  1. Ronnie takes the rod and fights it like a pro. A bit of a screamer and a bunch of head shakes... and I'm talking about Ronnie! Funny and true story Brian. Sometimes just takes others to put your own fishing into a right perspective. Good on ya!
  2. Enjoyed that little diddy Jim. You should report more often... or at least anytime ya can. Good fishing and yes, that ski was a fatty!
  3. I like the Sealine's... and no issues of yet with the Accudepths. Tekotas are great but I wouldn't outfit myself with a fleet of them... maybe just one for muskies and big arctic lakers. The oldest I own is a Cabelas DepthMaster Gold. These reels go on sale now and again, and I have to say the one I have has given no problems. I thought Daiwa made them for Cabelas, but I could be wrong..?
  4. Truth is Rick, you couldn't really go wrong with either. Both quality machines. Have ridden a number of Grizzly's over the years because Yamaha is what the local dealer in Moosonee sold. That said, Northern Stores was the competetion and they sold Bombardier/Skidoo/products and so I got a taste for an Outlander. Friend of mine who's had both brands plus a Cat and Honda in the past couldn't really say one way or another what is a hands-down winner as they all have little pros and cons. If choosing a two-up your decision would be easier because IMO Bomby's are the best and most comfortable out there, but you're not... so you have two equal choices on your hands.
  5. Caught this a little earlier today Matt and gotta say it was very well done. Enjoyed the pics and read. The Skat is a "magical" place as you say.
  6. How will you ever get any work done with that kind of distraction around? Dan in a speckie factory... sounds like sensory overload for you dood.
  7. Geez... already thought those MNR doods were sneaky enough sneaking around when sneaking up on me. Sneaky sneaky freaks. Now they'll just drive by, pick my pocket, run my card, drive by again and put it back... and alls I'll think is I got a wee bit of Arctic draft up my sneaky sneaky.
  8. Some good fishing and a nice PB laker Jacques. Haven't had luck with the Macho on lakers, just the eyes. Paul's always getting into quality bass too. Good to see ya enjoying the summer.
  9. Good show Cliff. Another fishing experience under your belt.
  10. Congrats Mike.
  11. My condolences Al.
  12. Good looking bass Rob. And the pics are always ultra-cool.
  13. This is one from you Pete I'll remember for some time. You and Andrew crushed it out there... and to think, six guys three fish the year before, to that!!! You've done your homework, changed the plan, built on previous experience and I can imagine next years trip will be something even greater to enjoy here. Well done and solid 48 dood.
  14. Great fish Lew. Lakair usually is good to you each year.
  15. When two muskie nuts cross paths eh!?!?! That is SICK fellas!!! Congrats on a couple levels. This is a cool shot.
  16. Thoroughly enjoyed from this end Dan & Dan. That is one beautiful area to spend a few days and obviously worth it for the fish too. Nice seeing Dan out with ya and give him a congrats on his retirement.
  17. Ummm the red and white one, or... the red and white one. lol. OK... this is a serious thread and I fudged it up with a little funny. I'll stop now. No disrespect to George or anyone else. Just joking around a minute.
  18. Pics are immense now. Like reading a report at the Friendly Giant's Castle. lol.
  19. That milky white complexion of yours Terry is completely browned over now dood! You HAVE been fishing lots this summer. Great day any day you can get out with a buddy and get some fish. Wind or no winds looks like the dynamic duo had fun again.
  20. Agree with all that's said, and thanks George for the kind words. Plenty 50's to ya this season bud. This is a great site, have always liked it here, and people for the greater part have always been kind with me. It's been good making friends over the years with some whom I've met in person, and also with some I haven't, yet in this community we get on together so well. Usually read reports first, then fishing, then non-fishing topics, but I think it's very well having all a great hodge-podge which keeps so many people interested in the site, and continuing to be a part of it. There are some bigger things too within this place, which certainly touch many of us deeper than we could ever expect some online fishing forum would. It can often be a testament to the good in many people, a willingness to share, support, belong, have pride, contribute... etc. And only at OFC could I post this picture of me cutting the grass and peeing on my flowers and lawn in peace, and 100's of people look at it, laugh and KNOW exactly where I'm coming from.
  21. This is actually a band of my teenage youth who's album was likely almost "Classic" Rock by the time I was born. Dad's collection was awesome but the first five I grabbed were, Foghat, Pink Floyd's The Wall, ZZ Top's La Grange, Saturday Night Fever and Deep Purple's Machine Head. I liked them in that order too. Foghat's album was my Saturday morning music. 4, 5, maybe 6 years highschool and college, I had a mindless job driving a van, picking up and delivering groceries, putting in orders, stocking shelves... I could do it blindfolded and drunk but I was usually sorta hungover and fuzzy-eyed from getting in way late on Friday nights. When I recorded the LP onto cassette I actually screwed up and put the B-Side on first, making this tune the one that kicked off my driving EVERY saturday. It was probably my favorite then, but the whole album has a tonne of miles with me and I love it still. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1fMH1rQJJA Anyways, couple more pictures I liked, so I'll throw 'em in here to get locked down into the report someplace.
  22. Foghat's Foghat was one of the first 5 LP's of my dad's that I borrowed and recorded to cassette in my teens. Love that album. Had the same gar question on a private board elsewhere too Joe. Catching bigger gar in the 48-55 inch range is similar to catching pike of 35-40+ inches. Caught a fair share of both on basically the same gear. By length/weight the average 40-inch pike is about 16 pounds, (range 12-20) while the average 50-inch gar is about 15-16 (range 14.5-17.5) Simple physics is that two equal masses pulling against a same resistance should result in similar force needed against, right? Though either species will have that odd fish which will totally surprise you and give a better or worse test than you calculated for. I’d give advantage to the pike for speed and stamina, yet gar can certainly be more aerial and cunning. Yet with gar, it’s the sight-fishing and hunting aspect, getting them to take, visualizing that, and keeping them hooked which makes them their own unique kind of challenge, so what they might lose in fight they make up for in character. But oddly still, they're rather similar in fight time and their ability to surprise you with several good runs. You’re right too Joe, catching smaller gar is quite boring because there is no fight. I’d say 45-inchers and up is where things get interesting, but 50 and beyond is where it’s at. The story of Townsend Miller’s battle with the 72-inch, 50 pound World Record can be read here... http://www.tpwmagazine.com/archive/2008/nov/legend/ The length/weight conversion chart for longnose gar and other gars is here... The fish I’ve weighed and measured relate more with the 1962 chart but are often found somewhere inbetween it and the 2000 chart. http://www.garfishing.com/weighttables.html Also, caught some short video of a 20+ pound gar reel peeling me during a great fight last year...
  23. Great first pic of Alex with the Keystone, the expression... he's like... "GOLD!!!" Cool shots.
  24. Lake Simcoe!?!?!? Never heard of it. Looks like a big lake though, any fish in it? Thanks for posting. I'll have to look it up.
  25. Hoping for your family to have many Temagami sunrises and sunsets together Wayne, in the brightest of futures. Wishing Jen strong and well.
