  1. I hear you Lew! I know you are way too smart to actually do something like that (much as we might like to at times LOL).
  2. They wouldn't need to try a second time Lew, they'd get enough money out of sueing you for booby trapping the handle you'd probably have to sell the hut along with just about everything else to pay for it. Their story would probably be "Oh we were just checking the door to make sure it was locked so no one would break in"!
  3. Nice pic! Good work on posting that first photo.
  4. It's people like him that make me proud to be a Canadian!
  5. Good for you and them, you did it to help them and they showed you that they appreciated it!
  6. Ok people, who will be the first to step up to the plate; 200 jumbo hotdog buns, get them donated, buy them, have we got any salesmen (people) on this board?
  7. How is this for a deal Moe. You get the sausages 100 ea. and what ever doesen't sell I'll buy for cost + 10%. You (Tyler) can't loose! I do remember when we started last year thinking "Sausages?" but they were the biggest hit! so now we need buns!
  8. I would really love to spend some time with someone down there that knows all about how to harvest oysters, crab, clams, anything you can get living off the land so to speak. I wonder if there is any kind of an exchange program LOL. Wouldn't that be an interesting adventure?
  9. Doesn't count unless it came out your nose!
  10. LOL, I borrowed it from him Roy. It's a little big on me though!!!!
  11. Black tip shark. You aren't allowed to fish for sharks within 1/2 mile of shore in Myrtle Beach, they don't want the tourists to know they are there. As a result, you can't use a net or gaff to land them and you are not allowed to keep any that you do land. If you do hook one, you are allowed to hand line it up to the pier to remove the hook but must let it go right away. Since you are about 30' above the water you don't get to land many in excess of about 10-15 lbs. They sure are fun to catch though and put up one heck of a fight and apparently they are excellent eating. Spiney Dog Fish: Very similar to the Black Tip Shark except they don't have the black tip on the tail and they have white dots along the lateral line. They also have spine on every fin similar to a catfish and will try to stick you if they get the chance. From what I was told it can really hurt if they do connect. Don't know about eating them but since they are a member of the shark family, you can't keep them either. Salt Water EEL: Put up one heck of a fight both in the water and on land. I'm not much for snakes and eels so I wasn't ready to handle this guy but one of the fellows I was fishing with said they were excellent eating and asked if he could have it. That was the only thing that wasn't C&R. This little sucker has some nasty looking teeth. (no I didn't get a picture of them LOL). Horseshoe crab: Well, it didn't put up much of a fight, more like pulling in an old boot. It sure was ugly, no one seemed to know if they were good to eat or anything. First picture is the top side, second one is the underside. Clear Nose Skate: A lot of people confuse them with sting rays but they don't have the barb on the tail and there are several other differences. They are very plentiful and put up one heck of a fight. A 5-6 lb skate puts up as much fight as a 20 lb pike. They don't like to quit. I am told that if you are willing to do the work they can be good eating but I didn't see anyone keeping any. (I guess it must be a lot of work and there are only small portions of it that are usable). Lastly, my favorite catch of the whole trip: A blue crab. You can't have anything but respect for this little guy. He might have weighed in at about 1.5 lbs. He grabbed onto my bait and wouldn't let go (now, that's determination) he caught me in about 35' of water then let me reel him in and lift him another 30' through the air and up onto the pier. He didn't let go of the shrimp until I set him down on the dock. Then he was ready to take on any commers.... backed himself up against the rail and took a shot at anything that came close (man this little guy had guts, I outweigh him about 200-1 but he wasn't going to give up without a fight). Couldn't help but respect that kind of courage. It took a few minutes but he too was released to fight another day. Well, I took a lot more pictures but tried to post some of the more interesting ones. Hope you enjoy. Big Cliff
  12. if this works, this was a black tip shark that I caught in Myrtle Beach. OK, not quite what I had in mind. Lets try something else OK, that's better. Now I have an idea what to do, I'll post the rest of them.
  13. I think we are still waiting on Moe to find out what Sobye's is going to donate so we can figure out what else is still needed.
  14. It's not Cliff's dock, it's Andy's dock He just lets me and my buddies fish there if we are nice to him LOL.
  15. One of my favorite spring walleye lures is made by Matzuo, I haven't found anything that even comes close (even live bait) as far as producing numbers of fish. I tried to email them because I had a question about the directions that were supplied with it " tie line directly to the lure" but the lure comes with a snap clip installed. never did get an answer from them but tying the line directly to the lure works about the same as using the snap clip. Let me know if you do get a response from them. Good Luck.
  16. Thanks Tony, that's a BIG help. Buns, anyone got a lead on where we might be able to get some buns donated?
  17. Sorry I missed this thread earlier. Best wishes to both of you
  18. Sausages, sausages, sausages. They were by far the most popular item last year. Mild & medium. Anyone got a lead on some? Tonyb, sorry you may have posted on the # of chicken breasts you will be bringing and I've missed it. Do you know yet how many?
  19. I'll bet you are going to play and replay that one many times over Good for her and you cause I'm sure you must have put a lot of work into it too!
  20. He may in fact have originally registered on my computer, neither of us can remember for sure (we're both getting old LOL). I was busy all day yesterday and will be in and out quite a bit today, so if someone can sort this out for him please send the replies to his email address. [email protected] Thanks Big Cliff
  21. justherb asked me to post this for him. OFC - I can't get on to the site. When I try to log in it tells me I'm not a member and when I try to register or re-register it tells me there is already a justherb. I haven't signed on for a couple of months. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks Herb please respond to his email address [email protected]
  22. I have everything from $400.00 custom made rods fitted with some fairly expensive reals to things I have bought at auctions for $5.00 for the rod and reel. Just bought a Shakespeare Supera (big water) rod and reel down in Myrtle Beach for $19.95. Excellent outfit (you can rent them on the pier for $18.00 a day, same thing). We have a lot of kids and guests fishing here throught the summer and I always keep a bunch of rods and reels handy. I have found that if you watch for the sales you can pick up a reasonably good rod and reel combo at CTC for $29.00 - $39.00. I have always liked Shimano, Mitchell, but with 15+ combinations, I have a bit of just about everything. My suggestion is; until YOU can tell the difference between a Good/Intermediate/Top of the line outfit, stick with the inexpensive stuff and enjoy yourself or come out here and experiment with some of the stuff I have.
  23. I decided to try fireline for the first time last year, mixed feelings about it. I liked the fact that I could use a smaller dia. and get some extra strength over the mono I had been using but I did find that if you got any kind of a tangle in it you almost always had to cut it out. I almost always fish walleye and I did find that some days the mono seemed to produce better and other days the fireline produced better but I haven't had enough experience with it to say for sure that one is better than the other. I think I'll keep a couple of rods spooled with each until I have had a chance to evaluate them better.
  24. Thanks Tony! How many of those chicken breasts do you have coming? In the next day or two I'll be posting a check list of what we have and what we still need. Come on gang, we don't have any sausages, burgers, hotdogs, or buns yet and as much as I would like to supply them all, I just can't do that right now. How about some of you talking to your bosses and getting the company to donate some cash toward purchasing some of the stuff. Every little bit will help!!!!!!
