They look like they will work, what wood are you using for the bodies? My only suggestion would be to use larger hooks but then again I am a large hook kinda guy. Dan

So game fish in your freezer count toward your possession limit. Live game fish in your aquarium count toward your daily limit. Does a real mounted game fish count towards possession? What about fish buried in the rose garden? Just thinking out loud really. Dan

Thanks for some great fishing memories Mother

Wow read this: Fish attack swimmers I like the part where they serve the fish to the tourists. Must be a slow news day. Dan

From an e-mail I received: Class lll Hitch Install... (patent pending..) Wouldn't you love to see how the trip went...? Good chance he ended up doin' some unintended off roadin' somewhere. Check the 'hills' in the background. Howja like to meet this rig on a two-lane road....coming down the mountain in your direction...? She's hitched up and r eady to roll!! Amazin' how the extra weight smoothes out the ride.. Needed to air up the rear tires a bit ('bout 160 psi). Added some super heavy-duty chain for extra support on the tailgate, (note the 'Heavy-Duty 'S' hooks to attach the chain) Also paid-up for some BIG Number 5/16 sheet metal screws to attach the Reese hitch frame to the tailgate (see 'em there? one on each side...) and two more through the carpet into the floor pan inside.... Yep, probably overkill, but didn't want the possibility of having an axerdent. Most of the time was spent on the front porch whittling down that MASSIVE solid pine 4x4 to fit precisely down into the hole in the ball mount receiver. Note also - The 14'x14' piece of 3/8' plywood on the underside of the tailgate to distribute the load more evenly and beef up that tailgate support . 'A MAN CAN'T BE TOO SAFE'...!! They are out there, folks... and they vote... and they reproduce !

Probably the first thing you checked but: Is there a starter relay in the system, separate from the starter? Had a similar problem in a Tempo, give the starter relay a whack and it would work a couple times, replaced the relay and no more problems. Dan

Excellent idea for a vacation. Get on the rental right away! Houseboats on Temagami were all booked by February in past years. The only downside to Three Bouys is that they are right in the town of Temagami on the east arm of the lake and it is a 20 km float to the main hub of the lake. We rented from Ketcheneny a couple times a few years back, not sure if they are still around - nice boats and great people to deal with. Tips: - The fridge on the boat is propane and small, bring decent coolers, ice and frozen food. - We brought our fishing boat and towed it, the house boat was slow (under 10 kph) and Temagami is big (40 km+ top to bottom) we would find a site to anchor then use our fishing boat to travel from there though the day. - Get a map of Lake Temagami that shows shore campsites, great places to anchor and you can have a campfire at night - if there is no fire ban. - I would get up early and travel by houseboat while making and eating breakfast and getting ready for our day, once we were ready we would anchor and go. - The north shore of Ferguson Bay is a huge sand beach, you can wade out a long ways. - Run the house boat at about 3/4 throttle rather than full open and it uses about 1/2 the fuel from point to point. - Tons of smallmouth bass near shorelines, especially near beaver lodges. - Pickerel fishing is best in the evening in August, find a hump and jig with worms or twisters - The Perseid meteor showers peak around mid August, bring your beds up to the top deck of the houseboat and sleep under the stars watching for meteors. By responding you are acknowledging her opinion, so the best response in no response, she is just looking for attention anyway. Dan -
Lots of good places to fish on the Grand, but like many places the location of the fish changes with the water conditions, weather and season, a lure or spot that is good one day is dead the next. The nice thing about a canoe is you can drift and cast along the shore and any structure, near the dams can also be productive. Dan

I have been using the Garmin GPSMAP 60 with Topo Canada maps and it has worked well. With MapSource on the computer I make waypoints and upload them to the GPS, I also print the corresponding maps to take along. Once I am ready to start on the water or in the bush I use the GPS to get heading and distance, set the heading on the compass get a bearing and go. Like Holdfast said - keep your head up and pay attention to your surroundings. If you are bushwacking for lakes; streams can be good to follow if it isn't too marshy and use some flagging tape on the way in to make the backtrack quicker. Dan

Acids from wood like cedar, redwood, and oak can attack metal if they get wet and don't stay sealed, pressure treated lumber will also cause corrosion. If you are not leaving the boat exposed to the elements, standard plywood will be fine if you keep a coat of paint on it. Be sure to check the hardware after the first couple uses to make sure it is still tight. Dan

Great job: Get rid of the steel plate and have your welder customer weld the hull and transom cracks and then weld doublers in place over the repairs - if he knows welding he can do it right. Keep in mind the clearance for the bolt heads in the transom brackets. Like was already mentioned; glue together two pieces of 3/4" plywood for the transom and seal and paint it. Get your repairs done, get it painted, in the water, and go fishing with your Grandpa, after you use it for a while the minor dents and scratches will blend - its called character. Dan Enjoy the time you spend with your Grandpa.

Broke new spinning reel.Any sugestion to fix it?
dannyboy replied to idesign's topic in General Discussion
My advice is to replace it; the last thing you want is to have it fail when you are fighting the fish of a lifetime. If do you repair it; be sure to carefully check the rest of the reel for damage, the magnitude of force that snapped it would likely cause other defects. Dan -
Hi Lew: ICOM makes good units. Many integrate with a GPS so you can send and receive GPS positions with others or it will automatically broadcast your position and distress signal if you activate the distress button. Price starts about about $150 CND for the unit plus $60 for an antenna. Dan

Come-on guys: Vertical is plumb, horizontal is level, strait is straight (unless water is involved), a motor uses electricity, hydraulic fluid or compressed air, an engine uses fuel, real engines burn kerosene, and gasoline is for washing parts. Sorry, I got caught up in the moment. Dan
