I love my portable humminbird but I also use garmin and eagle graphs all the time. All 3 have never let me down..... If you aren't partial to one brand look for the best deal and I do use the suction cup sometimes...Other times I use a similiar setup to what Solo explained with the clamps. TDunn

Bingo!! I was out yesterday with some clients for pike. We managed a whack of fish but it was a day full of short strikes. I had them chucking inline spinners, spoons and jerkbaits. I took a dozen or so casts throughout the day with a popper. No strikes, swirls...nothing...Still to early here for a good topwater bite but I would think it is game time in southern Ontario. Stick with it, next weekend might be a different story for you. Our pike are just off spawn by the looks of most of them yesterday. Good luck to you....Top water pike is addicting! TDunn

Awesome! I worked there about 8-9 years ago. Im pretty sure it has changed ownership since I was there. Ron and Dolly booth were the owners then. Your gonna have a wicked summer dude! Good perch fishing off the weedbed next to the dock aswell as pike/musky directly off the dock! Also jig the rock piles near the dock for big smallies! Im sure you'll head over to temple bay for a few beer too!!! Good luck Tyler

When I was in college I would practice in my apartment. I attached a baitcaster to one of my ice fishing rods and flipped to a target in the living room everyday, sometimes for hours. Although it feels a bit different with a long rod, I found it to be great practice for handling a baitcaster and accuracy. Just a thought..... TDunn

Ive done well on worms in snow storms during opener up here BUT definitly run a minnow on your harness. If the bite gets hot, nose hook a gulp minnow. I use them quiet often and have hit some really nice fish on them. Tie your rigs with 2 hooks. If you decide on the minnow route, just clip the second hook off. I usually pull them behind a bottom bouncer or split shot setup when "searching". Once you do get them on harnesses, pull the jig stuff out if you can! Oh, maybe another thing you can try is tying your rigs with a single hook followed by a treble for worms. It works well! edit - Sinclair just seen your post- Gulp works awesome!! Ive even used twister tails.... TDunn

thanks luc! haha Im sure you know which river I was on just by the colour! Good luck to you and jay.....we gotta hook up guys... Haha its not always like that!

Since the rivers opened up Ive been watching the flow charts like a hawk, checking the weather channel a couple of times a day and probably put over 200kms on the Highway scouting the rivers as they were dropping. Earlier this week I was able to get up north and was actually lucky enough to land two nice hens while I was there. Now that the water was dropping to much more fishable conditions, I knew the first big push of fish was underway. During the last two days I put sometime in on a trib and found a sweet spot that was holding fish all day! These were all fresh chromers just coming up from the lake. Some were sluggish in the cold water, some jumped! It was an awesome two days with a TON of fish hooked, landed and released!! Double Bush Whackin! Now I am packing my gear for a 6am departure headed for southern Ontario. Fishing my first opener so I am looking forward to this weekend and 4 days of pure steelheading! TDunn
