  1. I caught a massive bowfin last weekend the thing was at least 10 pounds... My fishing partner asked if I wanted it netted... I woulda cut my line if it didn't have my a 12 dollar lure hanging out of it mouth. In hindsite i really should have taken a pictutre of it... It was kinda cool looking in a scary way.
  2. Nothing I look more forward to than trolling for some grease on a nice summer day... Thanks for sharing
  3. Its herring they surface all day long feeding and such. No season on them on simcoe.
  4. Nice going guys. Fishing out there has been good this spring. I take trolling for lakers over jigging whities anyday this time of year.
  5. I like something a tad longer in the medium power class specifically for trolling walleye. I splurged earlier this spring on a st croix eyecon 7'6" medium extra fast action. Haven't caught anything on it yet but it sure feels sweet. My friend bought a 7' medium heavy clarus for walleye trolling the same day. It also seems like a nice rod. Good luck with your purchase.
  6. Wow! Looks like he didn't need any fancy gear either!
  7. Lake sturgeon closed all year... Not to mention the whole spearing in a sanctuary thing...
  8. I wouldn't touch the stuff with a 10 foot pole... Unfortunately I don't think there are many fish out there that aren't polluted anymore. Heck, just the other day Tepco admitted they are still dumping 1000 tonnes of highly radioactive water straight into the pacific ocean daily and this has been ongoing for over a year now... How about some nice Pacific Salmon or Halibut... No thanks... One thing I would be curious is to see all this fish in the grocery store get tested just like our sport fish do for safe eating reccomendations... Oh wait the results would probably be shocking...
  9. I've been doing a spring trip with some guys from work now for a few years up there. The fishing can be great but it also can be tough. Depends on what the water temps are. I'm hoping this year our timing is right. The usual stuff works nothing fancy really jigs and worms and worm harnesses are the go to, but I'm finding myself trolling alot more with rapalas and other minnow baits up there. As for locations, well if they are in thick just follow the swarms of boats...LOL Like Bob said the pilings seem to be a good area and further upstream all the way around the next rock face corner. If the walleyes arent in the river yet try the first couple bays out from the river usually a few kicking around out there. Good luck
  10. Heres a favourite we always have on our spring walleye trip. Honey Bacon Walleye Ingredients •16 bacon strips, partially cooked •4 walleye fillets (2-1/2 pounds) •1 cup thinly sliced onion •1/4 cup butter, melted •2 tablespoons honey •1/2 teaspoon salt •1/4 teaspoon pepper Directions •Fold four 18-in. x 15-in. pieces of heavy-duty aluminum foil in half; fold up edges to make pans about 12 in. x 7 in. Place four strips of bacon in each foil pan; top each with a fillet and 1/4 cup onion. Drizzle with butter and honey. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. • Grill, covered, over medium heat for 12-15 minutes or until fish flakes easily with a fork. Open foil carefully to allow steam to escape. Cut fillets in half; serve each with two bacon strips. Yield: 8 servings. Still a few weeks away...
  11. I was hoping the water would be warming a bit by now. Still going to give one of my spring panfish spots a try this weekend. A month ago they were still in 15-20 fow near the shallow flats but had major lockjaw. I suspect it will be the same this weekend. You know what they say, a bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work.
  12. LOL I downsized last year from a full sized ram to a grocery getter similar to Rav4. It was nice having the big truck but I have little regrets about trading it in almost a year later.
  13. There used to be a couple places around here to get it now there is none... I know its not the answer you're looking for but I just order mine from Cabelas.
  14. I'm almost glad i don't have to stay up watching nail biters this playoff season. One thing I know for sure is that there won't be 7 years in a row with no playoffs....
  15. Sounds like you had a good weekend. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Gee wonder what would happen if I did that? Oh hey Mr. Provincial lawmaker you ever wanted to fish on a stocked private lake? Kick the peasants out and your welcome here anytime.
  17. I don't like it one bit... This type of thing is happening everywhere. This winter up north I noticed a few more old trails had been gated up... What worries me the most is how alot of these different stories parallel The UN's wildlands project... Coming to a favourite fishing hole near you!
  18. Nobody can accurately predict how the fishing tomorrow will be today. I personally like going and finding out for myself if it is "worth" the drive.
  19. Fishing up there in paradise probably gets boring you should stay at work....
  20. Just when I was thinking of staying from shimano as well. It is possible a bad batch got produced though... Thatnks for the heads up Corey
  21. Another vote for the 870 I love mine. My brother and a buddy both bought the mossberg 3 barrel shotgun combo model 535 i think? Anyways both of them have a barrel that doesn't shoot straight. Take that for what its worth...
