  1. Insane. I hope the police find him and charge him with something. If they don’t there is something very wrong. It shouldn’t take much sleuthing to match up the boat ID that is visible to a short list of boats and narrow down quickly. Looks like a Baja to me, but who knows.
  2. You can’t reel in a fish and raise a manual rigger at the same time. I fished Scotty manuals for 10 years and lost a lot of fish trying to do both. Walkers now. I wish they were Scotty electrics though. Walkers are fine but Scotty is nicer
  3. I agree. Don't let your Possession and Acquisition licence go un-renewed. If you do, you have to start over with a full RCMP application, and take the CFAC course again.
  4. Guys, I neglected to renew my Firearms License a few years back and unfortunately my firearms safety course 45 or so years ago is no longer recognized, so the RCMP have told me I need to take the CFAC before my licence will be approved. A bit of a pain, but I understand the reasoning - I guess. Problem is that the CFAC courses were all shut down for COVID and there is an enormous backlog and its been hard to find a course with an opening anywhere near home (Oakville ) or our cottage (Penetang). If any of you know anyone that is accredited to teach the CFAC, can you help me out? The RCMP told me that they can extend the deadline for my application expiring given the COVID issues, but I want to get this done ASAP. Thanks
  5. Is it my imagination or are the fish skinnier this year than in the past? We went through a few years on Georgian Bay when the salmon were very skinny. Things have come back and now they seem fatter on the Bay. for the past couple years. I have yet to get one in 2020 but I am hearing that they are nice and fat again up here.
  6. So when I saw your post last week, I jumped in the car and headed to Sobeys. I forgot how big a whole brisket is. Those vacuum packed whole briskets at 4.99 looked great, but no way I can eat 20lbs of brisket. But they had cut pieces for a bit more, so I got a nice $30 slab for smoking on Canada Day. thanks for the tip. I plan to smoke it for about 3 hrs, then wrap in foil and leave it for another 10 hrs or so overnight at some low temp, Hopefully will be awesome like the last one I did..
  7. I lived in Sudbury for years and travelled to Kirkland Lake area several times a year. Most of the lakes up there have some fish. There are a few that hold brook trout too, if you can find the ones with streams in and out. A lot of them are hard to fish with floating brush at the edges. And some are just dead ponds with nothing but frogs and minnows.
  8. I am now slipped in a marina. I don't miss the launch ramp lunatics. You should print out a bunch of copies of "launch ramp rules and etiquette" and hand them out. It was likely a new boat owner (or an obliviot) and that might help speed things up the next time. Or not.... On the opposite end of the spectrum, I was at a three lane ramp once and had just arrived at the top of the ramp and was getting the boat unchained and ready to back in. (yes I was 100% prepped in advance. this was simply untying the stern tie downs, removing the bow chain and backing off the tension on the winch strap.). This dork backed down at an angle between the back of my boat and the water, dumped his POS bowrider and tied it to the dock on my side. I had to wait for him to boat away before i could launch. I thought about untying his boat while he parked, but let it go. He stunk like booze and I thought nothing good would come of it.
  9. Ok, so am I the only one that is feeling old looking at these guys? That's a lot of years on the water right there. Any idea when each of them had their first show on TV? I think I watched all of them.
  10. Ok, lets get this started. They are great. They are adjustable size. If you buff them up they go from small to large. The only problem is that cold water in spring makes that effect only last for the first cast, and then they need to be buffed up again.
  11. So our marina can prep for launch, but for most of us that do all our own prep, we still can't go to the marina to get things ready. No way I will let them launch my boat without me being there to make sure its properly prepped, properly tied up, canvas on properly, charger on. So I will have to wait. they won't even let me go get my dinghy off the bow so I could at least get on the water with that at the cottage. Sooooo frustrating
  12. I played around with it a bit, but to be honest, I doubt I will use it. Its "pretty" and might be useful for planning and exploring but not while on the water IMO. the blue masks contour lines in bright sunlight . I find the Sonarchart view very useful though, especially in areas that are well charted.
  13. I vaguely recall someone was looking for large wall display lures? Saw this on Kijiji http://www.kijiji.ca/v-fishing-camping-outdoor/oakville-halton-region/giant-rapala-lures-for-display/1471327227?undefined
  14. Very sad. Have been reading his stuff for years. Condolences to his family and friends. RIP. F-Cancer
  15. Looks to me like a baby bowfin.
  16. MY son got me the same camera for Xmas. I have not tried it yet in the water. Looks decent.
  17. Has anyone ordered through Cabela's on-line recently and what was the experience? I ordered a new rod through them and delivery is supposed to be today according to their on line site order tracker that says it was shipped Tuesday. The on-line site says its coming Fedex but Fedex does not seem to have the tracking number in their system, so seems odd. Also, the credit card charge has not come through, which is really odd. I have never bought anything that gets shipped before payment is charged to the card.
  18. BMW X5. Was the most I will ever pay for a vehicle and was the worst by far. It was in for repair at least 6 times a year. Engine work, transmissions, air bag suspension, electronics, radiator cracking, hoses failing, auto mirrors, water leaks, oil leaks, current drains, interior parts falling off/warping, gremlin that turned on the interior lights and door alarm on damp days like the door was opened, even while driving. The list goes on. I was too stupid to sell it when the warranty ended, but that didn't last long. On its last trip to the dealer to replace a $400 coolant overflow they gave me a list of service items that totaled over $9,000 (not a typo). Basically most of the seals in the engine and tranny, suspension bushings and a bunch of other stuff. That is for a 7 year old vehicle. Too late I said, its sold! (to a guy that shipped it to Beirut). Leason learned.
  19. Pretty slim in my opinion. The chance of one or the other happening is not too low. But, the chance of both happening together is very unlikely. Like someone said above. The best reason to have an auto inflate is that you may actually wear it all the time. The full PDF you will not. I fish solo a lot and I wear my auto inflate while I am on the boat. I have Mustang and Nautilus. The mustangs fit nicer. Sometime after a long day on the water, I get back to the truck to drive home and realize I am still wearing it. LOL.
  20. If you went to the Pacific Mall and a guy said he needed to take your credit card into the back room for a little while, would you let him? PayPal for all on line purchases.. ALthough, at the recommendation of a banker, I got one of the free RBC credit cards and put a low limit on it. I use that card if I buy something cheap and the seller does not take Paypal. No big deal if I have to cancel that card, and its helpful to have a back up card in case something ever goes wrong and I have to cancel the other one.
  21. Saw this on another forum. http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/wildlife-home/post/ohio-wildlife-council-approves-3rd-fishing-line-for-lake-erie-ohio-river As long as they don't increase the limits it won't impact anything. I don't know why they don't allow 2 rods per person on Georgian Bay except that it is a way to have limits that are very hard to reach. If would be nice to have a 2 rod rule on G-Bay.
  22. Interesting. They have a striped bass population in Lake Champlain so presumably they tolerate colder freshwater. Lake Ontario's pelagic's seem to be in good shape so there would be forage for another species maybe. I wonder if there were Stripers that are now extinct (i.e., they would not be considered invasive).
  23. Those saltwater cats have toxin and bacteria on their spines and you can get a very nasty infection from them. I avoid handling them at all (I take a boga grip and long pliers, or just cut the hook off if its deep). I love it when we rent a house that has kayaks. Even when they are not fishing ones, you can grab some shrimp or squid and head out and catch lots of fish. Just make sure you have a license if you go out on the water. And know the regulations. There are size limits and seasons and the FWC is not lenient.
  24. Only Shell's premium Nitro+ has no ethanol. All the lower grades have ethanol. All gas companies are required to blend a total minimum of 10% ethanol in the total volume they sell in Canada. The lower grades get the most (usually more than 10 and up to 15%). Mid grade is probably blended around 10% and the premium may have no ethanol. Shell does advertise that their premium has no ethanol. So if you want to buy gas at the pumps with no ethanol, you have to buy premium grade. Marina's normally sell ethanol free gas only (ours does)
  25. I have always run my little 8hp Yamaha 2 stroke dry for winter. If its running, it getting oil/fuel and it dies when the oil/fuel runs out. So I am not worried about it not getting oil for the last split second while it dies. Its been 10 years and no issues. BUT, last year I made the mistake of not filling up the portable fuel tank before winter. It sat in the shed for the winter withonly about a gallon of fuel in it. Filled it up in the spring and it ran like crap. There was a lot of condensation water that built up in the tank over winter. Had to flush the tank, change the filter and run sea foam through it to get it running right. So lesson is that you should leave the tank full and stabilized over winter.
