http://www.worldfishingnetwork.com/users/gord-pyzer/blog/ontario-fishing-report-walleyes-walleyes-everywhere-105092.aspx While there was a little mix up about the size of the bluegill that was caught by Lily from a dock in Bewdley it is a very good article from award winning outdoor author, Gord Pyzer. The monster tagged blugill is still swimming around trying not to get caught. The one in the photo is close to 10 inches and was caught last week.

"enter premises in contravention of the Trespass to Property Act for the purpose of hunting or fishing;" The enter premises section seems to indicate the land is not pubic but private. I would look into who owns the lands this is posted on and if it is indeed public land than it would be infringing on your rights as a citizen and angler. Ron we need to go for a coffee or evening walleye fish, before your big excursion north. I will bring some paperwork for your review.

There are lots of reasons but generally lakes with big panfish have excellent habitat, food resources and fertile. Not always the case but some lakes are just better suited to different species.

Always is a great experience and there is no end to the fun when families go fishing together. Thanks to all who have attended our Family days so far this year. One more to go on June 11 at Bewdley, 10-4. Come out to meet Minister of Tourism, Michael Chan. You might end up on the Angler and Hunter TV show as new host Mike Miller will be at the event filming. Plus a tagged prize fish was caught Thursday afternoon off one of the docks in Bewdley. I have it on good information that there are a few more in the area. get you button but more important, grab the family and get out fishing together.

Lots of fun today at the family fishing day in Hastings. Proud to say we had dozens of "First Fish" caught again. After watching literally hundreds of people, young and old catch their first, I can honestly say it is a thrill that never diminishes. Thanks to all who attended. Mike and Andrea.

Congratulations to Lilly from Bewdley! The lucky angler caught the Rice Lake Fishing Festival tagged prize fish #27, to win a $500 prize package from DENNIS SAVERY'S REMAX EASTERN REALTY. The prize sunfish was caught off a dock in Bewdley this afternoon and she checked in to BJ Tackle to claim her prize. That's two prize fish claimed in the festival so far and both by the ladies. Come on guys time to stepped and catch your tagged prize. Don't forget all the great draw prizes you are entered into by getting your button. You might win a new outboard motor from McGregor Bay Marina. http://www.ricelakespringfishingfestival.ca/?q=node/224

Ron would be the bear and Cobourg council should quash these by-laws before they damage their angling based tourism and public image. A lot of voters fish.

Glad you could join us. It was a fun day for lots of families and yes the fish were biting. We have another family fishing day this Saturday in Hasting from 10-4. Get your button there are 49 tagged prize fish still swimming around Rice Lake.

This Pike Kill tournament will have little to no effect on the pike populations in the lake. They might catch 20-30 fish and if they are within the limits, it unfortunately is legal. Not really a great idea but whatever makes them happy I guess. Once an invasive species has established a population it is almost impossible to get rid of them and certainly not by angling. Remember the vast majority of pike in the lake are 3 inches long not 3 feet. Good luck catching, cleaning and eating those. The bass will probably eat more young pike than the other way around.

Good thing your bringing her along. At least the family will get some fish. I will have a prize for her and all other kids when they land a fun Rice Lake fish.

They have signs posted stating No Fishing By-Law 79-91. That is not what they charged Ron with. If they cannot issue a fine under by-law 79-91 take down the signs. I'm here to help, please provide the court date, when available.

Giant Northern Pike - My PB Crushed!

Get off my spot! Nice fish Aaron. -
Reading the posting it is the "As deemed advisable" section that annoys me. BY WHO? I will state this again they are not banning any other user group from accessing this area. By ONLY banning fishing they are selectively discriminating against anglers and yes I am offended. The town allows and has allowed large groups of anglers to fish daily, the rivers and shorelines in Cobourg. They enjoy the monetary benefits of the tourism this angling activity brings to the community. They are selectively choosing to implement a by-law when they desire, which also shows discrimination against a person. (Ron) I will personally attest to having fished Factory creek and the park areas numerous times in full view of all enforcement agencies and have never been questioned or had this by-law mentioned. Anyone else? http://www.ohrc.on.ca/en/resources/Guides/GuideHRcode2/pdf Someone please start a e-petition that we can sign to show support of this issue. It will go a long way to support a claim of group discrimination. This is wrong and needs corrected. Ron will need more that a few emails, so lets all help out with our support. Besides, I have fished with Ron and he wasn't harming any fish.(possibly worms )

The part of this By-Law that is most disturbing is that the land around the harbour is a municipal park. The Marina in fact only controls a portion of the harbour yet they are trying to ban fishing in the entire area. You are allowed to walk your dog, fly your kite, sit and drink a coffee or anything else you feel like except fishing. dis·crim·i·na·tion [ di skrìmmə náysh'n ] Definition: 1. treating people differently through prejudice: unfair treatment of one person or group, usually because of prejudice about race, ethnicity, age, religion, or gender If the land was off limits for all user groups than possible it could be considered fair. I have not seen Ron's tax statement but I assume he pays his share of municipal tax and therefore should be considered a member of the group that control the property. It should also be noted that the marina owner is also a council member. These types of by-law limit access to angling for everyone and should always be questioned or if allowed will continue to grow. Why can't the anglers of Cobourg fish on public land in public water? Good for you Ron. I got your back.

http://www.ricelakespringfishingfestival.ca/?q=node/222 The first tagged fish of the Rice Lake Fishing Festival was caught today. Get your festival button and get fishing on Rice Lake for your chance at thousands of dollars of great prizes. Good Luck!

Great to see you getting the kids out for some family fun. The fishing has been awesome on Rice this weekend. We had our family fishing day at Golden Beach resort and everyone was catching fish. Good luck, hope you catch a tagged fish.

Try a 3/8 ounce black bucktail jig around deep weed edges in 8-12 feet of water. You will also catch fish on crankbaits cast along the edges as well but the jig is usually a more consistent bait. BJ Tackle in Bewdley has festival buttons, so if you catch a tagged prize fish you will win a great prize. Button purchase also enters you into the festival draws at the end of the event. Good Luck.

I have been getting reports from anglers fishing the festival over the last couple of days that the walleye bite is dynamite right now. The rainy start to the week slowed the action but the last couple of days have turned the fish on and I have heard of 50-70 fish days for several groups. Get your button, grab your rod and get out on Rice Lake. Sounds like everything is pointing to a great long weekend. If your in the area don't forget the family fishing day tomorrow May 21 from 10-4 at Golden Beach Resort. Family fun and smiles available to everyone.

If your on Rice Lake tomorrow watch for the Barry Pringle, host of the exciting new fishing show "Fish This" on OLN, they are here filming an episode about the great spring fishing. We filmed a segment about the festival in the Boathouse Restaurant at Golden Beach Resort, awesome fish dinner. Nothing like fresh crappie and walleye done by a quality chef. They are out on the lake tomorrow hunting down a prize tagged fish and enjoying the amazing spring bite for walleye and panfish on Rice Lake.

Nice report. Love to see families out fishing together.

The Town of Pembroke, Ottawa river offers some of the best channel catfish action anywhere. Not the real monsters like Dunnville but it can be non-stop action and good shore access. For me the best bait is hands down frozen mackeral chunks. The skin is tough and stays on the hook, the bait is oily and if they is a catfish around it will eat this. Just get a frozen mackeral at the grocery store and cut small steaks about 1 inch thick.

Zone 17 Walleye Opener this Sat
Michael_Brown replied to BucktownAngler's topic in General Discussion
I will be at Rice Lake trying to give away over $69,000 in prizes. http://www.ricelakespringfishingfestival.ca/ The panfish bite was hot this past weekend and the walleye seem to be everywhere. This is going to be a very good weekend for fishing Rice Lake. Harrison bring some pain medicine, those big Rice Lake walleyes will try to rip your arms off if you keep jerking that bait. Find a weedline in 6-10 feet of water, throw a jig or crankbait and hold on. -
Hi Catfish: Welcome to the site. You will find that you have moved into fishing paradise. We are surrounded by amazing fisheries and there are hundreds of lakes all within a 2 hour drive of you. To the north of you is Lake Simcoe which is a big waterbody that holds some great fish. East will land you in the Kawartha's with numerous productive lakes. Try Rice Lake for great numbers of multiple species, including non-stop carp action if your interested. Pigeon, Chemong, Scugog, Balsam, etc. We tend to get spoiled living here and forget all the great fishing we have right at our doorstep. If you want to try for some trout and salmon, the numerous creeks and rivers that enter Lake Ontario are nearby and easy to fish. Niagra Falls isn't just for looking at it offers dynamite fishing in the area. If you like big rivers, check out the St. Lawerence east of Kingston, lots of action and area to fish. Have fun but keep us posted around here because most of us like hearing about and sharing good fishing.
