My sister in law fighting for our outdoor rights
chris.brock replied to mike rousseau's topic in General Discussion
Do you guys want more politicians making more laws? I don't. On crown land you can bird watch, pick berries, fly kites, skeet shoot, hunt, fish. That's how it should be in my opinion. -
Fishing Ontario's Last Frontier: Echoing Lake Report
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
thanks Bunk, I honestly tried hard, the silver kack is cool but what I really wanted was to beat Borger. thanks, the main lake, Echoing, is big and wide open, while we were there we didn't have a day with calm winds so we could really fish it properly. the temptation to go back is definitely there, a main driving force for me is the brook trout in the untouched river sections -
Fishing Ontario's Last Frontier: Echoing Lake Report
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
We had a tail wind for the flight in and we were there in about 1:45, nasty head wind coming out and it was about 2:20, the Cessna Caravan is a pretty fast float plane too. There is a Beaver on floats up there that belongs to the camp and it is at the guests disposal, fly where ever you want. Lots of unknown, unexplored lakes and river sections nearby. We only fished Yelling. Yelling was not virgin but untapped enough that nobody knew lake trout were in there and we were easily catching 50 per guy, per day. -
I am lucky and grateful to have been invited along on this epic trip. Here's where we went. Here's Eddies actual first fish of the week, a 42 We caught lakers like this until we were bored. Borger eloquently puts it all together here- http://www.canadafishingguide.net/fishing-ontarios-last-frontier-2/

My sister in law fighting for our outdoor rights

That's a slippery slope. If they pick one group here or in other places, the hunters will always loose. -
I remember about 25 years ago, the last weekend in November, sledding on 10 inches of ice and a foot of powder in Haliburton. The weather network says at least 2 weeks of well above seasonal temps starting tomorrow. I'm not counting on ice for the Christmas holidays.

I'm jealous. Yeah, that first laker picture, crop it up and it's magazine quality. Cool that you've got some confidence in the bows, I just find them puzzling.

I'd say a pat on the back to us, we made the best of a crappy November day. I slept like a log that night and am still sore after that day trip.

Beauties Jimmer! Those are big bows.

Quickie fishing report... edited to include today

Technically you caught that dead walleye, to abide by the law, I hope you consumed it and didn't waste it -
I didn't realize there was a liner up the chimney I would have to remove. If it sucks heat out of my house, that doesn't make sense either, I'm not doing it. OI- the gas was disconnected because I plumbed it in off of a gas line I shouldn't have, I think it's fine, it's just not up to code. Does anybody want to buy some well seasoned hard wood, Oakville area? $350 for a bush cord.

No clue about the Markam store, I went to the Mississauga store today, it's been well picked over, that's for sure, I still walked out for $203 with this stuff, that reel is $235 retail alone plus tax

My neighbor cut down this huge willow and I took the wood. Drifter basically called me an idiot for messing around with willow. I have to admit he was right. That wood sucks, but I've nurtured this stuff for more than 2 years and it's somewhat burnable. I've got a shitload of it plus lots of wood at my cottage. We've got a gas fireplace at home we don't use. The inspector disconnected it too, lol. It's inset into the fireplace in this 40 year old house. My question is, would it be a good idea to pull the gas unit out and go back to an old school fireplace? Will I actually gain heat with a fireplace or will it just draw in outside air into this drafty house? Ambiance is cool but I want a return. My brother put in a high end, wood burning insert with a blower into his fireplace in his old house. It cost $4k. Even if he cuts his own wood he'll never recoup that cost. I'm not doing that.

Nice haul Dutch! The super moon is Monday night, I bet that would be a good night to be out there and wrap up the season.

Anyone else getting ready for the controlled hunt?
chris.brock replied to BillM's topic in General Discussion
Sweet Billy, the smile says it all! You're a tall guy, what's your guess on weight? damn I wish I had more time and freedom to do stuff -

Combining both of my passions = My first video!!!
chris.brock replied to Walleye'm Fishing's topic in General Discussion
I did, that was cool, that song gets in your head -
My furnace was original, 32 years old and working fine when I replaced it since I was replacing the AC. My neighbors is original and 35 years old now and working fine. I don't notice any significant cost savings with the newer furnace. I had a lot of quotes when replacing my furnace. Many "used car salesman" snakes in that industry.

Thanks for the heads up Cap't. Yeah, I'm still getting LeBaron's emails. If I don't go north this weekend I may go east to the Mississauga store.

Daiwa Lexa 300; Abu Garcia Revo Toro 60; Shimano Curado 300e
chris.brock replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
That's my opinion too. Not necessarily for performance, but for reliability, durability and longevity. I use a Curado for muskie and pike fishing. It works better than my Calcutta for medium weight baits, but if I'm throwing the heavy stuff, the Curado feels overwhelmed, that's where I like my Calcutta 400. -
Early ice fishing season this winter??
chris.brock replied to huzzsaba's topic in General Discussion
I don't know Huzz, but I have to say today's weather was pretty sweet. My vehicle said 22 degrees, November 1st, I'm not complaining. Come up for some ice fishing whenever the ice does show up Huzz. -
I'd say a great day Rob.

Heating with wood will definitely add to the ambiance but without the place being totally insulated, you might be going to bed roasting and waking up in the morning freezing. I have the same issue at my cottage (wood heat only) when the weather is really cold. I sleep in a cold weather, synthetic (not down) sleeping bag. It helps buffer the temperature swings.
