Many years ago I was working and listening to the talk radio station and It might have been Harris that was giving a huge tax rebate and people would call in and say I'm buying a car or fridge or whatever with the money. Then someone did the math and it added up to something like 5 bucks. The sad thing is how much it costs to run all the different taxes and user fees and rebates. They could save a bundle with one tax no Bull user fees and rebates, spend the money and git er done.

I remember now.. the feds were going to hold back equalization payments unless the prov. did the hst. Ontario has been trying to get a fairer share and hst was part of the deal.

Depends on what drive it is. The exhaust bellows can't leak into the boat so it would be the drive shaft bellows. Volvo and mercs aren't bad unless you have to do an alignment on the merc and then you'll probably be looking at a new bearing as well. You should have the drive off every year or so to grease the universal joints.

This was pushed by the feds. If I recall right the feds refused to collect pst at the border, the way it has been is that when you return from the U.S. you are supposed to figure out the pst on any U.S. purchases and remit the tax yourself. Now you can imagine how many actually do that. So to collect pst at the border they have to man crossings with a provincial agent or do the HST. As you are already required to pay the pst on U.S. purchases they can claim its not a tax hike its just a way of collecting tax owed.

The old safe boating guide said that you have to have charts or knowledge enough of the area to keep safe. How do you enforce something like that, if your not on the rocks you have had the knowledge to stay safe. A fast study of your gps that does not meet their requirements gives you the knowledge that does meet the requirements, so check out the gps before the cops get there . Cops here have tried to quiz boaters on the water but you don't have to know the names of places to stay safe, unless your parked on a pile of rocks I don't see how they can charge you and win in court for not having charts.

Although they use fishing on TV I don't think the fine is for fishing there ,its for being there. They are pushing it as a safety issue because these areas can be calm one minute and hazardous the next.

Prop identification selection and preformance

I was referring to your trolling speed, if you trim way up the prop gets less bite and the prop wash meets less resistance = less thrust , hopefully = less speed. -

Can you drop some speed by trimming the motor way up? -
Maybe now that it is done at service Ca. instead of customs they are collecting the tax.

You have the option of paying now or paying later when you License the boat. A few days , months or years later you get a letter asking if you ever paid the tax on the boat.

On another board a guy was bragging about using 40kg of salt to launch his boat on a frozen ramp. I pointed out that as he was a business that could get him looking at a $250,000 fine under fisheries act. They didn't think much of me after that but hey I don't make the laws.

Talked to a guy once , he was out with a friend and they set up a camera system . he said the whole thing was a waste of time. But then they set up an autopilot and that it was well worth having.

I'd take off too. Fishing is so over regulated they can just keep on digging till they find something or make something up. If I have a bucket in the boat they might call it my minnow bucket and thats good for a couple fines. Why is it illegal to fish in the first place. If you have a jug with the bottom cut off for a bailer some cops will take the lid off it and call it a funnel and charge you for no bailer. Cop threatened to charge a guy because the #s on his boat were not reflective tape. Why hang around to see if the officer has a bug up his butt.

Sometimes a real deep V will bite in and flip and some boats will skip when turned too tight. Most likely some body was caught by surprise at the tight turn and someone grabbed for him and so on. Have a buddy that was run over by his own boat... he was riding on the bow (someone else was operating the boat) when the universals in the out drive broke. The boat slowed so fast that he was thrown in front of it. He said he headed for the bottom as soon as he hit the water cause he knew he would be run over. Not a scratch on him. Boat was about 24'er.

My transducer has speed and temp so there is around 7 wires in the cable and after years of stowing the sonar after each trip the wires started to break at the connector.

Watch out for the booby trapped pot plants.

I'm not a pro but they sure get whiny after making a 2 hr run to their secret spot to find 60 guys having a fish fry. Desperation must be hard on mind, after a long day of no fish anywhere I lost a nice smallie at the boat, within 10 seconds theres a tourny guy jigging under my boat.

When the guys were duck hunting they would leave the canoe in the marsh and somebody from the nearby trailer park would come and burgle it, then we would have to go burgle it back. This went on for years. I had an old ceder strip in the marsh and somebody tried to set that one on fire. This was all on a very popular lake. A note in a jar might be an idea for conditions of use or just a thank you for a back woods boat, but remember all your safety stuff or some cop in an airplane will get you..

Friend left his 07 Four Winns Horizon 18 on my lawn, its got about 20 hrs on a 130 volvo so you don't need top look out for anything on this one. He wants $16,000 for it.

So we got some of people that know what color the flag is, its a long way from understanding how we elect a government but its a start. I would imagine somewhere in flag rules its a no no but a little civil disobedience is a good thing.

Ive seen a guy downrigging on L. O. with one. The hull speed of a 24' boat is something like 7 mph so if its going faster its planing, the new ones made to go faster have a strafe to give some lift. There's a video around where they put a couple huge mercs on one and got it over 100mph. Most of them only have a forty or fifty on them, put that on a mono hull deck boat and see how long it takes to get on top. One problem a guy had with big pontoon was, he was out cruising with a load of people and somebody on the front said look at that, they all moved to the front and the boat was going fast enough that it nose dived. He said he thought he was driving a submarine.
-
Slow? compared to what? I think the pontoon would outrun any mono hull of the same length and width and HP. They are making pontoons now for tubing and water skiing. I know a couple guys that have them on a small lake and they'll never go back . Lots of deck, lots of comfort but you have to look after them, your looking at at least couple grand in upholstery keep the sun off it or in a few years it'll look like a cadilac covered in primer.

My bud was duck hunting south of Fort McMurry and just about stepped on one. It was a hot sunny day and it was sound asleep, they both must have jumped 10 feet. I put up an electric fence to keep the coons out of the corn but this year I'm hoping the coyotes have got them all. Last year you could see the tracks between corn rows where they were hunting coons and skunks but the coyotes ate off one batch of corn they took a liking to. A few years back we had an old Siberian husky living in the corn fields, no coons that year.

Go back to ctc and get, I think its called a specific gravity tester, looks like an antifreeze tester or turkey baster. You draw up some of the fluid from the battery and a weighted gauge floating in the fluid tells you the condition of each cell. It wont lie to you and its cheap. the acid you spill on you will make your jeans look cool for a day or two before they fall apart.
