I'd have to agree with the statement "it is what it is". And that is first and foremost a fishing board. That is the tie that binds. I've only been a member for about 6 months and in that time I have helped and been helped in many ways. I've contributed my knowledge where I can, monies to help the French Family through motv8r's Fishing for Tyler auction, tossing Ryan Landry's Black Lures, wrote to my MP with regards to the Navigable waterways rewrite, and encouraged, congratulated many here on their adventures. I've been helped in purchasing a baitcaster and handheld GPS, and guided through various early season walleye tactics....of which I'm still perfecting hehe. Do I feel offended when my reports are viewed by 100+ but only 1 or 2 actually reply? Do I feel marginalized by members that have longer and deeper ties to some than I, and assumingly thus their comment may carry more weight than my own? The answer is a resounding NO. I contribute to share my experiences with other fisherfolk, maybe pick up a tip or two, or give back a tip or two. It's a big pond. There may be schools, there may be lurkers, there may be trophies and dinks alike in here. But all combined, such is our pond. Like it or lump it, it is what it is. reefrunner

I too vote for Garmin. The downside, like Barnie's mentioned, bluecharts don't detail some of the lakes I fish as well. Check with your retailer before purchase and ensure your most visted lakes are on the software package in detail.

The LeBaron's in Mississauga was clean out of the 7" and 6"6. They did have two 5"6" ULs left but wasn't in need of one. So I spent double what I came in for and bought a Fenwick Canadian Methods 7" med. Oh, and some more tackle. lol. Isn't that always the case? hahaha PS.The rod worked well for me this weekend

A beautiful weekend at the cottage: Good weather, friends from Michigan came up for a few days, family, and of course... All though it was a free fishing weekend, no liscence required, I couldn't convince our US friends to come out with me. My brother was too busy setting up the satellite for UFC and a little warn from taking care of 10 week old, soon to be lady killer, Bradley, my nephew. At least some families were taking advantage of this weekend's past opportunities First time I seen a family of Loons, with little ones in tow. Pretty cool. I was determined to stay away from the pike and bass and try to catch me some walleye this weekend. Spent all day Saturday ripping a chartruse bucktail jig in weeds. Managed these on the ultra light with 8 pound mono. Actually, it was the rod and reel set I got from the "Fishing for Tyler" auction through this board. Good fight on the UL. Needless to say, the walleye were not meant to be. You know, some people have a hrad time with Musky, others with pike, my #1 hardest species to catch is those pesky pickereyes. Dang tried near everything in the book, just gotta keep at it. I needed a different species in the boat, just for peace of mind. As soon as this guys hit, I was satisfied and packed it in. I never fished that far into the interior of moon river, so I don't know the area specifically. That being said, generally, I find the pike to be not too far from their back bay spawning grounds this time of year. If ya find a shallow weedy area, troll spoons or a deep diving xrap 20 feet out into the deeper water. It's worked for me in the past, however, I haven't been up that way this year and I've heard that the typical seasonal haunts are late coming...you might want to try a little closer to those reeds. Musky are there, troll BIG baits closer to drops and rock shoals. I suck at moon walleye and couldn't catch one if my life depended on it. I tried it all, just no luck I guess Good luck out there. The moon is my favourite playground. The fishing can be tough at times but the serenity of the area is awsome.

You could use a milk crate with PCV pipe to fit vertically for inline spinners. You could also get yourself an oversized CD booklet with plastic pockets inside for your hairpin spinners

Regardless of records that could have been, a great catch and a fish of a lifetime. Congrats Beats. That is one awsome fish.

Before buying the charts ask the store to show you them on their computers and insure that the particular lake is included in the package. The lake where my cottage was on was not so I didn't purchase it.

I got myself a Garmin and it is true that the hydrocharts are quite pricey. The basemap that comes with the unit is just that, a base map and not good quality. Until they release bluecharts with more inland lakes on them (kawarthas especially), I just use topo maps that show the contours of the shore in conjunction with paper hydro charts. reefrunner

I don;t think the dawg had been tested much since he won the belt last year. he kinda looked out of competitive shape during the "ultimate fighter" series. I say its gonna be a full 5round stand up slugfest, with forrest winning in a split. it's his time man.

Hello, Last weekend I noticed that the tip of my regular spinning outfit had been seriously damaged somehow and kept slicing my braid. I was too busy during the week to go get her replaced and now the weekend is upon me and I'm short a spinning rod. Now I know the old saying "you get what you paid for" but I'm looking to grab a cheap, decent temporary rod to pair up with my Shimano sedona 5000rb with 20# pp. I'll have time to stop into LeBaron's on the way up North and was looking through their flyer to notice that Shimano's Carbomax 7foot medium/fast is on sale (CMS70M2). Anybody own one of these rods? Opinions? Thanks in advance, reefrunner

Good job Lexx! That report reminds me a couple years back trolling for lakers on Kippawa in QC. Would see the laker on our portable humminbird coming up from the depths to hit our gangtroll. It was so cool and you could predict when you'd get a fish on. Anyway sounds like a great day on the water!
