  1. My dad fished a Luxor just like the one on the right in the last photo all through the 50 and 60's. the rod was also a Pezon et Michel tubular metal
  2. I used 8 lb mainline back in the 80's when we fished light leader material, but since I upped my leader breaking strength I use 10 lb now as I don't like losing floats and my whole terminal set up. Theoretically a 6/7lb leader should break before a 8 lb mainline but not always the case.
  3. Side casting limper works better Trilene XL or Blue Stren is good for a bit of visibility, Wallis casting I tend to like a bit stiffer line, Trilene XT , 10 lb test is good.
  4. I feather too but use the tip of my index finger of the hand holding the rod lightly against the forward rim of the spool to slow the line coming off. Helps in heavy winds too to avoid excess belly in the line while casting. Only works when the bail is still open though
  5. I am at a loss as to how closing the bail manually will give you more control casting or reduce line twist Casting lures I will close by turning the handle often fishing live bait I fish with the bail open and the line resting in the crook of my index finger for feel, then I close manually to set the hook.
  6. Personally , I don't like pour in expanding foam in an aluminum boat. Nasty if you ever have to remove it for a repair, bonds to the hull so that if any water gets in the boat under the floor it won't drain to the back properly, seems to be a source of corrosion if wet and bonded to the hull, make mine cut to measure foam boards.
  7. I think you may be thinking of GCD , don't think I ever saw a pic of him with a shirt on Saw this on iboats a while back, he 's using a new alias but same old pics
  8. We must be the same age , pretty well matches my recollections except our 3 room elementary had no basement. I was a little more tuned in as a kid because in 58/59 Dad spent a year working as a civilian in Winisk on the Mid Canada Line, early warning radar installations.
  9. yes , very nice buck, 220 and that would be field dressed looks about right.
  10. I was always taught to look for white spots on the liver of bunnies over 50 years ago.
  11. Crap don't flow upstream, no US below Montreal. There is also a 7500 litre leak of fuel from a cruise ship now too down around Quebec City.
  12. Probably a bit over a hundred now that the dollar is at 75 cents, but the Daiwa Tournament SS1300 is one you won't wear out in a season.
  13. I do lots of stew meat, love venison stew
  14. I'm with Chris ......makes about as much sense as guessing a person's weight by shoe size " Honest officer the tail width said it should have been in the slot "
  15. unless it was a huge military type drone the recoil would knock it out of the sky
  16. Couple of long time buds of mine were International Federation of Fly Fishers certified casting instructors at that time , They joke about the movie and how much business it brought them. They both are still heavily involved with fly fishing since we all retired from the same place, me, not so much unfortunately.
  17. I hazard to guess how many Yuppies went out and spent mega bucks on top of the line fly fishing gear after that movie and most of it is sitting idle ten years later. I confess to watching the Jeremiah Johnson movie back in the early 70's and ended up with 3 Hawken type muzzleloaders , but I did use them for many years during the controlled deer hunt, probably racked up about 18 deer with them, lot of good memories including my first deer ever with them.
  18. In several jurisdictions it is illegal to big game hunt the same day as you are in the air to discourage aerial spotting. Looks like drones are a way of circumventing that rule and should be banned as well.
  19. Here is one for Remembrance Day, very early Gordon Lightfoot when he performed solo, It was recorded live at a Club in Cleveland in 65 and probably written in 63. Remember this was at a time when all the folk singers were protesting the Vietnam War, but Gord takes a much more realistic view. http://www.bigomagazine.com/TRKSB1/GLcleve/GLcleve04.mp3
  20. I wish the tom that backs up to and sprays my tires on the Jeep would be there when I backed up
  21. I agree, but deer fat is like mutton , tallowy, tongue stick to the roof of your mouth stuff, I add beef suet to venison ground meat and pork shoulder to sausage, leaving the deer fat for suet feeders for the birds.
  22. With the warm nights if anyone has to get a deer to the cooler quick, this is basically how I used to do it, I find the flavour of venison better deboned with no fat, marrow bone or silver skin while cooking.
  23. 65 F at 5 am here, crazy for deer season.

  24. If catch and release angling is not harassing wildlife I seriously doubt this would be.
  25. Nice big doe, same way I started 40 some years ago. Congrats
