The vertical pixel count is really impressive on the 570. Otherwise, I'd really be leaning in favour of the Lowrance. Because of the difference in vertical pixels, I'd say I'm in the middle of the teeter totter.

The Hunt is Over! ( small mouth bass / pike )
Jigger replied to Fishing 24/7's topic in General Discussion
Actually, the axe makes sense and probably was less work than most think. If you're just pirating your old holes, they probably wouldn't have froze as solid or as thick as the surrounding ice. Ive done the same thing with a spud bar. Easier to hit pre-existing holes. Just chip around the edges and the hole opens up pretty fast! Am I pretty close? -
Looking to replace my old Garmin finder this year and haven't got a lot of cash to play with. Being in school the last few months really put a damper on the budget.. But I found these two units that are within reach and am looking for any opinions from folks who've used either of these units. For the sake of specs, the Lowrance has a 480x480 pixel count, whereas the Humminbird is a 640V x 320H pc. Both screens are 5" and neither is a colour screen. On those merits, I like the Humminbird for the vertical pixel count, but like the ease of use that Lowrance provides. Where I get stuck is on Peak to Peak power. The L. has peak to peak power of 4000Watts, the H. is 2000W. Thinking logically, I'm assuming the 4000w finder draws alot more off the battery then the 2000W unit? But does this draw mean better ID such as bottom hardness, structure features, target separation, etc...? The tranducer on the L. is a 200khz 60deg w/temp and the H. a variable transducer that runs at 200kHz@ 20deg and 83kHz@ 60deg w/temp. Pricewise, the Lowrance is on for $199.00 and the Humminbird $219.00. The Garmin Im running now has a pixel count of 280x280, so either one is a monster improvement over what I've dealt with the last few years. Not that its a bad finder, its just time to move on. It was the first one that I bought and has more than served its purpose. Thanks for any opinions!

Well done, and congrats on a fish that 99.9% of us would be more then happy to pull out of an axe cut hole! That pike is sweet! Love the depth of the colour on it! Again, well done! Thanks for sharing. -
Perry and Getzlaf immediately spring to mind. Green for Niedermeyer is also fair. Lecavalier isn't the same guy he once was. Mind you, neither is Brodeur but...
-
I still don't understand why Brodeur got the start in the first place. Should've let Fleury get the start, then you could at least get a good impression as to who the best goalie on your squad is. How many important games(read playoffs) have Luongo and Brodeur won in the last two years? Maybe Babcock has it out for him because of last year? Luongo got a shut out this Olympics, granted. But at the same time, he wasn't really tested and is, IMO, not the best goalie on the Canadian side. Neither is Brodeur. The best goalie is heating the end of the bench. IF anything, Babcock should've seen the read that the US squad had on Brodeurs play early on and made the switch at 2-0. Whatever, I hope they dont grip their sticks too tight on Tuesday...
-
Perry's effort on the empty net goal was atrocious. Seems like Babcock feels like he owes Brodeur the #1 job or something. He definately hasn't earned it. Should've let Fleury play this one IMO. His play over the last two years has earned him that shot. Getzlaf as well hasn't played to his ability and should've bowed out. Congrats to the US team, hope we see you again in the medal round!

Since when is it classy to complain and leave in a huff because the reply count didn't match the view count? He'll be back. This thread is due for a lockdown...

After watching, I don't feel like I need to try it again. PHEW!

Lets say I put up a report on a fishing excursion I had. And I gave each person that reads the thread 2$. Would it be fair to ask for a dollar back from each person that reads it? You probably wouldn't say so. But essentially, thats what you're doing when you expect replies to a report, post, what ever. Sharing comes without expectations. If you're not content with sharing your adventures and having people sometimes not reply, then I guess I can see why you're not happy. Good luck on yer travels.

This one is not a quiz and is pretty cool. out of 4 tries, the best I can do is 3.89 in 169 seconds. The eyeballing test

Truth be told, a very high percentage of trade school is paid for by the taxpayer. You are sacrificing alot of time to go, but your monetary contribution to trade school is minimal. Also, if you're part of a union, they may have incentive programs that will fully refund your tuition for going to trade school.

I honestly thought that he was going to throw"I AM Canadian" in there somewhere. Spoken word can really suck sometimes. But I think that guy did a great job.

The national anthem had my wife and I both shaking our heads. If you want to make your own version of O Canada, do it at the Grey Cup, not when the whole country is trying to have a singalong. Other than that, I felt real proud tonight. Sure some of the show were a little campy. But I'm real happy that they granted the 4 Nations Head of State status. Nice tribute to the Luger that died as well. Hope they bring home alot of Gold this year!

$10 an hour gets your foot in the door which may lead to opportunities down the road. I'm in school right now and have been chomping at the bit to get back to work asap. Because EI sucks. Mortgage, wife and child, extra expenses. It all adds up. If, when I get out, I have to take a pay cut in order to get advancement down the road, I'm jumping ship. Put a little more hitch in yer giddyup as Foxworthy might say.

White House to spend $78 Mill on stopping Asian Carp
Jigger replied to I'mHooked's topic in General Discussion
Come to think of it, why doesn't our MNR offer up some of that highly effective Carp bacteria from a few years ago. Dump it into a few breeding areas and VOILA! Disaster averted. I'm sure they kept some... -
I'd watch the wording with carpenters needing to know the most out of all the trades. We all know that the plumbing holds the worlds buildings together. Having 6000hrs is a good thing if you wanted to start a new trade. You can take some of your hrs and apply them to a new apprenticeship if thats what you want to do. That being said, if you do like the trade you're in, you may have to follow the advice other posters before me have given you. Move to where the work is. Look online, telephone book, anywhere you can make a contact or apply for a job.Take as many upgrade courses as you can and get as much practical knowledge as you can so that you have just THAT much more you can offer potential employers. Being in the trades doesn't guarantee you a job for life. Theres high times and really low times. Get used to it. Good luck.

White House to spend $78 Mill on stopping Asian Carp

To be fair, Obama is being beset on all sides for cash and cannot by any strech of the imagination know the full extent of this and many other problems that hes throwing money at. So he just signs off and has to rush to the next matter begging for his attention. As was stated earlier, 78mil is a sizeable amount. Fair enough when you look at it from a standpoint of a person who has no idea what that kind of money means. I'm one of those people for sure. But the numbers are so overblown these days, its impossible to consider it good money. Do a quick Google search on Obama spending. The figures out there are absolutely astronomical! The people in charge of the dispensation can't know where its all going. As for the topical measures themselves and their impact on economy, couldn't plans for closing the waterways a good thing? Think about it. A) The goods still have to get to where they're going. How about building a new rail system?JOBS You're going to need to get things on and off the boats. Shipyard.JOBS C) Closing down and sealing the waterways themselves would create new JOBS as well. The mention of gobies, zebra mussels and sm bass are all fair. Because they were supposed to be the next apocalyptic event for the great lakes. Its also fair to look back at Obamas campaign strategy and get the US what they really need. JOBS and strategies to get the jobs to the people who need them. In this case the major stumbling point is getting the goods to where they need to go. Thats a solution that can be remedied. IF the Carp get into the great lakes and end up causing minimal damage to the ecosystem as it stands, this will have no bearing at all. But if the tables are turned, and this particular threat does turn out to be the real deal. Then we'll look back to this time and realize that this minute patch of a "solution" was a major turning point in the history of OUR Great Lakes. And I say that last statement with great pride and value of our neighbours to the south. Regardless who is in the drivers seat. -

Yes its a sizeable amount. But... We all hear outlandish numbers being thrown about to solve this problem or that problem, but what really becomes of it? This is a case of throwing money at something in hopes that it will go away. Guess what, it won't. Obamas facination with spending got the better of him this time. He had the power to close the waterway and establish a better plan once that had happened. He chose not to and is proposing that a number of small solutions be implemented. Small solutions rarely get rid of ENORMOUS problems. And proud has more to do with it then my first post leads on. I'm Freacking furious with the inaction of our neighbours, YOUR presidents apparent lack of concern for this extremely big problem. So forgive me if the pride I exhibit over this matter gets the best of me. -

Lets see, skim 30mil off the top that just vanishes, another 30mil thats spent on assessments and 10mil in wages, gas, food and 5mil for the project itself. Which will inevitably be over-budget within a few months. -
Should be called the WHOs missing tour...aaaaand Townsend should be in jail. But instead, put him on at halftime at the SuperBowl. I'll be choking myself out when they come on. Or leaving the room if I can instead. Like HH said, they should have called it quits after Entwistle left.
