  1. George Lake at Killarney, right where the camp sites are, is an excellent smallmouth fishery. Also an excellent lake trout fishery, but they haven't opened it up for them yet. Wish they would, I'm feeling guilty over my incidental catches. Edit: When I say where the camp sites are, I don't mean offshore from there. You need to canoe out into the lake, but if you want some good spots, just ask.
  2. This is good news, both for the environment and the country: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/fisherie-oceans-department-hiring-research-scientists-1.3577115
  3. Not keen on them either, but they ARE native. I'm wondering if their resurgence may be due to zebra mussels. As far as I know, cormorants are sight feeders, swimming with their eyes open. Anyone who remembers the state of the Great Lakes, and many others, in the 60s, before detergent phosphates were reduced, will understand that there is no way they could have seen anything in that water. Once it cleared up, the way was also clear for their return, and zebra mussels cleared it even more.
  4. And I'm not certain that I want to know. But it is slightly fishing related: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yZrIt0y084
  5. Half way through the funeral service you'll hear "But wait, there's more!"
  6. Very nice!

  9. You can't duck, it's a swan!
  10. Going through some old files, and got some inspiration. I have a number of pictures of rock faces, the Canadian Shield is full of large outcroppings of gneiss, a beautifully textured metamorphic rock. I've used that as a 'canvas', and superimposed other photographs over it using Photomatix HDR software. Still experimenting, but I'm beginning to like the results. The last photo has bark as a canvas.
  11. Is it an HDR program, or does it use one photo at a time?
  12. Come to the Dark Side, we have toast and coffee.

  14. And that puts the capper on it. Fantastic!
  15. Thanks! We'll be camping, haven't yet decided on which campground. Definitely going on some whale watching trips, haven't done that in a while. We used to go to Provincetown for that.
  16. Yeah, same here, I call my set-up 'quick and dirty'. Just put a hook a couple of feet up the line with a palomar knot, and weights on the bottom. You can use split shot, but I've gone to proper drop shot weights because if they get hung up they will just pull off without wrecking the whole rig, ditto for rubber core.
  17. Best thing about Dalrymple: Since it's completely isolated from any other waterbody, you don't get all the touristy boat traffic that the Trent-Severn system gets. Worst thing about Dalrymple: Since it's completely isolated from any other waterbody, you can't get anywhere else without hauling the boat out of the water and trailering someplace else. A little Yin, a little Yang.
  18. Might be taking a few days out in Tadoussac over the August long weekend, and wondering about fishing opportunities. Probably won't go for the expense of a Quebec license, but I've heard that fishing the St. Lawrence is license free as it's federal jurisdiction. Am I correct in that assumption?
  19. Ah, anhinga food!
  20. I explain it by saying that one of the more fundamental rights a person has, is the right to procure their own food if they wish, without being forced to purchase it.. Might make a separate post to explain it in more detail. But yeah, I would include that in a presentation.
  21. This is great news! I was wondering how long my meagre stash would hold out.
  22. Killarney PP has quite a few sites which should be able to take your RV. Go to the reservations page and it should give the proportions of each site, and the maximum RV length. George Lake is an excellent smallmouth fishery, if you need any tips just ask, we've been going there for years.
  23. I'll be listening to nothing but Bowie today. Too many to post. Feeling gutted.
  24. You will never find a better name for an antique store. Just can't be done. Bloomfield, Ontario.
