Well, to start with, here is a link to the Ottawa chapter of NAVHDA. Contact them and find out when their meetings are then get out and meet some of their people, they should be able to give you a heads up on who you can trust or not. Even then do not jump at the first opportunity to get a pup let your head rule here instead of your heart. There will be lots of time for loving down the road. Ottawa Chapter of NAVHDA. Don't stop there, Check with the CKC CKC If a breeder isn't registered with them then be cautious. Even then, I have come across breeders who were or claimed to be registered CKC but when you started to ask about paperwork they always had some excuse. You are making a long term investment here just be sure you are getting your moneys worth. If you are interested in a breeder then find out who the sire and carp are for that litter and do some research on them and their blood lines, you want to know if there is any history of health problems (a reputable breeder won't be breeding if there are health problems). Get out and see some of their dogs actually working, find out how other pups from previous litters have done. Andy turned out to be an exceptional dog but it wasn't by accident, I spent almost a year looking for reading about and asking questions to be sure off what I wanted and then had to wait for him to be born. I ended up driving to McHenery IL, in a blizzard to get him but it was all worth it. As you start to gather information let me know what you have found out and I will do my best to help you evaluate it. lastly let me talk to a breeder I know, she called me just before Christmas because she had a carp she wanted to breed with Andy. I wasn't interested at the time but let me see who the carp is and when she is expected to come into heat. I have only allowed Andy to be used for stud twice because I am VERY selective but if the carp is good enough I might consider it. I'll see but no promisses OK. Lastly if you found a breeder with a VERY good carp I MIGHT consider allowing Andy to sire one more litter, most breeders would be happy to do that breeding, Andy's father was Shooting Star's Sharp Shooter and his mom was Grouse Vom Riverwoods both very well known GSPs. I'll have to do some thinking on it! keep me posted!

Sorry to hear you can't make it this year Sam! I was looking forward to seeing you again! take care and I'll be talking to you soon!

May I introduce to you Katiebow's AndyAKC, CKC FDJ, FD, NAVHDA NA, UT & Canadian show champion. Andy picked me when he was just 7 weeks old, taught me how to get his first field tile by the time he was five months old and had compleated all his other titles by the time he was two. Yes, they are a very smart breed! They are very social dogs and do best if you let them be part of your family. They don't do well left alone in a kennel tied up in the back yard. They are a very active dog and need a lot of love and attention, be prepaired to spend some time with them every day. They love to train because they love to please! Do you have room for it to run and get a lot of exercise? They are excellent with children! What to watch out for. Well be very careful in selecting a pup, make sure you know the blood lines and can get a copy of both the sire and rabid dogs pedigree. If you think you have it narrowed down and would like me to review them for you, I would be happy to do that. Be prepaired to join NAVHDA and take advantage of all the training that they offer for both you and the dog. Andy is 10 years old now and starting to slow down a little (but he'd hunt until he droped if I would let him). I could spend an hour or more telling you all the things he has done that have amazed myself and my friendsbut you will soon have your own book of stories but remember, you will only get out of your dog, what you put into it. If you would like to come and visit him and talk somemore about the breed, I know he'd love the company (he thinks everyone that comes here comes just to see him LOL). Give me a call (I'm his secretary) 705-328-0750, I'd be happy to help you in any way I can!

Kudos to Bill's bait and Tackle! No one prize or controbution may seem like a lot by itself but together........ Kind of like grains of sand; put enough of them together and you have one heck of a nice beach! We have to remember to let all of the people that have supported us know that we really appreciate it!

SlowPoke & Tinbanger could very well be right Moe. It is really important to us but the manager may have a lot bigger issues to deal with. Perhaps one more call to explain that we have to have an answer right now so we can put all the pieces together and fill any voids would do the trick. I really can't see them standing you up at this point, but I'm sure that a store with hundreds of dollars in sales being rung through their cash every minute has a lot more than some burgers, buns, and hotdogs to think about! One more chance? Want me to call for you?

That stinks Moe. I wish we had a bit more time, Len & Pattie Thurston at the Butcher Block & Abattoir here in Lindsay couldn't afford to DONATE the sausages we needed but they are making 33 lbs of mild & 33 lbs of Octoberfest sausages (they don't sell it by the link, they sell it by the coil and Len figured we should get 3 nice size sausages per lb) fresh for me to pickup this afternoon for their cost. $100.00 for the lot. Roy, Justherb, and I are all kicking in to cover that. I would suggest that whatever you do have to shell out for the rest of the stuff that is needed that it shouldn't come out of your pocket, I think you have contributed more than your fair share already. Too bad about Sobey's but we'll know better for next year!

Excellent unit, now spend a bit of time learning how to use it before you go off somewhere and get lost and HAVE to find your way back LOL.

Well, you know what, Lew is one of the biggest contributors on this board and he is a friend. I don't have his phone number but if someone has it please PM it to me! If he just wants to take a break then so be it but I just need him to tell me that! He sounded sad in his last post! that is not the way it should be! Lew, if im invading your space, I apologize! Yah but don't look for him to be sitting in any boats, he is going to be busy as co-cook. I will also bring my auger and a couple of rods and reels. Man I am so excited about seeing everyone again ( especially Joey's smile) (it's Ok Paul, I'm a very happily married man LOL).

Well David, I have a nice home, raised bunglo walk out basement in Snug Harbour on Sturgeon Lake. Down stairs is a large guest room with a queen size bed, large family room with gas fire place, TV, and a 4 piece bath room. Everything is quite new and very clean. I am thinking of putting a small efficiency type kitchen in and a second bedroom with two bunk beds. We have a large lot with good water access, lots of room for parking, excellent, safe water access 4' of water at the dock and no rocks or stumps to worry about. There is excellent fishing right off the dock which is 20' wide by 15' deep. We catch carp durring the day, pickerel in the morning and evenings and just about anything that is in the lake during the day including the odd muskie. We are right at the point where the Scugog River enters into Sturgeon Lake so even on a windy day we can access the river if we want to and still get some good fishing in. There is an excellent boat launch just 4 doors from us and I believe they only charge $10.00 for in/out and you could park at our place. I'm not interested in guiding but love to cook and take care of people. So I was thinking that if I could hook up with someone that loved to guide.... I could provide a nice place for them to bring clients for a lunch as simple or as fancy as you would like. A comfortable place for a pit stop or shelter from a storm. A place for their clients to spend a night or two, or even yourself if it was more convenient for you. Perhaps a place to go for a break between the afternoon and evening bite. If people wanted lunches packed, or supper, I'd be happy to provide that too but I'm not interested in running a restraunt or anything. I don't want to turn this into a JOB! Anyway, lots to think about, I'd still have to make sure that I wasn't in violation of any by-laws or anything and I'd really want to talk to some more people that run B & Bull or that sort of thing. Any ideas or input both pro and con would be most welcome. PS. Moderators; if at any point, anything posted on this thread is considered to be spam or not appropriate please remove it with my blessing! I have too much respect for the members of this board to want to test any boundries!

I wish we were closer Gerritt, there are lots of things going on up here with all the development that is going to be happening this spring there are going to be lots of jobs available in the Lindsay/Peterborough area. Good luck in your job search!

Cliff, that is an excellent link, the world needs more like it. Thanks!
-
VERY WELL SAID TJ! I'll be interested in seeing if they respond and if it makes any difference but why not copy that to the CRTC as well! Good for you!
-
LOL Thanks Terry but I think my guiding days are over. My boat still works well but it is old, I would need a whole lot of new equipment, and I just don't take catching seriously enough any more. (fishing now, that's a different story) I'll leave the guiding to the pros!
-
I would be interested in finding out who if anyone is planning to do any guiding on Sturgeon lake this year. If so have you guided here before, and when. (A bit of background on what you offer in services, species) Would you be interested in having a B&B available to you or your guests located right on the water or a place to stop for a nice shore lunch or a meal. If I was to advertise a B&B would you be interested in doing some guiding if guests wanted it? I'm just doing some thinking here. I have asked for the information but if you are worried about your response being considered spam then please PM me.

That is sad to see. There are some things that insurance just can't replace. I hope that when you have a chance to get in there most of it will have survived. -
Sinker has a really good idea there, it will make hooking up much easier and a trailer jack with a wheel will be a big help making those final adjustments. Just make sure that your hitch is suited to the boat and tongue weight that you are going to be towing.
