the endless bays and islands look great for bass. nice post, great pics.

we used regularly lumber, 2*6's with land and sea marine carpet on our trailers. staple along the sides and fold the ends like a present. if you dont fold the carpet all the way around the wood you can leave a little slice of wood showing to help the wood drain and dry.
