Oartothehead syndrome.

Did ok hunting largies yesterday. Most fish came off Senko style baits in shades of green. Pads and emerging weeds were the ticket. This fish... had been through a few wars... A few more came to the boat as well. Nothing too big, but a great day on the water. Boy was it hot out there Saturday!

Stopped scrolling down so I could just see the top of your hat so that I could read the full story before looking at the full pic...Glad I did. Awesome fish man! Congrats to you on a fish of a lifetime!

I'm glad the deal wasn't actually Kabs and the 1st rounder. I was seriously contemplating cheering another team. Kabs for Kessel and the bruins pick? No problem there. Heatly, Never in a Leafs jersey. Biggest jerk on the ice. He should realize what a grace he has been given to earn the money he makes playing friggin HOCKEY instead of pining away in a cell. Can't get along with the coach of his hockey team???? Give me sleep. Guy dissapears in the playoffs anyways. Lecavalier on the other hand... Would give Schenn for Vinny.(Edit) there obviously would have to be more that TB would want in return. But a good starting point.

You know GBW, with the Bog being as close as it is to Brooklin, you'd think I'd want to dump the boat in there more often. But I don't. It may be my least favourite body of water to fish. I'm sure that if I caught fish out there with more ferquency, I'd like it better. Until then...

Yeah, the deal that brought Pronger to Anaheim really had no impact at all on the Ducks winning the Cup.

Tlusty was the best player in the AHL for some time last year. I think he was moved up a little too quickly under Maurice and if Pogge had turned out the way JFJ was hoping, he'd look like a genius. Both him and Rask were very highly rated and to trade one for a Calder trophy winner wasn't a bad idea, just didn't end up looking like such a great one... Where was Rask last year anyways? Don't think his # were that great. I'd love if Duschene was the Leafs pick. Just that move alone would constitute a successful coup by Burke and truly give me hope in his vision.

I've been a diehard Daiwa fan but...........
Jigger replied to croixed's topic in General Discussion
I just bought a Daiwa viento after being a die-hard Shimano guy for years. I stripped a gear in my Stradic and had to drive a ridiculous amount of time to get to Aikmans in Miss. When I heard that the service center for Daiwa was at Gagnons, which is 10min down the road, I was sold. Don't mind the quality one bit. That being said, I've never owned a Shimano baitcaster that I didn't like. My very first one was a...Chromica and lasted me well into its tenth year when a few surprise musky stripped the reel. I'm still trying to get the thing to cast again. It was by far the best spinnerbait reel I ever owned. BTW, comparing an Abu C3 to a curado is like looking at the wheel before it was round and then seeing what it should be. -
TIGER MUSKY and Pike in Kawartha Lakes!! - Pics
Jigger replied to Slayingm's topic in General Discussion
One of the methods of control discussed in the draft I posted mentions drawing the water down around the time Pike would normally spawn, leaving their spawning bays on the dry side, and then raising the water tables to allow for those areas to be available to musky in their time of need. Seems like the most efficient way to try and control the Pike population. -
Great photos WSB! Love the Hummingbird. We see clones of it at the cottage quite frequently. I'm always amazed at their flying abilities. Thanks for sharing.

TIGER MUSKY and Pike in Kawartha Lakes!! - Pics
Jigger replied to Slayingm's topic in General Discussion
Was doing some reading the other day about pike in the kawarthas and came across this pdf file. Talks about tigers being in Scugog, Balsam and Pigeon. As well as identifying pike in Stony as early as the 80s. Pretty interesting stuff. Pike invading the Kawarthas talk starts around page 7 or 8. MNR draft -
If the anglers were to sit out the pre-fish, would that be OK? Fishing the day of the opener blind gives everyone the same shot and if they are the best "sticks" in the business that should reflect with some big fish anyhow, no? I always thought that prefishing should be eliminated, this situation just seems like the perfect start. Is there a link to your letter Marc? Theres alot of french speaking members that would be interested to read it.

Love the markings. Great looking fish. Congrats!

Going Fishing in Haliburton and area..need some muskie advice!
Jigger replied to miss_ub84's topic in General Discussion
There are some great musky on Cranberry. I was fishing that area on Sat. and Sunday. Lots of follows but no takers. A flippin stick and heavy line in the 50lb category should be enough for any fish in the Kawarthas or Haliburton. You'll probably burn a reel or two, but its worth it. I'd say try Cranberry again or, like Musky and Specks said, Head lake. I've never fished it but the comments I hear are the same as his. -
um, gas prices are going up? Never thought that would happen again. Step onto the Northbound DVP before Steeles at about 3PM with a bunch of your friends and protest your cause. Otherwise, deal with it.

I find that bigger fish of most species tend to be more calm when held horizontally. You can hold a walleye or bass by the belly without the distended jaw hold or gill hold. They're more often than not fairly docile in this hold. Vertical holds and tail grab holds seem to piss them off more.

fishing off season, catch and release acceptable?
Jigger replied to fishingisliving's topic in General Discussion
Knowingly targeting fish is illegal when they aren't in season. However, theres plenty of lures that have multiple species written all over them and incidental catches are going to happen. As far as spawning fish go, fishing spawning trout and Salmon is legal and by far the most popular time of year to target them. Fishing Pike in spawning bays when the season opens yields the years biggest fish on average. Its just easier to fish your target when its spawning whether you want to call it shooting fish in a barrel or whatever. But I guarantee you that if the water doesn't warm up fast enough, you'll see male bass being hauled off beds left right and center come opener. Doesn't mean its right, just legal. The bigger fish wont be in those same spots, but it will be the people that refuse to work a little harder and that will be content with quantity over quality fishing these spots. Why? Easy pickins. This weekends musky opener has spawning written all over it too if the temps are still on the mild side. -
Guess thats why they call it fishing and not catching. Thanks for the report Steve. I had second and third thoughts about calling in well today. Looked like it would be prime for some big Pike.
-
Congrats on the Sturgeon man! Looks like a great time out there. Haven't been to the W coast in some time. That report kindof gave me the itch to get back out there. When you start scheming about a Halibut trip, drop me a line, its on the to-do list for sure!

That may be my dream boat. Congratulations on such a sweet ride.
-
Couldn't have said it better John. Condolences for your rough ride and loss. Congrats on a heck of a pike!

Terrible news. My daughter is the world to me. My heart goes out to the parents.

The Costas look pretty good, I've heard good reviews about their line. I have a pair of really dark Arnettes that are great for real sunny days and a pair of photochromic Smith Optics for all other situations. The less light available, the lighter the tint goes and vice versa when the sky opens up more, the darker the shade. Well worth the money to get good shades though. Just as important as a depth finder IMO.

I can smell that musky from here... Nice smallie PT... Page 8 of the Fishing Regs states, under Open Seasons, that: It is illegal to attempt to catch fish for which the season is closed, even if you are going to release them. Fish accidentally caught during the closed season must be immediately released back to the water.
