  1. Hey Capt, I'm interested in this as well as Hastings has closed up and Dunford's not what they used to be. Kawartha Guy
  2. So I back in, launch the boat, it glides off smoothly into the lake. I walk around the trailer and pull on the bow line to bring the boat back to the dock when the line snaps and there is a good off-shore breeze. So I start flipping off my shoes, socks, pull out my wallet, keys, off goes the shirt and now the boat is about 20 yards offshore. Dive in, head-up front crawl aka Johnny Weissmuller to the boat and grab the remaining rope and swim it back to shore. A little excitement to start the day but felt good to hear the applause! 3. Hey Garnet, Read somewhere (OOD?) that they are dredging the shoreline north of west shore marine on the bog. Hopefully, they use the gab backets in the project. Kawartha Guy - Go LEAFS!
  4. Hey Jimmer, Thanks for clearing up the reefer and on 4/20! Respecting the slot is not always happening on Rice: -American tourists routinely keeping "overs" and bass out-of-season -locals that go ice fishing, catch a Walleye, hide it in the snow and return after dark to retrieve it We all have to do our part. Kawartha Guy - Go MNR!
  5. Hey Capt, One more thought on Pigeon. I recall reading years back (OOD?) that the Ministry created an artificial spawning reef off Big Island for the Walleye. That might have a lot to do with numbers coming back. Kawartha Guy - Go Jays!
  6. Hey Capt, Glad to hear Pigeon is doing well. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned stocking Walleye to speed up the recovery? I like the idea of transferring some Quinte fish to the Kawarthas like the Ministry did into the Toronto Islands and Hamilton Harbour. Seems to have worked to establish a population quickly. Kawartha Guy - Go RAPS go!
  7. Good question bud. Been fishing FMZ17 for 30 years and have seen the good times and the Scugog collapse. Years before the Ministry closed Scugog I said the lake was fished out for Walleye despite creel surveys indicating the lake was healthy. But then again Pacific Sockeye and Atlantic Cod also collapsed but those examples involved a lot of politics. Anyway, I think the new regs are working and the fish are coming back. Rice is healthy and has the advantage of the Trent for spawning and with two good spawns the lake recovers quickly. I used to fish the Tri-lakes a lot but have stayed away because I think Buckhorn and Chemung were in tough shape with only big fish but not all sizes. I'm going to start going back and see how the lakes are doing. Kawartha Guy - Go Leafs Go!
  8. Hey B, In my experience, UV rays will degrade any boat cover and the stress points like gunwale areas will go first. One thing I do now to extend the life of my boat cover is to put an oversize tarp over the boat and trailer for extended periods of storage on land. I use tent pegs on the corners to hold it down and is basically a pup tent with the benefit of water running off without pooling. KawarthaGuy
  9. Hey guys, I came across this lure on youtube and think it would work on my lake (Kawarthas). Any thoughts, experiences? Looks like you can only buy it thru their website. Walleye Guy
  10. Hey Super, Here's the promo: http://www.entrepotmarinemart.com/en WalleyeGuy
  11. Marine Mart in Mississauga has a big sale on this week. An unusual type of sale where you make an "offer" on any item in the store and they accept, reject or counter your offer until you come to an agreement. Apparently they do this at their Montreal store. Some items I bought: -braided nylon 20' x 1/2" rope $19 -deluxe bicycle-style boat seat $35 -black tank treatment $11 These are the prices I paid today. WalleyeGuy
  12. Hey Jimmer, Good question. IMHO the Walleye pop is way down on a few lakes e.g. Tri-lakes but have not been closed like was done w Scugog. Personally I don't do that great until the milfoil overtakes the thin cabbage usually in June sometime. Walleye Guy
  13. The biggest waves I've experienced on Rice were about 4'. Not much if you have ever been on the ocean but if you take a 4' wave sideways on a small boat you will be in a world of hurt. Walleye Guy
  14. What about a second batt that you keep charging while you use the other one? Much cheaper than a generator although that has more options.
  15. oops, here is the map.......... http://www.fishingwithpiotr.com/fishing-maps/pigeon-lake/
