  1. Fatty! Both fish are nice. TDunn
  2. I had the opportunity to put in some hours on the riverbanks north and in the rapids on the St. Marys. We were hammered with over a 100mm of rain about 2 weeks ago and I was glued to the flow chart combined with a few trips north just scouting. Once the day came for my first actual fishing trip the water was still very high with some colour. Decided against the float and pulled out the St Croix to bounce some spots that have been known to produce when the water levels are up. In about 45 mins, I had landed 1 coho and had another fish take me down river out of sight (bow). I also realized I forgot my camera battery at home in the charger....Brutal.... I figured I would stick with bouncing roe but with no success in 30-40 mins, I decided to try a fresh worm. First bounce, fish on. During the next 2 hours I landed 1 nice bow and 2 decent cohos with another 3 fish taking me downriver all on worms. I actually fought one for 10 minutes and honestly thought I had won the battle before it decided to use the high and fast water to run completely out of sight. I returned to Superior’s tribs two days later and was greeted with prime conditions for floating. Bouncing gear out, float gear in. Experienced some exciting action both days catching coho’s for the most part with a hot steelhead mixed in every once in awhile. Typical coho A bunch of these guys were munching out A friend/co-worker tagged along one morning. He landed and released his first fall steelhead. Even the power in this smaller fish freaked him right out. I landed a nice chromer myself.....too bad the pic was taken on night mode... A bear snuck up on me one evening and gave me half a heart attack when I turned around. He didn't even know I was there and was basically just fooling around/playing with sticks. I shot a quick video of him from my spot in the river but its right at dark so its tough to make out... Bear Once the levels dropped, I moved shop downtown to the rapids. This place is freaking loaded with fish this time of year. Fly, float, bounce, or casting hardware will all take fish. I have been mainly casting hardware with some bouncing here and there. The pinks have calmed down. I only caught 1 pink in my last 3 outings. The kings are not far behind. Although a bunch of the fish I caught still had not spawned, most have. With this weather coming this week, I would expect the majority of Chinooks to be done spawning anytime. Most Kings are looking like this....Not very appealing but still put up a serious fight. The coho are still in good shape with silver bullets still around. I took a buddy down one morning for a couple hours. He quickly landed his first cohos ever. Also his first St Marys rapids fish. He also landed this... Pinook? I Purchased some gear this weekend at bass pro and natural sports(kitchener). Didn't buy much but I picked up some steelhead gear that I needed. After a few days off its back on the water in the am. Finishing my beer, adding the new steelhead gear into the arsenal and then to bed. Thanks for reading and more to come in the next few weeks... 11. Well, I haven’t posted a report since the atlantic season. I figured it is about time. After my last report the fishing was good for only another couple days. The atlantic bite quickly went foul this year. Ted landed the last fish of the summer season. A bunch of relatives rented a camp on a nice lake east of the Sault for a week of relaxing and fishing. I made it out for 3 days and 2 nights. We had a great time at camp and the fishing was excellent. We caught a lot of fish once we found them. GPS coordinates we had from the lakes opening weekend this spring did have fish but we found them feeding 20 feet shallower. Most fish were released but we did have 1 fish fry. Spin doctors, flashers and cowbells followed by a smelt or gulp was working awesome. My little cousin reeling his first ever fish off a downrigger All fish throughout the 3 days were 19-25" It was actually a perfect time for the St Marys to become quiet for awhile because I had a long 16 day trip planned to BC with my girlfriend. We drove from the Sault to Vancouver Island. We stayed and explored many cities such as Winnipeg, Edmonton, Banff, Jasper, Canmore, Nelson, Ucluelet and the furthest point we went was Tofino. Wicked whale watching in Tofino! A few pics from the roadtrip. Even took a few casts on the Kootenay River with a fly rod After the trip I had to put in a ton of hours at work and make some $, so I never got out for any full days for awhile. Seasons on the river were kind of in between anyway. A few hours here and there would be all including an afternoon of bass from the lower stretches of the river. I havent fished bass this year and I really enjoyed getting on a decent bass bite. 2 best of the afternoon. The Chinook season has begun and I have only been out a few times including a local derby. Although we did catch a few fish each day. Our best efforts fell about a pound short. Only 4 spots out of the money. Few salmon so far... My sister came out for an evening This past long weekend Ted and I joined another group (8 total) heading to a walleye lake just south of Chapleau. Although it was freakin freezing and really windy, we made out really well. Our boat alone landed in the triple digits numbers wise. No camps or roads to the lake only ATV access. 2 outfitters do have cabins on the lake they fly guests into. We nailed them on rocky points that were in the most windy areas. They held a ton of fish especially during the day. Every pass would yield a fish and more times than not a double header. Bottom bouncer/ spinner rig with either a gulp minnow or worm worked well. A rapala behind the bottom bouncer was also another deadly combo. Camp Alot of the fish had a blue tinge especially on the fins. Nothing like doacks report tho. I’m looking forward to the rest of the fall season. It’s time to lay a beat down in the boat and with the waders on more salmon until the steelhead arrive. TDunn
  12. Nice fish and report Doack. I'm glad you finally made it up to Chapleau. TDunn
  13. Nice win! All your hard work paid off in the end. Man, those Lake O nooks dwarf ours from the St Marys. Again, wicked fish TDunn
  14. Nice work Kinger! Some nice eyes and a wonderful atlantic. TDunn
  15. Mike, do what you feel is best for you but this is my recommendation on your issue. I own a 12 foot deep and wide mirro craft that I use for back lake fishing. I use a 5 hp honda (4stroke) or a 6 hp evinrude (2 stroke) on it. Both are painfully slow but Im not travelling much for distance usually. Now, I try and borrow my buddys 9.9 anytime I can. I'm not sure how far you plan to go but I would save your payments and buy a used 14 with a 15hp as already recommended. $2000 can get you a mint 14 footer/motor/trailer. You already have the electric for working areas. Its really now a matter of how fast you want to get there. The casting platform is going to slow you down and your ever growing tackle/rod/reel collection is gonna need room also....Don't forget the full gas tank, battery, fishfinder, cooler for drinks/food, lifejackets, safety kit and your partners gear. That 12 feet of boat can fill up quick. Ive spent a lot of time in a 12 foot boat and a 14 sometimes feels like it's 4 feet bigger rather than 2. If you stick with the 12, 9.9 2 stroke all the way! Again, this is my recommendation to you from my own experience. Whatever you do, Im sure you will be happy because either option is gonna help you catch more fish. Looking forward to your report man, take care TDunn
  16. Chapleau x2! heading in that direction in a few weeks myself!! TDunn
  17. The Voyageurs' Lodge And Cookhouse in Batchawana Bay is great. Frank runs an amazing restaurant with good accommodations to boot. Voyageurs Lodge TDunn
  18. One of the guys I fish with almost everytime I go has a 76csx and we've been using it for sometime now with no issues. Actually, you will rarely or never find us out without it in both the boat and truck. Its nice to know whats over that hill sometimes... As far as lakers go. A GPS was one of the main factors for me in gaining confidence with Lt's especially during the summer. Its amazing how many fish you can catch on one specific waypoint and 30 feet away you won't mark or catch a thing. Immediately improved my catch rate. Oh,Mapsource is the program I've been using. Ive spent hours, days maybe weeks on it searching for lakes, access points, trails and even for the elevation of hills we would encounter. Definitly a key tool to my fishing throughout the year. $197 seems like a great deal.... TDunn
  19. Agreed! Ridiculous walleyes guys! I'm looking forward to your next adventure. TDunn
  20. My GF has a really bad allergy to peanuts and peas. Its just plain scary stuff. Get yourself a few Epipens for home, work and even your boat. In the 8 years Ive known her shes only had a reaction once and it was similair to your story. Im glad your alright Phil! Tyler
