  1. You are so right Lew, it is sad! Living where we are, I see it almost every day, garbage tossed at the side of the road, tires, computers old boats, the one that bothers me the most though is the old drums of god knows what dumped where it can leach into our water systems. There is a beautiful little section of gravel road not too far from our house that runs through a bit of bush. The sides of the road are littered with old furnature, tires, you name it. Every year it gets cleaned up, within a week there is more stuff thrown in there. I am thinking of donating a game camera to the city of Kawartha Lakes so that they can catch some of the abusers. Not that they would ever do anything about it but.... Why do people have to be like that, there is a dump just a few miles down the road and most of the stuff there wouldn't even be a charge for. Just too lazy I guess!
  2. Well, I couldn't get inside to see how much damage has been done to the boats but if you look at the wall on the right and several of the supports you can see that the ice has done a number on them. At least three of the boats are now in the water and I am sure they will have suffered a fair amount of damage as the roof seems to be resting on them and at least one of them is partly submurged. I sure hope they have a good insurance policy. not sure whow's insurance would have to cover it, the boat owners or the marina's. And you think you had a bad day?
  3. Ahhhhhh! You are right Roy she sure is a sweetie! Happy Easter all!
  4. I think I'll just go over to the trout farm this morning and catch a couple LOL. I'm not into freezinf and sholder to sholder crouds.
  5. Sinker, it is the raised slips (not raised any more) on the SW corner of the marina where the point extends out into the lake that took the worst of the beating. It was dark by the time I got home last night but my wife said that the end of that building had come down on top of at least three boats and that they were now in the water and at least one of them was partly submurged. I have to go help a friend for a few hours this morning but I should be home by one pm. If you need ANY help at all just drop in and I will do whatever I can to help you. if you have a camera please try to get some photos and post them, I'll try too but we have company coming today for the weekend and I might not get a chance to post until after the weekend.
  6. Well, I think I spoke too soon, today the wind changed the ice blew back in with a vengeance, my marine railway has been "realigned", but I'm lucky, the marina 4 doors down has had some serious damage and it looks like some boats there have taken a beating also. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow.
  7. On Tuesday evening there was ice on the lake in front of our place, by the time I got up on Wed. morning the ice had moved 500' off shore, by last night most of the bay was open water, all that in 24 hours. In six years, that's the fastest I have ever seen it clear. I wouldn't be going out on any ice anywhere in this area.
  8. Sorry I didn't get to reply sooner, might even be too late but my wife worked for a planning dept for a number of years and she could perhaps help you to at least know some of the ropes. If youare still in the process please let me know and I will see if we can at least point you in the right direction. You might not get what you want but at least you will know you didn't go to a gun fight with a knife!
  9. Spend, no, invest in the marine grade carpet, if you do the job properly you will get MANY years out of it. It would be a good investment even if you decide to sell the boat in the next few years.
  10. I can tell you from experience thet Kirk's advice = GOOD advice!
  11. Doesn't it seem strange? The companies that take care of their customers continue to grow while all the others settle into a common pool or fade away! Perhaps we should have a section on here for companies/suppliers that we consider "preferred"! TJ, sounds like a marketing opportunity! Wouldn't companies like Rapala enjoy being listed as a prefered vendor?
  12. Take every birthday with a grain of salt. This works much better if the salt accompanies a Margarita. Wishing you all the best! Big Cliff
  13. Joey, you don't have a raccoon problem, you have a landlord problem. I would simply call her back and explain that you had taken her advice and that there isn't a raccoon problem anymore but if she would like to split the cost with you, $325.00 should cover it. You probably won't hear from her again. However, there is some truth to the old saying "try not to burn any bridges behind you"!
  14. That is wonderful news! I am so happy for you and I'll bet this one is better than the one you didn't get (everything that happens, happens for a reason).
  15. I don't know why any cottagers wouldn't want carp around, all they do is eat weeds and help to keep your waterfront clean. I even feed them from ice out until late into the fall. From time to time the grandkids will come and fish for them and I have a few friends that like to sit on my dock and spend a few hours trying to hook into one. If someone wanted to keep one for the table that would be fine with me but to date most have just been released to fight another day. Biggest one landed so far, 27 lbs but I have seen bigger ones crusing just off the dock. As for eating them.... can't comment much on that, I did smoke one many years ago and it wasn't too bad.
  16. Any morning I wake up and there is no chalk line around me is off to a super start LOL. You have a super day one and all!
  17. Outside, good idea on the leader thing, I think I'll do that this year.
  18. A cheque is on it's way today Sam not as much as I would like but the best I can do for now. If you want to do any kind of a fund raiser and need help, just let me know, I'll be there!
  19. It is a pile of fun Maureen but yes, you do need a GPS. Here is a link that will tell you all about it. Geocaching information
  20. My son and I started a cache years ago, it's called Northern Lights and it is up near Noelville. I keep getting reports on it several times a year as people find it and log it and I check on it every once in a while when I am up that way.
  21. Mine is insured through State Farm where I have all my insurance. Cost about $175.00 (all perrals) a year, boat is an older one only valued at about $6800.00 but I also have $4000.00 for personal property. If you are already dealing with State farm, they would be the first ones I would call.
  22. Well, I'd tell you to run it over here and I'd fix it for you but then I saw where you were located LOL. As carper said, "check the fuses" let us know if that is the problem. The normal wireing for a trailer is: White = ground Brown = running lights Yellow & Green = right and left signal as well as brakes.
  23. I know a nice little lake up North that is loaded with pike and a 12' boat would be perfect on it but the only washrooms are a tree and the shower only works when it rains. If you do decide to do a more remote thing in the future let me know and I'll PM you directions etc.
