  1. Got an invite to hit SImcoe before the huts got pulled. Apparently, a friend had swung a special package for the hut. We were a little disappointed when we got there. Overflowing garbage from previous occupants was still in the huts. The taxi equipment was in rough shape (thought we might have to push the argo home ) . Hut heater worked great, but the only way to vent the shack was to leave the door open. I realize the owner has only had the business 2 years, but equipment needs to be maintained. As for the fishing, the huts were in 25-30 FOW off Pt Bolster, and the bite was slow and soft. The group of us probably caught, in total, 100 perch, all dinks. There were a couple herring to give excitement . I even "found" one of them ellusive whitefish everyone was talking about. Shook him off at the hole to watch him slowly sink and chum the waters. All the same. it was a beautiful bluebird day. I had good company, and we caught fish. and I am grateful for getting an opportunity to finally get up to Simcoe this ice season.
  2. There were a number of people still thinking it was on for next week, talking about it at the Ft Erie show. I heard about it through a fly tyer who was quite excited about the event. Boy is he gonna be disappointed.
  3. My understanding was that an HAFFT event was to be held March 30th and Apr 1st in Hamilton. Best thing would be to contact that club.
  4. Lower Niagara is 20, upper is 19. Not too many on the Niagara that do large parties, Lake O can be prime along the Niagara shore in April. There are a few charter operators for the area in the OFC claasifieds.
  5. March has to come in like a lion before it can go out like a lamb. You have 3 more weeks yet.
  6. Hoping to do a roadtrip along the 17, stopping at a few spots along the way.
  7. A few of the guys are simply in the shadows these days. Not much on OFC that catches their interest.
  8. Hey Sinker. That half crazed, sleep deprived, compulsion during sugaring can run for 6 weeks in a good season. That time commitment, alone, makes the price worth every drop. You're only in the second week.
  9. My babies have been plastered all over the forum over the years. Ruffins. Sadly Lucky, My get well present after my heart attack. Peanut. Taken from us far too soon. And our newest joy. Casey. Smart as a whip and loves everyone. And the weekend mooch, Baxter. I could not imagine life without a dog at my side.
  10. I hope you ate him after getting him pickled
  11. I have a spot there every year. Good crowd. Always lots of old and new friendly faces showing up..
  12. One of the original ideas behind March break, at least in eastern Canada, was sugaring off. The whole family would be involved in the harvest with the fires running constant and non stop. Maple sugar was a traded commodity, and for many, the only supply of household sugar, being boiled down until granular and molded into loaves. All that remains of that process, today outside of aboriginal use, is the sugar candies that some places still make.
  13. Off to the show. http://www.niagaraoutdoorshow.com/ Hope to see some familiar faces.
  14. I also have an older Nautilus charger that has been great over the past 10 years.
  15. One of many great early 70's Canadian gems. At the top was the Guess Who and BTO. In that mix you also had Lighthouse, Crowbar, BST, Downchild, the Band, vanilla Fudge, etc....
  16. Got to try my hand at it once with an old timer. Boil down ratio was almost 100 to 1. Used part of it to make a wicked wine too.
  17. It's part of the loop for many. Once you've got the family thing going on, personal play time takes a back seat.
  18. I've had the good fortune to have seen him play many a time, The Horseshoe, the Forum, the Sault. He was a fun man to listen to. Every show a party. Won't find many who could ever fit the mold or fill his boots.
  19. They've made a lot of changes to various formats. Most annoying are the continuous stream of adds that follow each upload. They also removed the bulk upload that allowed a group a pics at once.
  20. In order to have a good season, temperature is key. The warmer temps can be good and bad. It gers the sap flowing, but if the night temps stay above zero, the season shortens and the sap gets dark fast. Optimum conditions are for the night temps to drop below zero each night, interrupt sap flow, and delay budding.
  21. The other office is the manure pile LOL
  22. Felt so good to finally hook up with a buddy for a well deserved day of fishing. No hospitals, clinics, waiting rooms or errands for one and all. Just 2 Grumps, a lot of ice and some misguided fish. Bill's catch. My catch Now the puppy and I can have our weekly fish brekkie. Shore ice should be in pretty poor shape, down here in Niagara, by the weekend
  23. 3 or 4 times a week for me and the puppy. One serving eack week is breakfast. One big thick pot of kalat moujakka/fish head soup every month.. Predominant feed comes from panfish
