Open seat on the boat (Friday evening/Saturday)
chris.brock replied to mattaw's topic in General Discussion
very cool offer, post a report, good luck -
it's a little tricky on the multi species lakes, on May 24 weekend, we were catching lakers in shallow bays in 4 fow, with the pike and walleye expanding their range in Haliburton, the pre-season bass fishing is going to get worse good for you for doing something and giving the offenders something to think about

fiction is great, and I have read many, there's plenty to pick from, but I really get a kick out of the non fiction stuff bare foot wader- good call on the Mad Trapper, here's 2 related books that are also worthwhile, and the Lost Patrol if you enjoyed the trapper stuff I couldn't find my copy but, Trespassing in God's Country: George Theriault, great stories from a bush pilot, fishing and some hunting Hap Wilson stuff, less fishing but a local, great outdoorsman, here's an odd one, this is a text book, it can be bought pretty cheap online, it's super thick with tons of info that is interesting and that helps when fishing too, it's known as the bible good thread, I'm hoping to find some new reading

what are you into, fiction, non fiction, what type of fishing do you like?
-
good luck Randy, let us know how you do

I am sort of guessing at what "severe jolting" is, but it doesn't sound like a symptom of no oil in the lower end -
pictures speak louder than words, beauty report!

definitely it's mentally hard to fish without the graph, I know the feeling good job on getting the walleye, they can be elusive up there
-
Do you need any new friends??? I'm already looking forward to your reports, what a fishery

really cool, I love old school stuff like

Sorry to hear about the tough fishing and weather delay. It still looks like a magical time to be in the bush. I'm looking forward to all your other adventure reports this season. -
A discussion on our rights(fishing/hunting related)

I heard this a few years ago, I don't know if it's true It's legal in Canada to not have a SIN #, no birth certificate etc., you receive nothing from the gov't, no health care, no EI, no education etc., and old laws still allow you to safely travel on roadways by whatever means you have, build a homestead on crown land (no permits etc.) and farm, forage, hunt and fish without being subject to regulations there was a name for living that way, I can't remember what it was now that we have millions of people and buy our food in grocery stores, I think we definitely need regulation and harvest limits, in a survival situation, you do what you have to, I hope a CO or judge has enough sense to distinguish poaching from survival -
Anglers fined fishing out of season !!!

I saw this a few weeks ago in the Kawarthas, there was a pike derby going on, the bass guys with the high end boats are happy to be fishing in May, there's a boat fishing in the sanctuary, another boat who is friends with the other guys is heading into the sanctuary, I say "it's still closed up there", the guy just mumbles and they all happily continue fishing the sanctuary -
3 guys in a 14 footer, my nephew put on a clinic and caught 5 of our 10 walleye, went back with 2 other guys, 4 total tried a different spot I used to fish for muskies, no walleye got 4 fishing solo yesterday all trips were the evening shift feels like the bite is slowing down, but it's still pretty good
-
No, the weeds aren't hard to find in the Kawarthas. I was just wondering how you experienced guys find the green instead of the brown. I'm pretty sure you guys, Jimmer, Sinker and Shawn know your lakes like the back of your hands. With all the lakes near by, I like to bounce around. Last Sunday I hit 2 new lakes I've never fished in 1 day. can't wait to get back up tomorrow morning, and I'm up until at least Wednesday, I feel a little like a kid on Xmas eve

If you've got the time, put on a bait that looks like the dying fish and try a few casts

It's not a "real" Fishing Yak.. But it's gunna do the trick!!

I did the chainsaw work 10 years ago. I did a week long solo trip with it like that too. So far, so good. It's not noticeable but it definitely must be weaker and more likely to fold in half if I get it pinned on a rock in a rapid -
How do you guys find green weeds if there's a chop on the water and you can't see down? Dredge bottom with a crankbait? just curious and I think it will help me too We've done well on the walleyes the last 2 weekends, 4 to 8 feet, windy shorelines over weeds, suspending jerk baits (smaller seemed to be better), then trolling in current areas after dark

sweet boat Nick, I've always wanted to try one, I bet it's going to effortlessly fly along with 2 paddlers this likely isn't an option for you since that yak is either new or in great shape, but I carefully used a chainsaw to make the cockpit bigger, so I can stretch my legs and back, it's easier for jumping out to line rapids etc, I can put my feet up on the deck too but can't use the skirt anymore I also cut a hole behind the seat for a 115 liter dry bag, for overnighting, I know it's not necessary on your yak post pics when the project gets underway -
the walleye were still surprisingly aggressive we did bump into a few bass, all larger, plump females, didn't see any beds managed 4 lakers, no biggies though, 2 of them came from 4 FOW in shallow bays, the lakers can be tough since they could be anywhere this time of year

sounds like a fun weekend regardless I think Lake Vernon was so turbid because it was turning over

I have a pretty good collection of Ontario fishing and paddling books and I don't think the book you're looking for exists. this isn't likely what your looking for, but my favorite muskie book is "A Compendium of Muskie Angling History" by Larry Ramsell, some fascinating stuff in there
-
it's odd that the MNR would stock splake/ lakers and bows in a naturally reproducing brookie lake regardless, nice catch and it seems like you have a hidden gem there
