Dan, I trust your and Sis's judgement and I could be way off base here but in my experience: Border Collies are an extremely intelligent breed with an instinctive desire to work. They are also extremely energetic and require a lot of attention, but are very responsive to training. Many Border Collies end up in shelters or rescue groups because families, attracted by their appearance and intelligence, discover that they cannot provide the considerable attention and effort required for this driven, active, easily bored breed. Sue and I have tried on two occasions to rescue border collies, perhaps we just ended up with dogs that weren't suited to us or were beyond our experience. Perhaps they were both dogs with more problems than we were trained to handle. regardless, we tried very hard for both their sake and ours. In many cases, having another dog can help, providing mental and physical stimulation for both dogs. They are better off in a household that can provide them with plenty of exercise and a job to do. Like most herding breeds, they will attempt to herd family members, cats, squirrels, bicycles, cars, or anything else that moves in the absence of other charges. This might even include birds in mid-air. I am not sure that a family with four young children is a good place for this breed. I would be so happy to be proved wrong in this case and I truly hope I am for both the family and the pup! Please let us know what happens and I pray it all works out for the best!

Sam, can I have that one? Team 5 needs it for bait! Nice fish Sam!!!!!!

I don't konw all the numbers but here is what i would suggest: Fridge, lights, and heating if you aren't using wood: propane TV and other electronic things a small generator. Solar power requires big batteries; heavy expensive, prone to failure. I would love to hear more about this though as I am always ready to learn about that which I don't know much about!!!!!!!

Chill out and relax. Unless you just bought into the market in the last few weeks you are loosing what you had yesterday but you were gaining at an incredable rate anyway so you have only lost part of what you gained. Anyone who invests should be prepaired to see things like this happen, it will recover! it always does, it's a fact! The biggest mistake you can make is to sell when it is going down and buy when it is going up. Two years ago the TSX was at about 11,400 It closed yesterday at somewhere around 13,400. If you have been in the market for a while (and if you are going to invest in the market it should be long term) you are still in good shape. If you invest in the market short term you need help or one heck of a lot of luck!

Ya Irishfield, and she'd donate that to someone that need it if they would let her! I've met a lot of very giving people but Maureen has to top the list! As far as meeting someone quite interesting; Oh, I have met a lot of very interesting people but one that sort of stands out: last October I was invited to spend a night at one of Ray Scott's private lodges in Montgomery AL. It is located on about 11,000 acres of land with it's own private lake (if you don't know who Ray Scott is, just type his name into Google) It wasn't "posh" but it was very comfortable and there weren't servents although I had the pleasure of meeting with a number of people that work for him. This is a lodge that several famous people have stayed at in the past including a number of the Bush Family. (I don't think my name will ever be in the Whos who book, LOL). Anyway, the following day I had the pleasure of meeting Ray in person. he is in his 70's but it sure doesn't show. His eyes are clear, his mind aleart, his hand firm and strong and he has a wonderful sense of humor. Just talking with him you knew he was someone special but not because he tried to make you believe it, you could just feel it! I only got to spend a little while with him but it was something I will always remember!

Those cats must be well fed because that squirrel on the roof doesn't look too worried and I can't tell for sure but it looks like there is another one at the food bowl bottom left. Glad you had a good time, thanks for the pictures!

Good on you! Now, you have to move that boat 160 miles and that can be a bit of a challange depending on where it is and where you want it. If you nee some experienced help, let me know. I have a very good friend who has a 36' trawler and has navigated everything from FL to Northern Ontario. I just know he would be happy to help out if I asked him. By the way..... Good things happen to good people!

Heck, we have beer here that is 0.5% alcohol. Now, that's what I call watered down!

Well, that's about double what we did on the food last year and we've still got the auction to go, I've already got my sights set on an item so let the fun continue! Well done Moe!!!!!

Well, every year it just keeps getting better and better, this year was no exception! At one point I commented to someone that "its' too bad the fish weren't biting better" and he summed it up beautifully when he responded " its not about the fishing, its all about a fun day for a worthwhile cause!" So True!!!! A special thank you to my co-cooks, and all those that donated food, components, prizes, and helped us. You sure know the meaning of team work! I'd be proud to stand sholder to sholder with any of you any time! I have to say though that seeing all the old friends and getting a chance to meet so many more people for the first time is pretty exciting. Along with supporting a good cause, it's one of the things I look forward to every year. Sign me up again for next year Moe!

Well, I just got back from the mail box and there was a cheque from Roy for $100.00. WOW my friend that was way more than expected but very much appreciated. It covered the entire cost of all the sausages (by the way, Len & Patti from the Butchers block in Lindsay made them into links for us and there are 114 regular and 114 Octoberfest). So, Justherb, Beans, and I will be kicking in a donation to help defray the cost of some of the other things that are needed. Thank you so much to all those that have helped! Roy I have always said you give 200% but you just proved it! Friends like you are rare and it's not about the money!!!!!!!

You , I heve to meet, that is just too funny! "Last night we had a visit from a partridge (part of a flock of 10 that prowl around the houses) and he hit the house in full flight. I picked him up and he sat in my hand for a few minutes, then just died. Now, as all fishermen know you cannot waste the meat you catch, I did the only thing I could, and it is now in the deep freeze. If the MNR read this and come by to check on me I guess my only excuse can be;I DIDN'T KNOW THE HOUSE WAS LOADED!!"

Well, to start with, here is a link to the Ottawa chapter of NAVHDA. Contact them and find out when their meetings are then get out and meet some of their people, they should be able to give you a heads up on who you can trust or not. Even then do not jump at the first opportunity to get a pup let your head rule here instead of your heart. There will be lots of time for loving down the road. Ottawa Chapter of NAVHDA. Don't stop there, Check with the CKC CKC If a breeder isn't registered with them then be cautious. Even then, I have come across breeders who were or claimed to be registered CKC but when you started to ask about paperwork they always had some excuse. You are making a long term investment here just be sure you are getting your moneys worth. If you are interested in a breeder then find out who the sire and carp are for that litter and do some research on them and their blood lines, you want to know if there is any history of health problems (a reputable breeder won't be breeding if there are health problems). Get out and see some of their dogs actually working, find out how other pups from previous litters have done. Andy turned out to be an exceptional dog but it wasn't by accident, I spent almost a year looking for reading about and asking questions to be sure off what I wanted and then had to wait for him to be born. I ended up driving to McHenery IL, in a blizzard to get him but it was all worth it. As you start to gather information let me know what you have found out and I will do my best to help you evaluate it. lastly let me talk to a breeder I know, she called me just before Christmas because she had a carp she wanted to breed with Andy. I wasn't interested at the time but let me see who the carp is and when she is expected to come into heat. I have only allowed Andy to be used for stud twice because I am VERY selective but if the carp is good enough I might consider it. I'll see but no promisses OK. Lastly if you found a breeder with a VERY good carp I MIGHT consider allowing Andy to sire one more litter, most breeders would be happy to do that breeding, Andy's father was Shooting Star's Sharp Shooter and his mom was Grouse Vom Riverwoods both very well known GSPs. I'll have to do some thinking on it! keep me posted!

Sorry to hear you can't make it this year Sam! I was looking forward to seeing you again! take care and I'll be talking to you soon!

May I introduce to you Katiebow's AndyAKC, CKC FDJ, FD, NAVHDA NA, UT & Canadian show champion. Andy picked me when he was just 7 weeks old, taught me how to get his first field tile by the time he was five months old and had compleated all his other titles by the time he was two. Yes, they are a very smart breed! They are very social dogs and do best if you let them be part of your family. They don't do well left alone in a kennel tied up in the back yard. They are a very active dog and need a lot of love and attention, be prepaired to spend some time with them every day. They love to train because they love to please! Do you have room for it to run and get a lot of exercise? They are excellent with children! What to watch out for. Well be very careful in selecting a pup, make sure you know the blood lines and can get a copy of both the sire and rabid dogs pedigree. If you think you have it narrowed down and would like me to review them for you, I would be happy to do that. Be prepaired to join NAVHDA and take advantage of all the training that they offer for both you and the dog. Andy is 10 years old now and starting to slow down a little (but he'd hunt until he droped if I would let him). I could spend an hour or more telling you all the things he has done that have amazed myself and my friendsbut you will soon have your own book of stories but remember, you will only get out of your dog, what you put into it. If you would like to come and visit him and talk somemore about the breed, I know he'd love the company (he thinks everyone that comes here comes just to see him LOL). Give me a call (I'm his secretary) 705-328-0750, I'd be happy to help you in any way I can!
