Do any of the new "power" type baits contain any fish parts or anything that would make them to be considered organic? Thanks Dan

I have been using SeaFoam for a while and it works great to de-carb my outboards. You can buy it at most Carquest stores. Website Dan

Cell phones vary their output power depending on the signal strength in the area. If you are in an area with marginal cell coverage, it is best to turn the cell off untill you need it, if you don't have a charger available. It tends to drain the battery quickly keeping in touch with the tower. Dan

Gerrit: If the AM/FM antennas are receive only, no worry about spacing. If they transmit, 20 - 30 inches should work, you can test this by hitting the transmit button on the transceiver and watching the GPS to make sure it doesn't go off line - be sure to check the top, middle and low frequencys. We picked up some $2 off coupons at LeBaron in Mississauga. Dan

Any spot in Algonquin is great, there are fish everywhere. Pick a spot, make your plans and enjoy. We alway find ourselves making plans for our next trip on the way home from the last one. Dan

If you would just go by helicopter you would see fine and the ride is great. BTW Hamilton's designator is YHM. Dan

Sorry Wayne, I have lots of respect for any pilot. With rotary wing aircraft we just have the pilot point the nose into the wind and land. Dan

Crosswind isn't an issue when you fly a real aircraft. Dan

We hang our food barrel a little way from camp just out of habit any time we camp or canoe. No food or anything involved with food in the tent as a precaution. Keep you camp clean of any dropped food. As for wildlife in Algonquin there are bears, moose, deer, wolves and other assorted animals, other than raccoons we have never been bothered. There have been bear and wolf attacks but they are rare. Like anything else in life be cautious but not paranoid. We keep an eye out but more for the privilege of seeing the animals in their natural environment. Dan

Make sure you check the regs before you go. You are not allowed to use minnows for bait anywhere in Algonquin and some lakes are artificial bait only. Dan

Thanks, I am in Wainfleet and will be coming in from the south, so I won't be close to Fishing World. Dan

We are going to the Mandarin near the corner of Rymal Road and Upper James in Hamilton. Is Pro Gear still in business on Upper Ottawa? I can't seem to find any info and the phone is out of service. If not, are there any fishing stores in that area? Thanks Dan

You have a great talent for writing; your posts include the entire experience, not just the fishing. As a reader I feel I am sharing your adventure. Thanks Dan -
Stoty: If you PM me your e-mail I can send you an Alogonquin map in PDF. It has the access points, lakes and portages on it, it is a bit older and some of the portages have changed but will give you a general idea. Dan

Corey hit it right on. Depending on were you want to be, look for property on top and a ways back from the escarpment. I work in Beamsville and live in the Wainfleet area on 10 acres, decent housing prices, lots of space, about a 1/2 hour drive but no traffic. If you want more urban look at Smithville, lots of new housing going up there, the only downside is the lack of ammenities; nobody knows what the town does with the taxes it collects. Dan

HUKD: Rapala Count Downs 3's or 5's was the advice I got from DanC a bit ago and they work great. Another lure for casting of trolling are the EBG Black & Gold with the red dots. In april bring along a fly rod if you have one and use streamers, muddlers or any baitfish type fly. Dan

Stoty: You can catch smallies pretty much everywhere in Algonquin, beaver lodges almost guaranty a couple, they can get a little wormy in warmer weather though. For eating you may want to target Lake Trout which require gear that will get down deep unless you go in the spring when the trout are near the surface. Be sure to bring along some food in case the weather gets nasty or the fish aren't biting - to get to the interior of the park requires you to portage which burns lots of energy. I don't know your level of canoe experience but if this your first trip I wouldn't recommend going solo. Lots of information here: Canadian Canoe Routes Dan ps: since when are 'bathroom items' essential gear on a canoe trip?

The coordinates you posted don't include seconds ( " ) so they are accurate to about a mile, with seconds they would be accurate to about 100 feet. GPS units use decimal seconds and are accurate to inches. Dan

"Remembrance Day is a holiday for federal government employees; for private business, provincial governments, and schools, its status varies by province: in Western Canada and Atlantic Canada, it is a general holiday; in Ontario and Quebec, it is not, although corporations that are federally registered may make the day a full holiday, or instead, designate a provincially-recognized holiday on a different day" many places opt to take the August 1 civic holiday in lieu. It seems most would have a warm holiday in the summer as opposed to standing around in the cold to honour our Veterans. Dan

Not a good week for helicopters, I heard a news bird went down Friday evening near Cambridge can't seem to find any information on it though Dan -
Not that I agree with what is happening but the Township must have or have had some type of authority; I have to buy a Township license to hunt rabbits and pheasants in addition to my hunting license. Not fishing I know but similar. The MNR enforces this. Dan
