Who's pumped for Fall Fishing - Personal Best beating time!
Michael_Brown replied to Harrison's topic in General Discussion
Some awesome fish in this thread. .jpg] Chris Giles with a big 6lb fall smallie. During our annual fall smallie hunt. (next weekend ) Not his personal best but the fish looks 10lbs in this photo. Great thread, I love fall photos of big fish. Here is my personal best, a Simcoe 7. I should photoshop out the old sponsor... -
Great job landing swifty! Now you can justify owning that huge net.

If anyone finds a police boat that is outfitted with the proper HP rated engine please let me know. Hard to find HP stickers on those boats. Last one I looked at should have been powered by a 75hp, engine installed looked like nothing under 150hp. Of course they don't need to worry about insurance, just loosing the boat off the trailer in public. Please complete the Darwin awards application before launching your new Starcraft rocket.

So today was the Second Sucks event on Rice Lake and let me say if your looking for a great event this is it. Wonderful weather, good friends and the dinner after the fishing was excellent. Ron fished with Chris Giles today and they managed a great weight, to finish in second place. The fun of this event is that second place cleans fish for the dinner. Some walleye were donated by the anglers and after some complaining and beer the boys broke out the knives and clean up some fish. They also won big fish for the day. Good job on the fishing and I didn't have any bones in my walleye fillets.

I stopped by today, some nice brown trout mixed in with the chinooks waiting to move upstream.

We pointed out this fact to the Justice of the Peace. It took three municipal police and three By-law commissionairs almost four hours to issue one ticket that had two mistakes. In defence of the police, it's not their issue and they did not want to be involved. Hopefully the Town council sees the light and withdraws these by-laws.
-
Thanks Ron. It was interesting to see the Justice of the Peace's reaction when we mentioned the seeking of associated costs with future charges being issued to any angler under this by-law and how the town is "in our opinion" violating the Fish and Wildlife Act by interfering with anglers lawfully fishing in the provincial waterway of the Cobourg Harbour. Next up is the Town council and presenting this information to them and offer in good faith to remove these flawed by-laws pertaining to fishing the Cobourg Harbour. Good job Ron for all you are doing to bring this to public awareness. It is not without personal expense and effort. Today alone was lost wages, gas and a $50.00 fee for a copy of the court transcript. Before this is done I would like to see public support on this issue from our outdoor angling groups. The voice of Ontario anglers should not be left to one angler defending his rights. Organizations who provide letters of support before Sept 12, 2011 will have them included in our presentation to the Town Council. Anglers are voters and we should all support efforts to preserve our access to public waters. Big thumbs up to you Ron. We need an OFC award for you and others who lead by example.

Wal-Mart donates 36 Million to Anti-Fishing Groups
Michael_Brown replied to Michael_Brown's topic in General Discussion
Some believe in a movement in big business communities, to privatize marine resources and then lease back fishing rights for their profit and control of the fisheries management. I'm not sure I would go that far but they are not exactly donating 36 million to organizations that support anglers and our rights. -
It was a great day all around and the smiles were non-stop for father and son. One of those days that a world class fishery is "on" and special things happen.

Check out this article from award winning writer, Gord Pyzer about the big smallmouth my buddy Frank landed recently on Simcoe. http://outdoorcanada.ca/13883/blogs/on-the-water-online/stunning-simcoe-smallmouth

There are lots of Mooneye in the Ottawa river system. We have fished there for a few years and always catch a couple. We now know the Ontario Record for Mooneye is 1.43 lbs caught in the Rainy River system. http://www.ofah.org/fishresources/index.cfm?ID=7 Below is a photo of one we caught and cut up for catfish bait shortly after photo. It was over 2lbs. We did land some nice channel cats using the chunks.

First off let me thank all of the volunteers that helped make the June 11 Family Fishing Day in Bewdley a great success. Hundreds of people attended and enjoyed a fun filled day outside fishing and meeting new friends. The Minister of Tourism, Hon. Michael Chan stopped by to enjoy some fishing with the kids and filmed a TV segment with Angler and Hunter TV show host Mike Miller. The fish were biting and I'm happy to announce that these new young anglers learned quickly how to land some great fish. Every child who attended won prizes. Many Thanks to the sponsors of the festival that make this possible. Our wonderful featured charity Emmanual's Wish Foundation, raised some funds by hosting the very popular Minnow Races. But most importantly, a fun day was had by the families and friends, who attended the Rice Lake Fishing Festival Family day. Thank You Mike and Andrea

Great Job by the MNR Enforcement Team
Michael_Brown replied to Michael_Brown's topic in General Discussion
I'm pretty sure they are not on a commission basis. I sure a few of them wish they were, it would be tickets for everyone. Maybe we want to supply a couple of microwaves to help encourage more great enforcement of our resources. -
One Chuck Norris leech will deplete the walleye population in any lake otherwise go with Roy's guess.
-
Nice work Cliff. I think Beans was planning on posting the locations of all of his best walleye and crappie spots today on OFC. Maybe you could help him out by doing that for him as well.

Great Job by the MNR Enforcement Team

Hey Cliff I agree. I have a very big issue with the fact that the sale of live crappie is allowed under a very limited number of commercial licenses in this province. This is a whole different issue and something I would love to discuss sometime with whoever makes these decisions. I have big issues with the pet trade imports as well but don't get me started. Place big restrictions on the bait industry but allow these other forms of invasive fish introductions to go unchecked. A limit of 30 is very fair but some will always break the rules. With this kind of issue it is far to easy to pass the buck and say it was some other group. Fact is poaching is a problem all anglers oppose and I'm glad some took the time to call in the complaints to put an end to the abuse. Credit paid where credit is due and the CO's earn the respect we have for them. -

Restaurant? Did you want to explain this comment? Nothing but a post about a few jerks being caught and fined. Poachers come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Poor taste jokes are not appreciated. -
I always love to see the results from our hard working CO's in the province. Our resources are there for all to share but you must follow the rules. Over Limit Of Black Crappie Costs Anglers $2,700 NEWS June 6, 2011 Three anglers have been fined a total of $2,700 for catching and keeping more Black Crappie than allowed with an Ontario Sport Fishing Licence. Zhong Dong Ye, Xiang Rong Huang and Ke Yong Yang of Markham pleaded guilty and were fined $900 each for possessing a total of 54 more than the permitted limit of fish. The court heard that on April 15, 2011, a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer inspected the anglers as they were leaving Sturgeon Lake, just north of the town of Lindsay, after a day of fishing. The officer was following up on a call to the MNR TIPS line. The anglers had 144 Black Crappie between them, while the legal limit was 30 fish each. Justice of the Peace Dianne J. Ballam heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Lindsay, on May 27, 2011. For further information on fishing regulations, please consult the 2011 Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary, available at ServiceOntario/Government Information Centres, licence issuers and at ontario.ca/fishing. To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). I don't want to hijack this thread but this needs said. If you catch a pike in Rice Lake during any season, please retain the fish and notify the Ministry of Natural Resources, with the time of catch and the most accurate details of location that you can provide. Pike are considered invasive to Rice Lake and precautions should be taken to prevent their spread. Please ensure that you have caught a pike and not a resident muskie as the fish are similar in appearance. http://www.muskiescanada.ca/images/ktd_sign_large.jpg Regardless of how you view pike as a gamefish, it is generally accepted that they are harmful when introduced to watersheds where they are not native. In particular they have a negative impact on resident musky populations. Muskies Canada and OFAH Invasive Species program would also be interested in this information.
