I can't believe I just read this whole thread. Nothing but respect to those who spend the time and effort to run this site. I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody. - Bill Cosby One easy way to delete you account...off button. Keep up the Good work OFC. -
Frogmore? I drove through there once, I think it says Welcome to Frogmore on both sides of the same sign. Nice picture, gotta love kids fishing and having fun with the family.

Rice Lake is full of big gills. 9 inch pumkinseed and a 10 inch bluegill. If these fish grew to 10lbs they would rip your arms off. I love that first picture in this thread, looks like the fish swam into a wall. Tank gill.

Well there was at least one that made it to the table. Saw 5 different toms by 8:30 am today. Birds everywhere.

Hi Cliff: I filed a complaint with the MNR, last year about the sale of live crappie and was amazed to find out that it is legal. There are apparently a few licensed commercial operations that catch and sell live crappie in Ontario. If the fish are purchased from these commercial operators there is nothing wrong. Hard to blame the markets if they are selling legal fish but I don't support it. Start by complaining to whoever issues these licenses.

That's diehard. Glad you had fun with friends.

Interesting find today north Oshawa
Michael_Brown replied to bigredfisher's topic in General Discussion
You never know what you may see north of Oshawa. What size were the fish, bigger than average rainbows. I'm not sure what size Atlantics are when they enter the systems to spawn. It is OK, with the heavy rains tonight they should be offshore at Darlington by tomorrow morning. -

You passed along knowledge, wisdom and friendship to many. Thank You John Rest well and close to a stream full of fish.

Like Roy has pointed out, the regulations for Balsam differ from the rest of the zone. The reason for this is that the slot limit on Balsam was implemented years ago and it is a study lake. The MNR has been monitoring the walleye population on Balsam and the results will be compared to the slot limit in the rest of Zone 17. Hopefully showing which slot limit and management tool is most effective for producing strong walleye populations in the Kawartha's for years to come. Nice to see active management of the resource in our area.

Would not work even if they wanted to try. They have been similar efforts in the past to wipe out established invasive species, never works. Once they are there it is too late. They are harmful fish when they are invasive but once they are in, start working on the next lake. Most pike in Balsam are 3 inches long, not 3 feet, hard to wipe out non-angling size fish with regular tackle. The good news is the wallee population has come back nicely in Balsam, you might even find some pickeral or Dore in there depending on what generation or province you come from. Watch out for the pike perch and you may catch the elusive logperch if your lucky. http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/460315/pike-perch http://www.rook.org/earl/bwca/nature/fish/percinacap.html

I have not been able to post any pictures either. It says the server returned an error. Does not matter the source of the photo, web or personal it is denied. Maybe they just were not interesting enough... -
This is when they would call me.

So I just checked and Hasting is the top voted town in central Canada but there are a couple of places in BC that are ahead in the voting. Now with the famous fishing in Rice Lake and the number of people who live around or near Rice Lake we should be able to beat anywhere in BC. Thanks to those who have voted and you can vote once for each e-mail account you may have. Come on OFC lets get Hastings the win.

http://www.wfnfishingtown.ca/town/hastings-on Hi Everyone: Take a minute and vote for the Town of Hastings in the WFN Ultimate Fishing Town Canada. The town of Hastings is the location of a free kids fishing day on May 28, 2011. This event will introduce new anglers and their families to the wonderful sport of fishing. OFAH Tackleshare will be loaning fishing equipment to any that may need and the event is part of the Rice Lake Fishing Festival. For more information on the festival visit the website. http://www.ricelakes...ingfestival.ca/ Cast a vote for a great fishing community.

Nobody has ever used stocking list information before? Also most of those maps came from the government. This link is a little more modern and with some fine tuning, should be useful. You have to launch something and take it out for a drive to see how it works. No worries, with the thousands of lakes in Ontario, it might not be all inclusive of the small lakes and you would still have to leave your house to fish these lakes. I personally think Ron is a troublemaker for posting useful public information like this and starting discussions. He is the kind of guy who would cast to your best spot or make you buy the coffee, even though your driving.

Your kidding right? The post that your talking about was posted by me. It was a press release listing of effective enforcement being done by MNR staff. Your logic of restricting access to information for the 99% of anglers that follow the rules and to restrict information to the 1% of poachers is flawed. I personally think this is a great website that is still in development. There are enough people on this website that understand computer programing to realize that these things are always a work in progress and not something your stick together overnight. An effort to move away from the 30 year old paper info to a tool that is useful and progressive is a wonderful idea. If you want it to be more accurate send information to the MNR staff working on this project. It beats trying to find the phone number of some bait shop 50 miles from where you want to go to get information that might be useful. Excellent work to those involved in this project and hopefully as this program expands it becomes a tool that is useful to a large group of Ontario anglers. One role of the MNR is to offer angling opportunities where available and this is a great example. This will also generate tourism as more anglers find information on lakes and rivers in regions they previously had no information available. Of course there are still those who do not use computers but they will not read this thread so it does not matter. Thanks for the post Ron, I have been waiting for this.

http://www.bigeyeleather.ca/pro_wallet.html The one I have is brown. Walleye skin on exterior and aligator skin interior, held in incredibly manly pants pocket except when in use.

http://www.bigeyeleather.ca/ I'm not sure if anyone else found this product at the recent Toronto Sportsman show. The booth beside the Rice Lake Festival booth was Big Eye Leather. They had some really cool products made from walleye skin which had been tanned into a unique leather. They had gloves, cell phone holders, etc. The people that did find it really, enjoyed the products. I picked up a wallet and business card holder and after a few weeks of use, I love it. The stuff is really durable and good quality. The best part is everytime I show someone my walleye leather wallet, they say the same thing...Your kidding?.. A little pricey but certainly a conversation starter. Apparently you can embroider on the leather as well, maybe a festival logo on a few next year. The guy was very nice and from Manitoba, fish skin comes from commercial fish harvested. Anyone else pick up these products?

Fish Recipes Section on the board?

http://www.ricelakespringfishingfestival.ca/?q=node/125 Foil wrapped panfish from the Rice Lake fishing festival website forum. Enjoy. -
Last couple of years it seems like any weed line in 6-10 feet of water was a sure thing for walleye. A crankbait early or late in the day casting the edges. Or a jig anytime worked along the weed line. From the opener on May 14 until mid-June the walleye fishing was hot. The key for me seemed to be to look for weedbeds that were "alive" and by that I mean lots of life in the form of bugs. minnows, panfish, etc. Plus the bonus was that these same weedbeds always keep you busy with action. If the walleye bite slows, your still hammering Crappie or Perch or Blue Gills. I hope you enjoy your camping trip.

Great Job to the enforcement staff. To get larger fines is not always easy and takes more work and detail in the investigation, then most people imagine. The other common misconception is the fines go to the MNR. Fines are collected by the municipality. So if nothing else maybe these good MNR staff can get their streets plowed a little quicker next winter.
