Home sick today and watched the mens hockey game. Could have easily been 10 to 1. I have a few hours of snowblowing to do in the morning and hope to catch the noon game tomorrow.

Thoroughly enjoyed those Wayne. What camera did you use and where was it mounted? And where did you get that 40 blade prop??

Another NF Hydro One topic - Late/no bills.
danc replied to Rod Caster's topic in General Discussion
Hydro (g)one has to be the most corrupt businesses on the planet. The g in front of the one comes frm a buddy that works there. Hydro gone. We have perhaps the best power producing means anywhere and we get screwed over and over. We have tons of flowing water for hydroelectric power. We are central for shipment of coal. We are located next to miles and miles of huge waterbodys for nuclear cooling. We have it all. Yet our power bills are amongst the highest on the continent. I hate hydro one. -
If I'm running a 60 hp, which I do, it's going to be on some decent size water. I'll take "Windshields for $10.00 please Alex". DING DING DING!! Daily Double. Whats the best thing ever for running across a lake at 30+ mph? That would be a windshield.

Happy with my Viking too.

I'm pretty sure that all gas appliances in Ontario have clearance to combustables and service clearances on the rating plate. It's not simply a matter of how far does a water tank have to be from a wooden wall? It's brand specific as well. One brand may require an inch while another may require a foot.

I'm looking for an ice fishing tip, stocked lakers
danc replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
I used to ice fish on a similar sounding lake and found that we'd have 10 minutes or so of non stop action, followed by 2 or three hours of nothing. This would repeat throughout the day. I'm pretty sure that being such a small lake, the fish simply swam the perimeter of the lake in a school, and when they got to our baits we'd catch them. Then it took them another 2 or 3 hours for them to circle the lake I'm guessing. Probably not much help Chris, but that's my theory. Stay put and be patient. -

They're all pretty good these days. See a pattern here? Everyone is happy with whatever they own. Go with the best deal. -
Glad you're enjoying your winter Joey. Nice report.

Brook Trout Tagging for the 2013 Season
danc replied to Guidofisherman's topic in General Discussion
The catch rate per hour can vary greatly Glen. I've been there for 3 days and caught nothing on the first two days, and 20 fish on the third day, or vice versa. And these fish aren't starving. The ecosystem on Nipigon is amazing. There's a smorgasbord for fish out there. While camping there last summer, I took my flashlight down to the lake one evening and what I saw was amazing. In a 5 foot x 5 foot area, I saw 60 or so crayfish and about 30 or 40 minnows. Crayfish were fighting minnows and other crayfish. Minnows were taking shots at each other. What an amazing sight. And then there's the smelts. A friend caught and kept an 18" Brook Trout (when it was legal to do so. 22" now), and it had 13 smelts in its belly. So no. They're not starving. -

I have no opinion on this, but something to keep in mind is that mono absorbs water and expands. I left a fly reel in the water once and the mono backing expanded and blew the fly reel apart like it was made out of plastic. It was a very expensive reel too.

Another thing about this entire thing is that WD proclaims himself as a master at everything. He doesn't trust anyone else's work, but assures that whatever he does will be done with expertise. The phrase "jack of all trades but master of none" rings a bell here. I don't know anyone who is a journeyman at every trade. I'd be weary too about buying the kind of property that he's talking about. Renovated by a fly by night guy. -

The old saying "a shoemaker wears the most worn out shoes", or something like that, has many truths. I've installed well over 1000 residential furnaces in my time, yet my own was chicken wired together to keep the old girl running. On Christmas day 3 years ago my ventor motor was vibrating so bad that it shook the whole house. Half of the blades on the squirrel cage were gone. Ouch. So I balanced it the best that I could and replaced the furnace myself between Christmas and new years day. I was working away from home at the time and if the old gal decided to calf while I was away it would have cost me 5 grand to replace. Doing it myself cost me $1300.00. Bottom line I guess is that yes, I can do that. But trying to find the time is another thing. -
Always enjoy your input OI. Well said.

I use pretty light gear most of the time simply because 99% of my fishing is for Brook Trout. The size of the fish will dictate how long I take to get it to the boat. A 12 inch fish I will skip across the waters surface and get him back in asap. A 24 inch fish? Not a chance. Occasionally we'll hook into a mid 40 inch Pike or Lake Trout. Not coming in too quick with 6 lb. test. Longest battle that I've witnessed was about 45 minutes. It was a 34 lb. Laker on 6 lb. test. No stress on the fish at all. In fact it didn't even know it was hooked for the first 44 minutes. It would have smashed the c&r world record by about 7 lbs. last time I checked.

Minor strokes (which this was) are pretty common. I know at least 5 people that have had them in the past 5 years, including my life partner. All is well now with all of them.

I honestly don't know how they can get insurance with the amount of them that I see in the ditches and on their side. Not only is the rig wrecked but the goods that they're carrying must be a write off too.
