  1. I see your battery life is all over the map too Thanks David.
  2. Like most, I started in my youth with my parents telling me what to use. They were bass anglers. So I learned that a jitterbug was a good evening top water bait. Well, I wanted to fish more then just at dusk so I would cast off the dock at my grandmother's cottage all the time. Finally my dad decided to teach me how to drive a boat, a tinner but still, considering I was still under 10 this was huge for me. When he felt I had the ability to dock it in the worst winds is when he decided I can go out fishing on my own in it. It hit up all the spots they would at dusk and had to learn how to use baits like a rapala, a spoon and or jig. It was hard for me seeing as I was solo trying to learn. Then my cousin up the lake and I would go out from time to time and I learned more. My uncle would come to the cottage as I got older and we would go fishing and he would show me 'his spots' that my parents didn't fish and I learned some more. Hell I even won a local Haliburton Bass derby with a HUGE rockbass the beat out some of the SMB weighed in. Then as I got older (teens) I lost the LOVE for it. I'd still cast a line here and there but I didn't care anymore. I forget how old I was when the spark light back up (I'm 46 now) but I would hazard to guess I have been back into fishing for the past 20 years but my fishing has taken on a new look. I went from bass only to adding walleye, musky, perch and other panfish to my game. I am still learning every time I pick up a rod and tie on a lure. Yeah there are lures you are going to catch a bass with like a senko BUT I like to try new things and try and figure out what that fish really wants to eat. I guess that's why I have about 80lbs of different soft plastics...
  3. I'm going to guess Bill's lol was to the following: damn, if we'd just hurry up and make everything concrete and asphalt we wouldn't have these problems
  4. Microsoft and Windows 7 support... Oh wait, that's Bill who's trying to save the world so...
  5. I hear ya S and this is part of the reason I asked, is it the next big thing. My folks live 10 houses away from the boat ramp where they live, not a cottage and they are not able to put the boat in. Yes they are in cottage country but you get my point. However anyone with a kayak could walk one down the launch and have at it.
  6. My statement here is Chris has been there 5 weeks. 4 weeks ago is when they urged us not to travel. He's done NO wrong IMO. Chris, I hope you and the Fam. have a great time and enjoy these times and memories and stay safe. Hell, I can't even walk out front my door here in Lindsay for a smoke with out a car passing by every minute and I'm not on a main road. As for cottage traffic, Lindsay is a 'pass through' town so I have seen it. My folks are on a small lake near burnt river and I bet if I call them tomorrow (well today as it's late as I post this) I bet they will say the lights on the lake probably went up by 30+% in the past week or more. Safe bet on those numbers. People just don't care, they are fed up and want to go were they 'can' go even if asked no to travel. Here I sit. Beer in hand, smoke in the other. River in town is closed. *sigh* I guess I better get back to bed or on the ClubWPT poker site and win some cash...
  7. I just got me a Helix 5 Chirp DI GPS unit (won it) and I cannot wait to use it to replace my old 525. I have already had to contact the warranty dept. with a concern I had and they shipped me a new part no questions asked. I have tinkered with it from time to time as I set it up as a portable unit and it looks easy to use. But if I was to go spend a LOT on a new unit I think I would like to go touch screen. So much faster to mark spots vs looking for a button.
  8. Well, by mid May I might be heading to visit your buddy so I can wait...
  9. Hey, I asked for dibbs on that
  10. Naw, I am sure he is going to check in from time to time when he want's to.
  11. VERY nice, I'll take 5 please.
  12. Thanks guys. I still have yet to figure out my plans as there is a boat I hope to see in about 30 days or so BUT I can also wait and see how things work out. For now, asking to learn. Please keep the feedback coming and sadly my #5 is not a G2N...
  13. Have a very Happy Birthday Mr B!
  14. I left me house today, I went for a drive with the Mrs. You know where I went? To the pharmacy. Yeah, my Dr thinks I may have pneumonia not CV-19. So he sent a RX for pills and a puffer for that. He is following up with me in a week. If I'm not feeling better by then I am to go to the hospital and report as to what I have been doing and taking. I have been in my house since Mar 18th doing nada. In that time I found 2 of my warm mist humidifiers that are filter-less to have a dark brown almost black wet mold in them (we found them in this state Wed evening when going to fill them for the night). One in my bedroom and one in the hall. So with that said, check your filter-less systems folks.
  15. I am just trying to plan for both aspects, boat and or kayak. Boat, I can leave the 2D on for speed, unhook the head unit and have the other as a portable unit is all. And if I can figure out a way on a boat to network a HB Helix 5 Chirp DI GPS to another HB then I am all for it too. My Helix 5 only has the 3 plug in's on the back so I don't think I can network it BUT I haven't really looked down that path yet. Thanks all and please keep the input coming. It's not like ALL of us are super busy these days so the more guidance I can get the better.
  16. I want all the toys Terry... HAHAHA. I just want to make sure they work together and give me the best results I can hope for.
  17. Hi all question here regarding transducer # XNT 9 DI T. I am reading mixed things that this unit doesn't work the best under faster speeds. True? If so, what other unit should I be looking at for my HELIX 5 CHIRP DI GPS G2? Should I run two with a Y cable? Thanks all as this newer gear is all new to me as my last HB unit was a fishfinder 525.
  18. Very nice fish!
  19. This is getting a lot of traffic on Facebook too. I see a large loss in the show's fan base about to start...
  20. I prefer a 4" grub with those, casting and slowly bring it back to the boat.
  21. He lives in the Kawartha's now and still has that Mako, it's 30 years old according to a post of his in Nov 2019
  22. No the current run is hair dye. But this knoll you speak of has my interest peeked...
  23. I am happy to see this topic going so well. I thank you all for the replies.
  24. I am in a prize draw for this one. The Catch 120 by Pelican. https://www.pelicansport.com/ca_en/the-catch-120-krp12p208 I really hope I win it to take it to the river when I move in 20 some odd days. Dutch thanks for the chat yesterday as I totally see your aspect to using one, hence why I am trying for one in the online raffle. I already have my rods and my Hummingbird Helix 5 so my added costs to rig it won't be crazy. Even if I don't win this one, I might rent one (when we can) and see if it's for me and if so buy this unit if it's stable seeing how I have vertigo issues every now and then... *edit to add* PS the raffle is only $40 a spot and there is only 37 spots to buy so wish me luck!
