  1. Some of you may be aware of the annual event held at the Scadding Court Community Centre in Toronto. Each year, the centre's swimming pool is temporarily turned into a fishing pond, and the event is a big hit with the local children. Here's a news article about it: http://metronews.ca/news/toronto/1392257/toronto-swimming-pool-set-to-become-a-fishing-hole-for-local-children/ Well, some animal rights activist has started a petition to prevent it: http://metronews.ca/news/toronto/1393467/animal-rights-activists-outraged-by-indoor-fishing-event-in-toronto/ I have already sent the organiser, Mr. Kevin Lee, an e-mail expressing my support for him, if anyone else wishes to stand up for fishing, you may contact him at: [email protected] My letter: Mr. Lee, I have heard about the attempts to prevent you from holding your annual fishing event, and I wish to let you know that you have my full support. I live in Pickering, so I'm not really able to offer assistance, but might I suggest that to counter the petition, started by Lucas Solowey, that you start a petition yourself. I feel certain that, given the support the event has received over the years, you will be able to gain more signatures, in less time, than he will. I will be attempting to drum up some support for you on a number of fishing related web sites, and wish you every success with the event
  2. Copeland was good, no doubt about it, but as far as major league experience goes he's still basically an unknown quantity. Once the scouting reports roll in the opposition will make adjustments, and he may not be as formidable as he was last night. But it still looked pretty good.
  3. Did a bit of falconry many years ago, and found red-tailed hawks to be such well-mannered birds that you could easily carry them on the fist without a glove.
  4. Time to break up the Blue Jays, this isn't good for baseball.
  5. That is the 2015, but the on-line version. Might be different from the printed one.
  6. Wet a line at Adeline Park yesterday, the garbage was everywhere. And there are plenty of cans for people to use. To whomever was trying out their new Booyah frog bait, you're a filthy litterbug. That package was lighter once you took the lure out, so since you were able to carry it there couldn't you muster up the strength to carry it back?
  7. Lovely!
  8. Okay, page 12 actually.
  9. If it's in red then it's new for this year, right? I still should have seen it, I'll have a peek on-line now.
  10. Okay, wasn't aware of that. I guess the scavengers get a good feed.
  11. Two reasons: 1) Everyone has an 'off day'. 2) I love it when they talk dirty.
  12. Don't look now, but our boys are on a roll. Oh crap, I just jinxed them.
  13. Wow, talk about a 'grey area'. I mean, you're not allowed to use walleye as bait, but you didn't intend to. And if the wounds are enough to kill the walleye, or have killed it, then you have to keep it. And you have to consume it because allowing flesh to spoil is an offence, But what if it falls outside a slot size? Decision time: call a Conservation Officer for a ruling, or hide the evidence and don't tell anyone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dq_FgTp9HQ
  14. I like this, it gives me another excuse to explain getting skunked.
  15. Looks like a great day on the water! Meh, that'll buff out.
  16. It can only get better.
  17. Got this on my facebook feed yesterday and almost jumped out of my chair. Great news!
  18. He looks quite happy!
  19. Or as Commander William T. Riker once said: "When has justice ever been as simple as a rule book?" [/nerd_reference]
  20. Nice to get out on a lovely November day in May, ain't it?
  21. If this 'no picture' rule is as strictly enforced as some claim, then I recently posted a video on this board of me doing something illegal, and I would do it again. The reason? Simple: Last year at Killarney PP I had an incidental catch of a lake trout, which are off limits in George Lake. But I know that the park wants information on lake trout in order to assess the status of the population. So instead of releasing it immediately I measured it, and held it up to my video camera to prove what it was. If I had a scale it would have been weighed as well. When I showed the park warden he wasn't in any mood to ticket me, instead he was almost ready to kiss me. He wanted that information! By the way, the trout in question was last seen swimming back toward the bottom of the lake, in apparently fine condition. The 'zero tolerance' mentality is incompatible with justice, because true justice depends on discretion.
  22. On May 27 there was a theft from The Bait Bucket in Barrie. On the facebook page are videos and stills of the three suspects: https://www.facebook.com/thebaitbucketbarrie
  23. Yep, their web site says it's all of them: http://www.lebaron.ca/english/april8_eng.pdf
  24. The irony is that the guy is a creationist!
  25. In his autobiography 'Catcher in the Wry', Bob Uecker spoke about getting traded to the Phillies: "So I was going to Philadelphia, where at Easter they boo the kids who don't find eggs."
