Yeah, lucky for us, the canoe was already there as we go to this lake often. The 90lbs canoe on other portages...seeeessh. Not to mention a trolling motor and deep cycle battery. That'll put a serious hurt on anyone. We were so dirty by the end of our hike the mud probably would have cleaned us off!!! Oh, it was Arnold in The Predator...I hope I don't stumble across one of those, yikes. Can't wait to mission to that next lake, we need more than a weekend though.

Definately a must do for those pondering the option. Dig out those old maps and see what gems mother nature has tucked away! "looks like a good time i'll have to give it a try this year with the wife" -Aile Goby Now that's a challenge! lol.

Get away from the daily turmoil of life. Chess game and challenge of tapping into the food chain. There is no adventure in golf!!!

Backwoods Bassin Parry Sound Area July 12-13, 2008 Teamed up with Addy 79 from the board and left the big smoke at 2:30 am on Friday. Destination: An island on a small, unattended backlake that is home to hundreds if otr thousands of largemouth bass...the ultimate bass adventure. For those who do take trips into the backwoods for these green trout, you know what I'm talking about. Got to the trailer around 5am and had a nap, anxiously awaiting tomorrow's trail. BANG Nothing says "get up" like an air bomb wizzing by your head in mid-sleep. IT's TIME! Quick bite to eat, load up the canoe with all our gear and off down the lake to our gateway to bass heaven. The trail is a 1.14 km battle of bug laden, shin splittin' thick forest. This is the kind of damage you have to accept when treking through this bush. After doing it twice to mule all our gear, sweaty, swollen we come upon St. Peter's gate. We launch and paddle toward our home for the weekend, a nice island in the middle if the lake. Quickly we set up camp and gather enough wood to blaze through the night Once we were set up it was time to go out and start bassin'. Now I've read hundreds of articles and seen an equal amount of shows on the techniques used to catch bass. None of that knowledge is requisit for catching these bass. This lake see's maybe five anglers a year. You just drop a senko and wait five seconds and it's fish on. To illustrate this point, I lost a zippo lighter there two years ago--all gold and shinny -- and I found it looking for wood on the island this weekend I just wish the other human vistors to this spot weren't such pigs...leaving trash and bottles as they go to enjoy nature. Anyway back to the bassin'. Like I said it's child's play out there. We handily caught fish on almost every cast. A couple of bigguns got away but for the most part the average size is about 1 to 2 pound range. What these fish lack in size they make up in fight! Perfect eaters though. This is our dinner, fresh cut 'tatters and fillet o' fresh bass. Yum Yum For anyone with the opportunity to, I would highly recommend doing a small portage and discover a backwoods lake. The serenity is as tranquil as it gets, the adventure a worthy challenge and the fishing can't be beat. We caught anywhere between 75-100 bass this weekend. I luv backwoods bassin'. Reefrunner

It could be possible. The government admits that they introduced a chemical to kill/contain the sea lamprey in our Great lakes waters sometime ago. Gearing up for an asian carp invasion?

1. Use mini elastics to fasten you senko to your hook and they will last longer than a couple fish. 2. Got a bad sunburn and no aloe mor lotion? Take a cool bath with some baking soda in the water. 3. No matter what happens, KEEP YOUR HEAD!

I live in Mississauga and have fished all the spots that UF has mentioned. Only luck I've had is with the salmon in the fall and some cats by the Lakeshore bridge. Live bait under a bobber is your best bet, as I hardly have luck with lures in those areas already specifed. Good luck!

Welcome to the board BigD and nice seein ya back to the sport. As mentioned your rod and reel combo is a good choice. For the line I would recommend 20pound test power pro ("PP"). This line a little to no stretch and is very durable. When spooling your reel with PP, first start with a monobacking, this will help against line twisting around the core of the reel itself. 20# PP has an equivalent diameter to 8# monofilliment. Use any Mono (I like the trilene or rapala stuff). Tie mono to the core of the reel and spool just enough for a good base. Now the tricky part, hehe. Use a uni-to-uni knot to tie together the mono and braid together. Do a search on here and you may pull up some diagrams, or try google. Then simply spool the rest of your reel with the PP. You won't be disappointed. Hard Baits My personal favourite is the xrap. casts like a dream and has a nice wiggle to it. Very versatile. Ripplin redfins and shad raps are a good choice to own as well. WARNING It's easy to break the bank when at a tackle shop. lol. I know from expeience. I can believe witness to a massive perch. 5 or 6 pounds may be much. I wish we had the photo proof, a picture was taken on a fun saver, but the film was lost. Six years ago on a nice portage lake just off our resort near gowganda, my cousin, I and some friends were trolling with williams spoons and our friend Steve catches a huge perch that I thought was a walleye when it was coming up...it was the biggest perch I've ever seen. I can estimate that it was three pounds minimum, beating the current Ontario record, but back then we didn't know or care much for records. It sure was tasty though. Another fishermans tale? Without the verification, I am leaving myself open to injury but I give it my Scout's honour (and I was a scout).

Underwater logs and semi - to fully submerged stumps are good place to drop tubes and senkos. Good ambush for the Bass, plus they like the shade on a warm summer day.

Awsome report. haven't been to Sparrow in years. Fished it alot with my Dad when I was younger. Never caught a smallie from what I remember. Thanks for sharing
