  1. Good luck with the "doing a little fishing" LOL, I worked that food counter for a few years with some exceptional helpers and we were kept busy getting stuff ready for the big rush. All I can say is that you beter be ready for the big rush when it comes, gives a whole new meaning to fast food! LOL. What you going to have on the BBQs. "Advertise here please"!!!!!!
  2. Went out fishing for a bit this afternoon but then I decided to take a bit of a tour and see who was where and catching what. I really hadn't dressed for the occasion since I had originally just planned on poping a couple of holes out in front of the house but the ice conditions were good for the ATV so away I went (about 15 miles round trip). had a wonderful time, talked to lots of new people, the sun was shining, the winds were light. Toward the end of my loop I came across three young men who were just getting set up but they seemed to have a problem, one of the screws had stripped on the blade of their auger. They were in the process of trying to work out a fix when I pulled up. Well, I had my auger with me so I offered them the use of it to punch as many holes as they wanted. They were so appreciative that the one young man INSISTED that I had to have one of their ham and cheese sandwiches. Boy was it ever good. If you guys happen to read this post, Thank you so much and I hope you finally got on some fish!
  3. Well congratulations Grandpa! Just remember you load them up with chocolate JUST before you send them home to mom and dad LOL.
  4. This is your father and I didn't need to hear that!!!!!! Well, I do kind of like it when Claude wimpers in the corner going "yes dear, what ever you say dear" LOL. Truth be spoken men and women are not the same. That doesen't mean that one is weaker or smarter or better, just in different ways. The two together compliment each other without each other neither would survive. Fun wrestling to me is very different than trying to see who is the strongest, fastest, weakest. Men and women are different and I'm sure glad of it!
  5. Well, just looking out the window, the lake looks like a mess. I don't think any of the water is draining away, in fact I can see large patches of water/slush out there. It might actually be a good thing though because if the temperatures drop the way the forecast is calling for it might make travelling a lot easier. Only 31 more days until spring lots of hard water fishing to get done, the freezer is almost empty!
  6. Chilvary is still alive and well! I was raised that a man never went in a woman's purse and a man didn't hit a woman. Two things I have never done in 65 years with one exception, When Sue had a heart attack and I needed to get her medical information for the Dr.'s. It is a little thing called respect! Good for him and his family for supporting and believing in traditional values.
  7. Crawling into a burning, smoke filled house on your hands and knees 8 times to try to find and rescue someone isn't exactly my idea of a "trivial acts of kindness and action". As far as "It is only those in the general public who are to scared to weak and sometimes to stupid who bust out the word "Hero"" I may be old and don't have a great education but I don't think I am stupid or weak! I do think that someone who risks their life by going to such lengths to save the life of another person that they don't even know is a hero! Being paid or not!
  8. So glad to hear you are on the mend, that is a very serious situation. It is a good thing you caught it in time! Get well soon!
  9. Apparently it took him 8 tries but he managed to crawl on his hands and knees, find a woman, and carry her to safety. He will be honored as it should be. I don't have more details yet, just heard it on CTV news.
  10. Friend of mine (a cop)(but he would deny ever saying this) once told me that if I did ever shoot someone trying to break in to my house to make dam sure I killed them even if it took a few extra shots. Dead men tell no tails apparently. The only thing he did caution me on was to make sure that at least one of the shots was to the front "I was being attacked". The other 5 or six shots were just reflex, I was scared to death! We recently had a guy come to our door trying to sell us a security system, I told him we already had one. He asked what it was? I told him it was a D&12G. He looked at me kind of puzzled and I said "a dog and a 12 gauge". He didn't bother to push his product.
  11. Oh I'd love to hear the call to the insurance company on this one LOL!
  12. Depending on the size of engine.....MOST 4 stroke snow blowers would take approxamatly 560ml of oil from drained to about the full mark on the dip stick. If you put in about 500ml then you have probably over filled the crank case as has been suggested already. What I would suggest is that you drain the crank case and then refil with 5W30 oil only to the full mark on the dip stick. I would also suggest you change your spark plug. Tell me what make and modle you have and I can tell you what plug and what gap you need. And yes, there are lots of 2 stroke snowblowers out there most are single stage because the 2 stroke engines can handle the higher RPM. For example chainsaws often tach out at 13,000+/- RPM. Try that with a typicial 4 stroke and see how long it lasts LOL.
  13. Might be Lew, if I was a younger man LOL. Actually I did manage to walk out this afternoon. Once I got about 100 yards off shore the snow wasn't too bad, the warmer temps today seem to be making it pack down a little. Even in the last couple of hours there doesn't seem to be any drifting snow like there was when I first went out. Fishing is really slow today, 2 walleye and about 8 perch for about 3 hours fishing. The cold finally started to get through to me so I called it a day. Hopefully by next weekend I'll be able to get around out there and can do some serious fishing. The crappie are there, I just have to find them.
  14. They won't have far to look, heck they can give me the one mitt salute as they go airborne LOL. Actually, where I would have made the path they shouldn't be riding anyway especially at any speed. We don't get a lot of sleaders out here, there aren't any trails close by.
  15. Thought about that but this is the first year I've had any trouble getting around on the lake.
  16. Well, we can scrap the snowblower idea, the snow is just too deep and hard packed, I made it about 30 yards and finally decided it was just a bad idea and too hard on the snowblower, looks like we'll be walking out today! I think I'll let the young lads break trail though. I'm running a 450 Sportsman and it has lots of power but once the snow packs up under it you just can't get any traction.
  17. Managed to get off work a bit early on Friday. I noticed two guys trying to get their ice hut dug out and onto a sleigh so I thought I'd try to get out and give them a hand, they'd been at it for a while. Well getting to the lake wasn't too bad, I had made a trail the week before but from there on it was tough slugging. I got stuck about 7 or 8 times in snow drifts and had to dig myself out, the drifts were 2'+ in a lot of spots, the ATV will dig through a lot of stuff but once it gets hung up the wheels just go round and round. Anyway I finally did manage to get out to where they were and with the three of us it only took about 15 minutes to get the hut up onto the sleigh. We had a nice chat, and away I went again. The trip back wasn't quite as bad since I did have a bit of a trail, I did get stuck a couple of times and had to shovel but nothing too serious. I also noticed that they had to pack a trail with their sleds before they could tow their hut or they just bogged down. I was goint to try again yesterday but with wind gusts up to 60k and all the blowing and drifting snow, decided I had better things to do (like vacuum and do the floors). I'm sitting here this morning thinking "I wonder how long it would take me with the snow blower to clear a trail out to where I want to fish?" I'm actually hoping that the warm weather and rain will knock the snow down and the cold weather that follows next weekend will make traveling on the lake much easier, I have some spots that I want to try but can't get to right now. I just checked the weather forecast and they are calling for 35K winds for this afternoon, I sure hope it isn't like yesterday with gusts up to 60. That wouldn't make it too comfortable and I sure wouldn't try putting my portable up even in 35K winds. Time to build a solid hut for next winter I think.
  18. Have you thought about a lot with deeded access? You might have a better chance of getting something like that in your price range. Here in the Kawarthas I doubt you would find anything on the water (decent lot) for under $200,000.00.
  19. Itsey bitsey spider. Just keeps going through my head, it won't stop! HELP!
  20. I have had an opportunity to meet pikeslayer and this is an awsome opportunity! If I hadn't already blown my budget I'd be all over this one.
  21. New connecting rod $45.00+ tax I can get one by Thursday if you need it give me a call 705-328-0577
  22. Sorry, we don't target OOS fish LOL. Actually the only reason the boys even took an extra few seconds to snap a quick picture is because it was firsts for them. Normally we just turn them back down the hole as fast as we can get the hook out of them. Now, the 13"+ perch, we can work on that PS. check your PMs please
  23. Sean, you and Jake are are welcome here ANYTIME! Two of the nicest, most polite young men we have ever met! I am glad to be a part of both your first ice walleye and look forward to many more exciting adventures with you. (oh, and Jim, he never catches fish LOL)
  24. Let me check on it tomorrow for you, I'll see what I can do. Did the rod break? Is there any damage to the crank case? Cylinder walls are OK? What do you think caused the rod to let go. You might be better just replacing the engine, I'll see what kind of a price I can get you on a retrofit.
  25. Excellent thread! I would be very interested in knowing more about this as well. How do I get more information on it?
