Great lake for pike and bass. The largest bass I have ever seen caught came from this lake. The fish was over 8lbs but was caught in the spring while pike fishing and she was quickly released. There is an island in the middle of the lake and there is a shallow bar that runs off the north tip of the island. We use to hammer good bass and pike off the deep side (west?). Avoid the bay by the road, never had much luck there, might be because of the large amounts of winter salt that ends up in that part of the lake from snowplowing, just a guess. The lake has both largemouth and smallmouth bass. Try throwing a big white spinnerbait for best results. No walleye that I know of. You would make a mistake to leave this lake to fish elsewhere in the area. Hidden gem that is not hidden. Poor boat access keeps the angling pressure down. The trailer park has a boat ramp but the charge large $. Great place to pick up steaks at the Glen Orchard store. The lake is not very big but you should have fun.

The walleye tour is an american series. I would assume they have very few Canadian events unless they want some really good action. You may not be bragging about any of your fisheries (BC?) but besides the fantastic walleye fishing in northern Ontario, we have the Bay of Quinte, you may have heard of it? Possibly the best big walleye fishery in North America. Of course you could make the arguement that Lake Erie is the best, oh yah, that is Ontario as well. Do the 50 fish days at Rice Lake count? Let's see maybe you were talking about another Ontario? I'm quite willing to brag that I live in some of the best walleye water in the world.

I'm confused. Does the Preperation H go on the Badger, frozen Shrimp or the fishing partner? Who knew trying to catch catfish was so scientific. Should be a good weekend of line stretching, bait stinking, friend teasing fun. Pictures to follow on Sunday night.

Just admit you made a series of mistakes and move on. The over limit thing is one issue but the obstruction charge? You usually have to work for that one. I would expect no less from anglers being disappointed in hearing this news. I don't think it is taking pleasure in your misfortunes because that would assume that it was just bad luck that you were charged. Yes you are involved in the fishing industry and Merland Park does make positive contributions, so man up, move forward and learn your lesson. Maybe you could make a couple of those positive contributions now, instead of slinging mud back at those who are disappointed in you.

Ron: Considering they may be a small wager in place for the biggest cat this coming weekend, I feel asking 8000 members for their secret bait is cheating. So to make things fair, if anyone has a real secret bait that was just to good to share with Ron in the open forum, please PM me and I will let you know if it outfishes Ron's sucker-chunk, chicken liver, shrimp combination bait. Small comission may apply after collecting wager from Ron. Also as many have pointed out, I will be avoiding your spiked ceasar trick as well. Just leveling the playing field. I heard big cats like suicks....you should throw one of those all weekend.

Possible Snakefish Caught In Fort Erie
Michael_Brown replied to Stern Rules's topic in General Discussion
I love that she didn't know what it was but still ate the fish. Good thing it wasn't a coelacanth. -
After eighteen years underground, you would think they would look happier to be topside.

Smoked walleye to Big Cliff? Nice one. Did you tell him that the GPS coordinates of a great walleye spot on Sturgeon were stamped into the fillet after he finished?

How to clean a carp? You need soap, water and a small scrub brush. Make sure you read the directions on the soap first and then gently scrub your carp with the soap and brush, (they like to be scrubbed under the belly ). Once you have finished cleaning your carp, rinse with water and release. Careful not to harm the carp because if it dies you may be required to consume the fish so as not to break any federal regulations about wasting the flesh of an angling caught fish. We need more anglers like you who want to clean up the environment and the fish that live in it. Good Luck. Same process for cleaning the frog but as a domestic species you could probably consume the frog if it passes during the refreshing bath.

A good looking boat, with some decent options, made in Canada for a fair price....what a concept. I had a good look at one of these last spring and it seemed a good deal, plus they are made right here in Ontario. Strong selling feature for me.

Awesome Cliff. I always like someone willing to step forward. This is a great community. Although if Cliff starts milking you for walleye spots make sure the interview is over first.... . You should also check this website. http://www.gojobs.gov.on.ca/ Every provincial government job available is posted here every week day. I parked my bulldozer one day applied, and was shaking hands with the minister of labour within a month. If a job looks interesting always apply. Remember you don't accept a job until it's offered but if you don't apply the opportunity is not offered. Good Luck. PS. Bring fresh fish to Big Cliff's as a bargining chip.

We used to make carp bait out of cornmeal, honey and jello. Mix it up make it thick and sticky and roll into bite size balls and put in the fridge. I also agree with the long term chum if you can, definately brings in a lot of fish. If the shoreline is shallow you can usually get by without a net by beaching the fish but use it if your more comfortable. My method of fishing is a larger spinning reel with a good drag, cast out, reel enough tension to remove the slack line and then back the drag off to zero. This way they can't steal your rod. Without the drag they usually run out slow, pick up the rod, tighten the drag(important ) and hold on. Stay with it, carp are fun and usually agreeable to a good scrap. Plus the average size is way bigger than bass, walleye, crappie and even muskie. Big fish are fun.

Some pretty nice lakes on your list but if it's action your after it's hard to beat Rice Lake or Bay of Quinte for numbers and quality of fish. Some great resorts on both waterbodies, plus a lot shorter drive.

With the millions they spend in research and other environmental programs to greenwash their image, they should possibly consider changing their system to something similar to Darlington. They have already dumped enough cash into upgrades and repairs why not adopt a better water intake system. Yes it would cost money but it would also create jobs, improve the system and reduce the impact on the ecosystem and it might just help their public image to show they are being proactive in solving a problem.

Three Mile lake has Largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, perch, sunfish, rockbass and cisco's. It is a good lake for fishing. For bass and walleye I used to fish the around the trailer park and in Green bay. There is a boat launch near the trailer park. Most fish will be related to some of the weed cover. If your staying over, a rapala at dark cast over the sand or rock points will usually count for some decent wallaye. I have caught walleye up to 8lbs in Three Mile. The Muskoka Bassmasters club have held tournaments there in the past with goods weights of bass. They would be a good source of info. Good luck.

Bring a shovel so you can dig a hole deep enough for your minnow to be able to swim.

Great new ride. Hopefully it has a large fuel tank so you can stop and top up your dodge between gas stations.

So Garnet; Let's hear your idea about what walleye regulation would work for all anglers and all lakes in zone 17. I know your not a fan of slots and you attended the public meetings on these regulations but I don't remember if you proposed anything that might be a good alternative. Remember you cannot base a regulation on only the skilled anglers ability to catch fish. I think if there was even one walleye in these lakes some guys would track it down and catch it. A few more years of good spawning reproduction will do wonders for these lakes, there was a few years when we had very little reproduction and the population suffered. If you want to get more involved, over the last few springs a small group of angling volunteers have been doing walleye spawning counts at night in the fast water spawning sites in this area. Gathering information on the prime spawning areas and possibly identifying areas that might be considered for spawning site rehabilitation. I will post the contact info in the early spring.

How has the action been lately?

I think it's odd that a new regualtion that has been in place for 6 weeks is already impacting a walleye population the size of Rice.

The MNR probably has more research and information on the Balsam Lake Slot limit than any other regulation they have implemented over the last number of years. The idea is to use it as a comparison to the rest of the zone to see which regulation is the most effective. 10 years from now it might be that the entire zone would benefit from the harvestable slot or the restricted slot, at that point the regulations could be changed for the zone to the model that appears to work the best. Also because the model for this harvestable slot predicts population increases with a year long season, it should really benefit Scugog, which allows ice angling for walleye in zone 17.
-
I should be able to help here. The new regulation for walleye in Zone 17 is a harvestable slot, you may keep wallye between 35cm-50cm (call it 14-19inches), 4 fish for a regular sport license, 1 fish for a conservation license. Any fish above or below the slot shall be released. Prior to this regulation change a protected slot on Balsam lake had been in place, you may not keep fish inside the slot size. (sorry I don't have the exact measurements handy, but it close if not the same as the Zone 17 sizes). This slot was left in place as a comparison model for the zone. I also like these new regulations and not just because I was involved in the process. It is really nice slipping a big female back into the lake knowing she will spawn as many times as possible before passing of old age. I would rather catch twenty a day and have to release most, instead of only catching a couple. Also Rick, the 300 limit is for sunfish in all of Zone 17 of which only 30 can be over 7.1 inches, if you have a sport fishing license.

How? My PM thingie isn't working very well. (probably me)
