  1. There are some excellent resorts that offer camping in addition to cottages and trailers. Check out the Rice Lake Fishing Festival website for more information. http://www.ricelakespringfishingfestival.ca/?q=packages I know Tower Manor Lodge, Alpine Resort, Silver Leaf and Golden Beach resort offer camping and are all in perfect locations to access the fantastic walleye fishing on Rice Lake. If you have not fished Rice lake much in the last couple of years your missing out. The walleye fishing has been amazing. The lake seems to be full of 2-3lb fish. Plus if you come up in the spring during the festival you just might catch one of the tagged prize fish for your chance at $69,000.00 in prizes.
  2. And More... $6,000 in Fines and Suspension for Fishing Offences NEWS April 1, 2011 An Oshawa man has been fined a total of $6,000 after being convicted of two fishing related offences and had his fishing licence suspended for four years. Norman McPhaden pleaded guilty to possessing an over limit of Rainbow trout and Pacific salmon and possessing fish that were packaged in such a manner the species could not be identified. On November 2, 2010, conservation officers responded to a complaint regarding McPhaden being in possession of an over limit of trout. During the investigation several packages of frozen pieces of fish were located. It was estimated by the ministry that McPhaden was in possession of approximately 90 trout and salmon. The combined limit for these species is only five. Justice of the Peace John MacDonald heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Whitby, on March 29, 2011. To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
  3. Covert Fishing Enforcement Blitz Leads To Charges NEWS March 30, 2011 The Ministry of Natural Resources laid 25 charges and seized 52 whitefish during a series of covert enforcement blitzes on Lake Simcoe. As a result of public complaints, conservation officers from the Midhurst District enforcement unit were on the ice during the first two weeks of March checking for compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and the Ontario Fishery Regulations for species such as lake trout, whitefish and yellow perch. Officers were able to covertly monitor angler activity and, as a result, 25 charges were laid for violations related to taking over-limits of fish. Although the daily sport limit for catch and retain whitefish is only two fish per person, one angler had six whitefish in his vehicle while another caught and retained seven whitefish. For further information about fishing regulations, please consult the 2011 Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary, available at ServiceOntario/Government Information Centres, licence issuers and at ontario.ca/fishing. To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact Midhurst District at 705-725-7500 during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
  4. And I thought it was my fault. I was thinking I will have to avoid posting my pictures in the future. Glad the ship is heading in the proper direction again. Good work.
  5. I've been catching them in open water for two weeks now. You just need to know where to look but that is always the case. Good Luck.
  6. Oh, did I mention the family fun. The lovely bride and little man stopped in to help us this year.
  7. So if you want to help out next year, prepare to get wet but have a lot of fun. Also plan on seeing some big gorgeous rainbows on their way upstream to provide us fun for years to come.
  8. The famous Ron was hard at it all day but he seemed confused as he went back and forth 40 feet in the same spot all morning, on the ATV. Most importantly a lot of families and their kids stopped by and learned about Rainbow trout and their spring spawning run.
  9. Well it was a fantastic day, for weather, friends and fish. Thank you to everyone who help out with the successful lifting of 200 rainbows over the dam in Cobourg Creek. We saw some gorgeous fish. This will take a couple of posts to show photos of the great fun had by all involved.
  10. The water is about 40 degrees. This should read. "Coffee, Coffee and more coffee"
  11. I'm in as always. This is something I look forward to each spring.
  12. Sign in the Pickering area. Taken down after a couple of weeks... maybe working on translation.
  13. Of course no matter how many time the pictures are posted, some people still believe everything they see on the internet.
  14. I always have like the Muskie Member Polar plunge. The leaf fan is cute.
  15. I would find this hard to believe but I will look into it. This lift has been going on for years and has helped maintain a decent fishery in Cobourg. Tons of work and effort by a great group of volunteers.
  16. Well sounds like it has been two great days at the show so far and the busy weekend is ahead. It has been great to hear all the positive feedback about the Rice Lake Festival, looks like it is going to be a great spring. If anyone wants a Festival poster to put up in your shop our elsewhere drop by and grab some. I will have English and Chinese versions with me tomorrow. Thanks to anyone who helps spread the word.
  17. I will be around tomorrow after lunch, sat and Sunday. Drop by the Rice Lake Festival booth for a chat. It is behind the Tightlines store display and close to Lures and Tours. Sounds like its busy down there today but that's what happens when I send my lovely bride and sunshine girl daughter down to look after the booth. I'm not sure why that happens...
  18. What are the odds the card shows up for'Dick Obanion. Next season you will need several licenses, could get expensive. Richard, Rick, Dick, Rich if you get the three year regular license for everyone should be around $1000.00
  19. Hey Solo: I actually ended up with a day at home. The lovely bride and daughter are heading to work at the show today. They are probably more interesting anyway. I will be back for Fri, Sat, and Sunday.
  20. Great Day today. Nice to meet some of the OFC clan. Between talking about the festival all day, checking out the latest tackle, boats and electronics (Radioworld ), I ready to go fishing...come on spring.
  21. Packing things up and heading to the show for the rest of the week. Drop in for a chat, ask questions, buy a button or just talk about fishing Rice Lake this spring. Great discounts on accommodations and boat rentals with many of the Rice Lake Tourist Association members offering special festival rates from May 14-June 19 during the Rice Lake Spring Fishing Festival. I will be in our booth #454 in the fishing section. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
  22. Now that he knows where it lives, you will probably see him holding that fish on a stage this summer. That's all he needs is another big bass spot on Rice Lake.
  23. We tried a new spot and it worked out. We caught a bluegill for Ben's Panfish Derby which won second place for Steve Hatton. Chris caught this bucket and I straightened the hook out on something large as well. Those little panfish baits get beat up by big fish in the winter. A nice little surprise.
  24. http://www.mcgregorbaymarina.com/ These are very good motors. We have one as a tagged fish prize for the Rice Lake Spring Fishing Festival provided by McGregor Bay marine. If the tagged fish is not caught during the festival we will be drawing a lucky participant and giving away a new 9.8 Tohatsu motor.
  25. While fishing for panfish today on Rice Lake. Chris hooked up to a chunk of a largemouth. Close to a 5lb bucket. Quick photo and back down the hole. Good fight for a sluggish winter fish.
