Rude fishermen infringe on cottage enjoyment
dannyboy replied to FlyGuy5's topic in General Discussion
Cottagers are group of people who the politicians know pay property taxes and, whether right or wrong, feel that by paying those taxes they should receive some benefit, property ownership also includes certain 'rights'. We as fishermen, on the other hand, pay a relatively small fee compared to property taxes for a license which allows us the 'privilege' of fishing. Privileges are much easier to take away than rights under law - so who do you think will win in the end? The golden rule says that the ones with the most gold make the rules. It is the 1% of fishermen that are the problem, just like it was the 1% of boaters that lead to the ridiculous concept of the boaters card. Dan -
Cutting is a bad idea. Why don't you use some of the excellent advice in this post? Dan

Rude fishermen infringe on cottage enjoyment
dannyboy replied to FlyGuy5's topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately what is going to happen is cottagers are going to get the law changed about fishing docks, and then us smug fishermen who beak off on fishing forums are going to loose another battle. As Lew mentioned a little common sense goes a long way, however common sense is no longer common. Dan -

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

From what I have learned as far as salmon (excepting Atlantics I guess) in Lake Ontario go they are put and take and will not viably reproduce. They are Pacific salmon introduced purely for sport fishing, and it is a healthy sport fishery that enable the stocking programs in the US and Canada both through volunteer and government actions. Sure does and it can happen fast, here is the type of project I spend time putting back together:

"Although I hear he hit the dock still doing 40 knots!" 40 knots? dang, he'd be darn near airborne, well up on-step anyway. Was he trying to land on the dock!? Dan

Can a new car starter wrongly installed drain a battery
dannyboy replied to mr blizzard's topic in General Discussion
It would be hard to wire a starter incorrectly, many have just the one wire with the solenoid mounted elsewhere. Is it possible the battery was partially discharged and the 1/4 mile drive back home wasn't enough to recharge the battery? Make sure the battery cables are tight. What was wrong with the starter that was replaced? Dan -

Had a fantastic day on the water Sunday with Lloyd (fishhunter on OFC) On the water by 5 am, it didn't take long for the first hookup and from there on the fishing was awesome. Lloyd kept us catching fish steady all day and the class of fish was fantastic. The highlight of our day was our kids catching fish, Mark wasn't so keen at first but enjoyed himself, one salmon peeled off close to 200 feet of line and took several other runs but his arms held out. The smile tells all. Marie loves to fish and really enjoyed herself, dad lent a hand, not that she needed the help and Lloyd showed her how to hold the fish Once she got the hang of things there was no looking back (Mom caught fish too but is camera shy) Our day on the water seemed to end too soon, Lloyd was clearing up and had explained to us that he always fished to the end, sure enough as he was getting ready to bring in the last rods we had a hit and this rainbow must have been half tarpon as it seemed to spend more time out of the water than in it, Lloyd is top of the line guide and you can tell he has his clients best interests in mind, from safety and comfort to working at getting us on fish, to his knowledge of the water and the fish. You can tell a professional by how easy they make their job look. The boat is comfortable, clean and well maintained and equipment is in great shape, I don't know how many 100s of spoons and other lures he has but they sure did the trick. Lloyd cleaned and packaged the chinooks, coho and rainbows we kept, some destined for the smoker tonight. We had a fantastic day on the water and want to thank Lloyd for making it possible. Dan

If the fuel was 10% ethanol and the sample was 1/2 water/alcohol and 1/2 fuel; something happened other than fuel separation. Either the sample was taken from the bottom of the sump or there is water being introduced into the fuel system some other way. Dan

Run the SeaFoam through first to flush the fuel system after that change the plugs and clean the carb. Dan

Like Burt says go for the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker; pulled pork, brisket, turkey, salmon, bacon you name it. Easy to use, keep clean and store, once you get the hang of it you can have it cook overnight. Nothing like smoking a Fatty or Atomic Buffalo Turds. Dan
