Is this fake news?? I sure hope so -
What type of drill would I need for a ice auger?
Hack_Fisherman replied to tender52's topic in General Discussion
True, I think only one of the only lifetime warranties out there...for now. Most of my (electric) woodworking power tools are Rigid now. CT Mastercraft tools are now only 1 year. I just took my “guaranteed for life” mastercraft torque wrench in for replacement only to get a 1 year guarantee on the new one. -

That’s awesome -
Beautiful job!

agreed on the foam board. Pour in is ok unless you have to trim off any that ballooned out which defeats the bouyancy as you have exposed the cells. pvc conduit is a good way to run wires you may need to fish out later. Bends beautifully with a heat gun

age old discussion....Mercury vs Yamaha
Hack_Fisherman replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
But no Yammy exp? I’m a Toyota owner and about to pickup a 4Runner. There is a reason for it as they routinely pass 400+ on factory drivelines. Kijiji is chock full of US trucks and SUV’s with motors or transmissions that couldn’t reach 300k, or were nearly dead. Japanese mfg has always been better (IMO) I’m into Johnnyrudes right now, but the big switch down the road will only be Yammy, Suzuki or Honda only -

I’d not trust that one. Suggest stepping up to contractors grade with all aluminum gearbox. CT only carries homeowner grade. Can’t speak for Milwaukee -
Navionics+ vs Navionics Hotmaps Platinum
Hack_Fisherman replied to 410001661's topic in General Discussion
Not sure how detailed the stuff is you are looking at but I found the Helix7 Navionics was nowhere as good as the free trial i put on my iphone. I was disappointed to find the Helix wasn't able to do the same thing (super fine contour etc) -
Canadian online boat & marine suppliers?
Hack_Fisherman replied to Hack_Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Because this is the best site I've seen for boat building supplies, I'm adding a llnk to this, unfortunately it is NOT Canadian. I'm waiting to hear back if they ship north of the border and without UPS (short for ultimate Postal Scam). https://tbnation.net/collections/shop -
I buy everything for cash. Buying a brand new boat for me is not in the cards. No payments, no interest. I move up by buying and selling, upgrading etc.

I have to duct tape my wallet and put the horse blinders on when I go in. I’ve had great dealings with them too

It was nearly impossible to buy a used 60 or 70hp 2stroke motors this year. Or at least older, usable ones. There was literally nothing out there
-
It’s glass??? My hat is off to you Sir! I’ll only touch aluminum...glass boats go directly to the dump. Good on you for reviving one. Beautiful job and beautiful boat

Would you get an evinrude motor still?
Hack_Fisherman replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
Not unless 50% of msrp or better. The price would have to be very attractive a) they are still not a 4 stroke b) no assurances of factory support or replacement part supply. I tend to keep my purchases until they are used up c) I had a die hard looper racer tell me they blow up and bottom ends are weak (that might be for racing however) -

There will always be the same thing as the Ford/GM/Dodge argument. I’m using a 45 year old Merc that I just pulled to put out to pasture. Would I buy another, sorry...Yammy, Honda or Zuki if new. Used? Can’t find one. Nothing out there this year. What’s that tell you? Lots of dead or tired OMC or Mercs out there. Especially VRO OMCs with wasted power heads. -
I just got about the same out of my boat. I hope I see similar performance gains.
-
Hope I’m not hijacking, great looking job. Can you tell me if that is a vent or a drain? Just ripped all the floors out of my boat. Rotten to the core. Wondering if I need air circulation down below

It’s the coy dogs I’d be taking aim at around here. Lately they’ve been milling about town right at peoples doorsteps at pre-dawn as people are heading out to dog walk before work

Live in Keswick ? Check your car/truck
Hack_Fisherman replied to misfish's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I was just making a joke about hooking it up to live electricity. If you didn’t like 110/115 volt jolt, imagine 600v -

Good CHEAP USED 4 x 4 SUVs or pick ups?
Hack_Fisherman replied to Hack_Fisherman's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I know it’s a bit of an older thread but I’ve been back browsing the Jiji to see what cheap 4x4 beaters there are out there and I was shocked to see the prices on the old ‘80’s Jeep Wagoneers!! butt ugly with wallpaper wood grain everywhere and prices on the moon! I am shocked. Had I known what the prices would do, I would have started grabbing them up 10 years ago and storing them. Wow. I never would have considered that utes and 4x4’s would appreciate in value like this. I really like the old land cruisers and 4runners of the 80’s/90’s too. Are all the old 4x4 vehicles of the era in some sort of cult status or just starting to elevate to classic vehicle pricing? And the rust belt must have devoured the rest...broncos, bronco ll’s, lil and big blazers...all long gone. So, what’s the next collectible 4x4? I might look to spend a little more for a good rust free driver or resto worthy SUV for boat towing and camping (no winters) -
That’s a dream fish for many right there. The smile says it all

Late season location ideas Southwest/Central ont?
Hack_Fisherman replied to Hack_Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
THanks. We’ve decided to try trolling in and out of the Saugeen and if that’s a bust, that’s our backup plan. Would like to check out both actually -
My Son wants to go fishing this weekend before I put the boat away. The three local lakes near me are toast / drained for the season (reservoirs). Looking for productive waters that are say within 1.5 hours of Guelph. Wondering if trolling in front of the river mouths on lake O or Huron would be good, or if they would be mostly run and done. Smaller lakes for pike and bass would be good too. Thoughts?
