  1. good point, with the remoteness extra cautions should be taken the pre-cooked bacon isn't quite as good as the raw stuff, but it's light weight and quick to cook pitas and flat bread seem to stay fresh longer than bread we bring paper plates and burn them after, less dishes
  2. Eddie's Windsor Lake camp on the Attawapiskat in mid July. I've had my eye on that camp for years but couldn't justify the drive to Armstrong. Now that Eddie picked it up, away we go....
  3. there's definitely people here that know a lot more than me on this topic, but a spinner buzzing by will sometimes provoke a reaction strike
  4. no smart phone for me either, and no internet at the cottage, I fish many different bodies of water and sometimes make spontaneous decisions on what lake I'm going to hit I'd pay a little extra when I buy my licence to get a paper copy,
  5. thanks Sinker, I'll check that out (bucket filter), your tips are appreciated
  6. you're definitely not going to get rich selling maple syrup, for me it's just a ritual of early spring, and a good excuse to drink beer around a camp fire the sap was flowing well this Easter weekend in Haliburton we ran it through a coffee filter which seemed to take out most of the smokey flavour breakfast time
  7. Have you done the lower French from Hartley Bay down? There's still the risk of hitting rocks, but not as bad as the Key River to the Bustards. I've got a map I could send you with the major hazard areas marked. It's still great scenery and good fishing but in more sheltered waters. When I did the Bustards I ended up fishing more around where the French River dumps in anyways.
  8. I learned something from watching it, a great way to handle feisty pike is to grab them in the eye sockets very cool old footage, thanks
  9. bring your canoe and shoot video while you run the rapid you guys likely have this, if not, here's a cool site for Trent Severn water levels http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/on/trentsevern/visit/ne-wl/trent_e.asp
  10. it would have been extra cool if you had done the weather report while out on the ice, Haha I hear ya Brian
  11. cool sled Nipfisher, it's like my buddies sleds, they're great in the bush I remember the CO's used those back in the 80's
  12. if the skid frame is straight, the price seems fair, then you could pick-up a 136" track with 1" lugs I'm just wondering how much work is involved to get it working. There's a pretty big difference in the length of the tunnels between the 2 sleds I did a quick search but didn't find anything
  13. do you have any pics of the sled ctdd2006? we like pics, Haha
  14. there was a BR LT up near Powassan on Kijiji a few months ago (long gone now), it was a little rough but I think $1200, but yeah, pretty hard to come by that would be a cool project, it's a long shot, but I'll let you know if I come across a skid frame and track from an LT I met some trappers in the bush, they owned 3 BR LTs, he mentioned that since he put a 1" or 1.25" track on his, deep snow performance is significantly better 3 cottage buddies have older Tundra 250 LTs, very cool sleds but, they are heavier than the BR, they often have mechanical trouble and the steel tunnels rust
  15. that was a great story, crazy adventure, what sled were you riding? I guess the guys flying in for the opening week should bring augers and tip-ups, crazy winter
  16. I'm lucking, I have hundreds of acres of crown land right behind my cottage, the BR 250 LT is great for riding off trail it's hard to believe this was less than 2 weeks ago, it was 24 degrees and summer like today here in Oakville this video will be far more interesting if- 1) you're an off trail snowmobiler 2) you're as high as a kite, Hahaha
  17. I like to have a sip from the flask and then touch a few off just to get into the rhythm, but your answer is the right one anyways, congrats, and all joking aside, be safe
  18. when you get into your tree stand, what is the first thing you do? 1) tie yourself off or 2) take a couple practise shots
  19. Anything going on? Is it worth stopping by next Friday (Good Friday)? thanks
  20. that's like a dream come true, to actually see what's down there, I'd retire that husky jerk and hang it up somewhere cool pics
  21. looks like a great day, no riggers necessary, thanks for posting I've never ate one, what are they like?
  22. I'm definitely not as up to date on the new stuff as other guys here, for me it's a Curado or Calcutta, so for what it's worth, in my opinion, a baitcaster isn't the piece of tackle to try to save a few bucks
  23. a lot of us use http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/region_map.html if the sky is clear, you can watch the ice come in the fall, and go in the spring
  24. I've never had a Jeep Wrangler, I've always wanted one, so I can relate to the OP you guys are talking about mileage, ride, quality issues etc here's my advice, Paudash, you only live once, so what the heck? Maybe if we walk in together and buy 1 each we'll get a better deal???
  25. there's a short cut if you don't mind gravel roads, less than 8 hour drive
