    Huge Pike

Ya, I always hate it when people make their pictures look different and interesting. my mom hates me. Why can't we see the exact same, full length horizontal pike shot every single time, from every person?! What a fish Dave.
  4. lol Good times, despite the bust! Tho Tim I'd suggest just fashioning a metal brace to the mount if you cant get the part.
  5. Compare to Lake St Clair. it is worth the time and effort.
  6. The CT roe works in the runs but rarely in the pools where the fish have time to inspect it. Easiest setup is a big split shot about 8 - 10 inches up the line from a #6 egg hook & your roe bag of choice. With roe, you are pretty much snagging salmon in the mouth. Steelies & browns however, will actually eat it. On the other hand, salmon do continue to bite lures out of aggression/annoyance. Keep casting your lure around a salmon and eventually he will get angry and strike.
  7. You threw the first stone, as always, fly guy! Dish it out, but expect to take it back in your "ass fly" Ahh, sorry, it wasn't you who cast the stone. One of your brethren. "Consider the source" solopaddler? lmao I considered the source of that comment, and imagined a loser in hip waders carrying a purse full of microscopic fishing lures whipping his rod around for an 8 inch superbeast.
  8. Honestly, my arsenal for browns has changed so drastically since I started as a kid. My go-to used to be a 1/8th oz 5 diamonds spoon. I don't even own one anymore. Small spinnerbaits (Mini-Kings), 2 1/2" jerkbaits (Rebels), Crappie senkos, Gulp Minnows, gobies & angleworms (for specks) and 3" white grubs are my whole tackle supply for trout now. Jerkbaits are my fav way to fish 'em, more of a summertime bait though. This time of year the quick moving baits in the runs seems to be the most productive method. And if nothing works, drift a live chub minnow under a float in the deep holes, hold on tight. Thanks for the comments everyone!
  9. Hahahahaha, fly fishermen. How dare you insult the most prestigious, perfect way to fish, ever created?! Why, holding a regular fishing rod might as well be holding a Dora rod cuz you're not a man until you've whipped a tiny ass fly out into a river 6 million times to MAYBE land a half decent fish, which would have been much more easily and safely caught with a real rod. I fly fished for 3 years. What a joke.
  10. 10 days left in the season to enjoy the inland versions of the salmonoids everyone is after! I much prefer a quiet afternoon on a lazy river, looking for residents than the shoulder-to-shoulder, litter, snag, argument, rudeness fest that is steelheading. Anywho, if you're gonna go after the inland fish.. don't forget the white spinnerbaits. ;-)
  11. Well if you can take the idea of walleye off the list, since they require deep water trolling anyway, just rent a pontoon boat in port rowan. No guide required. Just keep heading into the bay until the weeds become sparse, thats where you start fishing. Anchor or drift, your choice.. but there's perch & bass everywhere.
  12. Right on. Perch.
  13. The most accessible, obvious, and probably best spot right now is the pier. Bring some live worms or minnows, bell sinkers and hooks. Cast and wait. You never know what you'll get there at this time of year. Park right at the fishing spot, bench to sit on, food vendors nearby.
  14. Try also tossing chartreuse 'Big O' crankbaits. Rip them fast. Adding an elbow spinner to your jig may put the odds in your end as well.
  15. My bad! Sassy shads are great little float fishing baits.. better yet a Gulp Minnow or Goby. And yah MJL I love the jerkbaits.. jointed are good for straight runs & long casts, but the other jerkbaits are great too. The only steelheading I enjoy actually, is with a jerkbait. It's like river fishing for smallies, same deal. Twitch, twitch around that logjam.. and out darts a silver beast! Sure beats a bobber (sorry "float", for those trout pros)
  16. I don't bother pinching barbs unless I've trout fishing. Everything else I'm confident enough in my skills to not deep hook any.
  17. I'd just enjoy fishing the same as now.. anywhere and everywhere. I'd just have more time to do it.
  18. Black buzzbait triple buzz, with a white trailer
  19. Gulp Alive Gobies - amazing steelhead baits
  20. learn it
  21. I think the booming fish populations in Lake Erie far more than 10 years after the introduction of gobies proves they'll naturally become part of the species chain like everything else.
  22. You have odd definitions of C&R my friend.
  23. Funny thing about brookies is, they're treated as the rarest of trout.. yet they are everywhere there's a river, creek or ditch. Push through some bush, and use little lures. I've even caught them around a certain red hill.
  24. Not a common catch, but very possible! I've seen them in weird places in Lake Erie over the years. Makes sense.
