  1. Save yourself a headache and get the pumps. If you want a longer work time you change hardener not the ratio. Work in small batches if you have to and one mixing while the other lays it down helps. Foam brushes are handy but they fall apart fast so get a bag full. I would use a regular brush and wipe down with a foam one. Lots of stir sticks and anything else you can think of, last thing you want to do is go looking for stuff once you get going. When you get done you can come help me cover my old canoe if I ever get it ready.
  2. Opening day for eyes we go down to the boat at around 9;00 and it don't look like their bitin , over half the boats we could see were bass fishing.
  3. Actually Roy the canoeist may not be fault free by crossing a channel and impeding the flow of traffic. If the canoe swamped and this ended up in court it might go 50/50. WE are so lucky in Ca. to have so much water available to us but we mistakenly claim to have a territory around our boat and judge others according to our feelings and not the boating regs. I had a boat fly by me about 15' away and not rock my boat at all because the hull was out of the water, speed doesn't always = wake. Deep v's give less wake the faster they go. Whenever you hear a complaint that starts I was in a channel its never that clear cut. When I was commander of the local power squadron I'd get all kinds of complaints about the cops playing chicken and swamping boats trying to zip in and gotcha. You don't want to ever be anchored from the side of your boat when the cops show up, a wake can flip you pretty fast.
  4. Actually the mentally infirm get hassled for a license, at least here they do.
  5. What are you calling tons of rope? Like the guys say 7X the distance from the bottom to your fastener on the boat. If that doesn't do it, take your second anchor or any heavy weight and use it as a ketch (I think that's what you call it)make a loop in the rode or use a mechanical fastener so you can slide it down the first anchors rode about half way. The ketch acts as a shock absorber and keeps the angle of the pull on your first anchor along the ground.
  6. I had to water the strawberries three nights last week to keep the frost off, I think the wild ones here were in blossom so they probably froze.
  7. The early ones froze, the late ones froze so we gave the really late ones a break and didn't pick any off them. It'll be a hard year on the plants where we left a few stalks on each only to have them freeze. But we did send some to market a few times, sold out every time. I found 2 very small morels while picking fiddleheads, looking in the usual spots but not finding any.
  8. Any video cameras in the area? You could almost track that through town or see who's following it if you can find it on a camera somewhere or even place an add in the paper "did you see my car" after all how many 79 fire chickens are there . Keep an eye on Kajiji and Ebay for parts, you might get lucky.
  9. When you get lots of people waiting you get careless trying to hurry. I missed seeing some guys drop a Trojan on the ramp, that would have been something to see. I don't remember if they had to get a crane in to lift it or not.
  10. The Mitchell mooching reels were used a lot when we started out rigging, they were a cheep way to hold a lot of line. Ask around and somebody might give you one if they don't use it anymore. Problem with them was the mono line would expand and distort the reel and bind on the shaft, you had to put on a dacron backer or I would wrap foam weatherstrip around the bottom of the reel to give room to expand. I use one on a 12' noodle rod with 10lb test Andie, I tried lighter line but the mechanics of rigging gave me some break offs. Holds almost enough line for your fish to reach the horizon.
  11. I provided some comic relief at the ramp the other day when I fell of the boat. Water was deeper than I thought.
  12. Its frosty out there, had to start irrigating at 2:45.
  13. Depending on you approval, the son in laws beer bottle might be your first choice.
  14. OK so the battery acid leaks out ,gets neutralized, somehow climbs back into the battery and neutralized the rest of the acid, sounds good to me.
  15. With all the crap happening in the world today you can look back at the "battle in Seattle" and Gee all those protesting hippies were right.
  16. Someone was telling me the other day that in Ca. they must use some kind of safety valve that would have prevented this. Time for a little genetic engineering and create a bacteria that makes oil. I guess there already is an alga that makes oil, we could make it in our garden ponds.
  17. In the days when you could go into a garage and find a cat sleeping in the old oil stove the floor was never above freezing in the winter and if you put a warmer battery on the cold floor it would weaken the battery by cooling it. Check it out they say store your battery cold but not below 32deg. The chemistry of a battery makes more power when warm than cold that's why they are rated in cold cranking amps at 0deg and cranking amps at 32deg and marine cranking amps at 80deg. If say a mechanic in 1950 took the battery out of a car that won't start in the winter and left the weak battery on the cold floor chances are it would weaken more if not freeze. Anyway this is where the myth came from, its not the cement its the extreme cold that weakens a battery.
  18. I would make it legal to fish in Ontario, run the ministry on the money saved from no longer administering the fishing license, enforcing the fishing license and court cost of prosecuting the fishing license along with revenue from the provincial parks that now goes to general rev. or demand the ministry be financed from general rev. like it should be. "If its there for everyone's use it should be paid for by everyone" If everything is to be paid for by user fees it creates the cost of administration. If we are going the route of user fees how about a golfers license, or a skiers license, that would be a great cash grab and I'm sure we could think up a hundred more. Why is it that everybody complains about the boaters card being a cash grab and the fishing license that is admittedly a cash grab, they want to increase it. I just think it should be legal to fish.
  19. I would make it legal for residents to fish, that would free up the co's so they could do something more important, and save the cost of issuing and enforcing licenses.
  20. Make sure to leave a few stalks on each plant, if you pick them clean it kills the plant.
  21. Haven't you got a cat or dog or a goldfish?
  22. A canoe is the #1 killer when it comes to boats followed by small tinners, exempting them from proof of competence just because they don't have a motor I don't understand at all . I would think Canoe owners are just as valuable to society as the rest of us. The one I just about ran over in Picton harbor could of used a boating coarse and was almost a Darwin victim.
  23. My uncle used to sell them to the restaurants when he was a kid, the smaller ones made good halibut. Fish house used to take them for the eggs.
  24. Sounds just like the farmall, motor should last about 50 years.
  25. Talk to the lien holder and pay with a check made out to the owner and the lien holder. As long as you get all parties to agree shouldn't be a problem.
