  1. I spent some time fishing the Gibson river this past week. Caught a few fish, mostly bass and pike, but we did catch one walleye, some catfish, blue gill, crappie and rock bass. The water in the river is really mercy and dark colored. I found that the most productive lures for bass and pike where Hulla Poppers and Jitter Bugs, also got a few on a pink flatfish. My week of fishing has left me with a few questions. Maybe the wealth of knowledge here at OFC can help me out. Questions #1 - Some (but not all) of the bass we caught where very dark. All of the bigger ones where. Is this because the water is so dark? I've caught really dark colored bass before, but not this many. See pic bellow, this is my wife's first bass, and first fish of a decent size. She just started fishing this year, and she loves it! Question #2 - I'm new to this Top Water thing. I'm noticing tons of strikes, but I can't seem to get the hooks in. Is this normal? I'm using a light, sensitive walleye rod, with 6lb braid. I think that's a little to light, as I broke off a few hulla-poppers trying to set the hook. What is a good set up for top water? Should I be hammering on the hock set right away, or letting them take it for a little before cranking it? Here's a nice shot of the area we where fishing. And here's my wife and dog enjoying a sunny day on the water. The wind was cold that day!
  2. Those are some nice pictures. Thanks for posting them!
  3. I just smashed my C.T. Rapala glasses last week and am looking to replace them.. What's the price range on these shades.? I checked out the website briefly, and they look like nice glasses.
  4. I use a Seahorse water proof case. Not sure the price of it, as I got it free through work. It's big enough to hold a SLR, wallet, cell phone, and a few other small things. If your looking for a small waterproof case, Pelican has a variety of sizes. http://www.pelicancases.ca/ To Bad about the crackberry. Hope you have a replacement plan of some sort!
  5. Not at all man. On the contrary. Geary, I'm not doubting the fact that your clients caught 800 eyes in one day. What arks me, is there's people who have expressed serious concern about how you run your camp. What I would like to know if what you are doing to make your camp better. Not just another report showing big walleye and pike. If you run your camp the way to respond to the negative posts in this thread (ignore them), then how is your camp going to get better?
  6. This post is really frustrating me. Someone totally slams the guy. Actual reports of unsatisfied customers who have had their well being risked while fishing at this resort.. Potentially life threatening situations. What does the resort owner do?? Posts again talking about his clients catching 800 walleye in a few hours, and attaches a bunch of pictures to boot.... And to top it off, says that 30 the walleye where attacked by massive pike! Maybe I'm alone on this one, but Kgeary, You're deterring me from even considering your resort for future fishing trips. Give me a 40% Discount.. I'm still not coming to your resort.
  7. I design automation. Specifically for the stamping industry. Feeders, transfer system, and tooling. By the looks of it, Spiel knows what I'm talking about.. I don't design coil feeders though.. Fish Farmer.. Nice gig! I worked in a casting factory for 5 years pouring molten iron. To dam hot in the summer time! Good cash though.
  8. That's good resolution. Thanks for posting this! Funny it happened to be a civilian though eh..
  9. There are some good points here guys. A few more things I need to throw in the trunk.. I bought new tires for my trailer this spring. They are one side bigger the ones I used to have on. But I kept my spare the same size. I figure it will OK to use as a spare to nurse me home. The original where 4.8, 4 bolt, and the new ones are 5.7, 4 bolt. What do you guys think? Should I spend the extra $50 and get the correct size spare?, or will one size lower work??
  10. Looks like you had an alright time.. Thanks for sharing!
  11. In your previous post about this, we gave you about a dozen lakes to try.. They're all great lakes, within your 3 hour driving range. Pick one, and giver.
  12. Here's my girl Riley at a few months old. She was dark colored when she was young. More of a light shade now. She's a Havanese. The next one will be big ol huntin dawg!
  13. Meps spinner baits. Change your speed up if your not getting bits. Look for weed beds, there's lots of them.
  14. Thanks for the input guys. Gibson Lake is on a reserve, and I'm not sure about the fishing laws there. We are going to be way down the river, closer to G-Bay. I will definitly look into the regs before I go out though. Thanks for the location Cudz, I'll try there on our way in to the camp. I think we have to padle by there coming in and out. Nothing funner then catching a monster gator in a canoe loaded up with camping gear!
  15. I'm going camping with a bunch of my wife's friends for the next long weekend. They go to the same place every year, and have been for the past 10 years or so. It's on the Gibson River (from what I can tell), about 3 rapids away from G-Bay. Seeing as I've never been there before, and i will be in a canoe, I don't think I can make it out on to G-Bay. I think I'll be stuck in the river for the weekend.. I was just wondering if anyone has fished this area before. I would love a pickerel, roasted over a camp fire Any tips on the eyes in this area would be more then appreciated! Any tips that would make me look like a pro walleye angler in front of my wives friends, Priceless! Thanks,
  16. Good stuff man.. Gotta love the deep bush of Barrie. Never know what you might find.
  17. He sounds hammered!
  18. Those are some crazy looking fish!
  19. That's a beuty camp you got there Solo. How many other camps on the lake? Sure does look peaceful up there!
  20. I think this would be a crappy spot to camp.. Pretty hard core trailer part there, if ya know what I mean. And the rental boats are junky, heavy pontoon boats.. I fished there last weekend. Lots of small pike and LMB
  21. Six Mile Lake PP. You can rent a boat just down the road at Six Mile lake marina..
  22. I'm good friends with the son of the owners back in the 80's. We stopped in there at the start of the season, and he met the new owner. Talking to the new owner, I guess he really wants to make the lodge more fishing oriented, as it was in the past. The few owners who had the lodge after the Oberholtzer's really didn't care much for fishing, and it kind of slid downhill.. It sure does look like a nice place to stay though. Great area, lots of water.
  23. Sweat fish man. Congrets!
  24. Nice outing man! What did you catch them on? I've never had much luck for pike on cooks
  25. No hate towards cops here either.. Like I said, it's my goal to become one. Just the situation. 3 boats in one year is a bit over the top.. Worth posting about..
