And ANOTHER thing - in order to make things easier FOR THEM, they want you to BUY a transponder. Then they charge you a monthly fee for OWNING IT, whether you use their road or not. And thanks to the aforementioned EE, everything is legal. I hope to live long enough to defecate on his grave.

407 = legalised extortion. I only use them in situations where the 401 is completely impractical, or if a client will pay a surcharge. And I can't avoid throwing in a political comment: I wonder if Ernie Eves has a Cayman Islands bank account that grew fatter off that sale. Had a big run-in with them last year. I was driving near their office, so I decided to drop in and pay my bill. Didn't have the actual bill with me, but so what? They should know how much I owe. Yeah, they do, but they won't tell me. WHAT? THE? heck Yeah, they won't tell you the amount of your bill. Why, I asked. They just don't. Is this any way to run a business, I asked. Well, the representative replied, I don't know of any other business who operates that way. I repeat: WHAT? THE?heck Do you mean to tell me that when I go to Loblaws they don't total up the amount at the register? Instead, do they expect me to add it all up myself, including taxable items, and tell them how much I'm supposed to pay?! When I get my car serviced, am I supposed to figure out the cost of all the parts and labour, and tell them how much I owe? It ended in a screaming match, and I came very close to saying things that would have had me incarcerated. Then I stormed out. I found out that I can set up with my bank to pay through an ATM, so that's what I do now. No more dealing with quasi-criminals who shouldn't be allowed to operate a lemonade stand. The question stated in the original post title is rhetorical: everyone who uses it is stiffed by its very existence.

No, the proof is on MY dashboard! NF

I love the thing, but it does some crazy stuff. It seems to have a bit of a blind spot up on Horseshoe valley Road, sometimes it will indicate that I'm half a kilometre into the south fields and a few hundred metres below sea level. -
Regarding Brain B's post about his fuel consumption, here's one you ain't gonna believe, no way, no how. According to my GPS here's my top speed achieved, and average speed. Not bad for a 2007 Mazda 6 wagon.

Couple of weeks ago I was pulled over on the 401 by OPP. He said a trucker had wanted him to see if I was okay to drive. Reason? I was the only one doing dead on 100km/h. I was well east of Toronto, traffic was light, and I stayed in the right-hand lane. No problem going around me if anyone wanted to. I told him I was on my way to Cornwall, and doing the same 120km/h as everyone else would suck a lot of gas. He agreed, and said have a nice day.

Why would Ford want to be seen associating with Harper? Has he been smoking crack? Oh, wait...

The more take-offs and landings you do, the more you increase the chance of something going wrong. Better to risk a few fish than an aircraft and crew. It also would take a lot more time. There's also the possibility that some of those waterbodies would be too small to land or take-off.

Strawberry Island, at the north end of Lake Simcoe, is currently threatened by a possible condominium development. Details, and a petition to stop it, are here: https://www.change.org/p/township-of-ramara-keep-the-rural-zoning-designation-for-strawberry-island-in-lake-simcoe-ontario?tk=c7dMsWE6nHDvecM2b3Nv1gK__1j9lr8jRZspVGnCnT0&utm_source=petition_update&utm_medium=email

Another Political thread...groan!

I support any government scientist who speaks out. This government is provably and undeniably anti-science, and needs to be taken down. -

No, he is OUR employee. This government has been muzzling scientists for a long time, and it's getting worse. -
Yeah, it's a thing. Cue screams of outrage from P3TA in 3... 2... 1... https://vimeo.com/139723072

I believe that if you hand your ballot back to the electoral official and say "I refuse this ballot", it has to be counted as a refused ballot, not lumped in with the others.

It might help us if we looked at it with a different perspective. These people are not crossing the sea in rickety boats because they want to live in Europe or North America. They are doing it because they can no longer live in their homeland. We should be addressing the issues that cause wars, and cause people to flee. It isn't easy to look at an even larger and more complex situation, but sooner or later we must.

Since I'm weighing in, I should get my bona fides on display. Born here in '53, to parents who emigrated from England. Ethnic background is English with a dash of Welsh. Does that make me 'old stock'? Since Mr. Harper was probably using a dog whistle term for 'white European', I suspect he would include me. And thanks, but no thanks. I don't want to be included in his definition of Canadian.

Because a turban is not a cap, it's a religious symbol. Asking them to remove it would be no different than asking catholic veterans to remove a crucifix from around their neck. And those turbans were worn by soldiers in battle, who acquitted themselves admirably In both World Wars, fighting for your freedom.

I've posted this before, but here it is again: I always have at least two copies of this on me, in a zip-lock bag. Haven't had to hand one out yet, but if I do, and the person throws it away, I have the second copy to show to the police officer I call:

In some countries there is. But there is no law saying that the whales have to stay away from you.

Not sure. The piers only opened to the public a few months ago, so there may be little or no experience among local anglers. I've taken walks down there and along the piers a few times, never seen anyone fishing.
