  1. Spiel makes some very nice rods. PM him and ask for some beginner's advice. I'm sure he will send you in the roght direction.
  2. Maureen as I mentioned to Beans you have to remember that what you are accepting as a responsible pet owner is out of love and desire to do the right thing for Dallas. It's a hard thing to accept, but in time you will still feel the loss but will have the happier memories remain with you forever. Hang in there and give that extra love to your other pets...Dallas would want it that way.
  3. Where we are on Huron there is ice out as far as you can see. The nice part is all it takes is some warmer temps, a bit of rain and wind and that can change in a matter of a few days. Starting tomorrow that will begin to happen. Our local Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby runs from April 27 - May 6 with many fishing events taking place prior to those days, subject to weather and ice conditions. So early April should bring a boat out of storage as far as I'm concerned or a least move it from the large garage to the one at home.
  4. She's spoiled enough and I do mean spoiled. Example... Her dog food is all home made by the wife and I consisting of rice, carrots, olive oil, and either Chicken breast, hamburger or turkey for protein. The nice part is if we run out of food we can always eat hers. MMMMM maybe her Vi-Sorbit vitamins too!
  5. As mentioned in another post this morning we headed off to Gander Mountain in Pt Huron Mich. First we took a look at some other tackle in the local Wal-Mart and Meyers, went to CiCi's all you can eat Pizza, Salad and Soup buffet for the amazing price of $4.79 ( and the pizza is very good as was everything else ). Finally got to Gander Mountain and decided if we didn't spend any dollars we would go to Bass Pro in Utica. Well we never made to to Bass Pro. Gander was having an in store sale on some St Croix, Fenwick and G Loomis rods. Spent a lot of time going through the selection and finally ( since I wanted a new spinning rod ) decided on a St Croix Avid/AS66MLF2 for $99.99 US total with tax $105.99. I am partial to St Croix rods and this will be another in the arsenal to assist in my never ending quest to catch Smallmouth and hopefully some Walleye. For the size of their store I really feel GM has a great selection, very helpful sales people and attractive prices. I really feel that I'm lucky to have one so close to where I live. That being said sometime in the next 5 or 6 weeks were going to Cabela's in Dundee Mich and making a day out of it. A friend of mine can't believe a 240000 sq ft. store devoted to the outdoors can be that big and make enough to make it pay...he WILL be surprised!
  6. Who ever did that is a charter member of the BIA club....
  7. The only problem I know of anyone having with a Civic was transmission related at over 350000K and with 3 young adults under 19 driving it. I don't know of anyone that isn't satisfied with their Honda or Toyota. Heck my daughter and son in law have an Accord and Odyssey, my neighbor a Odyssey, Civic and an Element and they have all been trouble free. My Son bought his wife a Toyota corolla, and a good friend and his wife have a Camary and a Tundra, in fact they have had Toyotas for over 20 years and will not buy another brand. Don't think you can go wrong with any of these choices
  8. All that keeps going through my mind is " That's one lucky mother trucker"
  9. Thanks, I'm haeding over to Gander Mtn in Port Huron this afternoon and will check out the Bass Pro flyer to see if I can get some stuff here cheaper. Better yet maybe we will take a ride to Bass Pro in Utica Mich too!
  10. Add a couple hundred to it and buy something newer, preferably from someone you know or a dealer that will give you some warranty. If you do the latter put money down to hold it and pick it up when your ready to use it and then do just that I.E. use it and use it and use it to make sure everything seems ok.
  11. Check out the prices on the Mercury lodge returns that Port Colborne Marine sells after Mercury goes over them. Some real good buys to be had. http://www.portcolbornemarine.com Most motors have warranty left or you can purchase warranty. You may hear some folks say they were used by a lodge blah blah blah, but a few people I know including my son and some closer friends bought these motors and have been very happy with not only the money they saved but the way the motors have preformed.
  12. I have had that feature on my Eagle Ultra III plus for years and agree it's more of a "extra" but not what I thought it would be. One thing I do like however is if I'm trolling a shoreline on a shield or rocky lake I do use it to watch and make sure I don't ding the prop.
  13. That looks like one GREAT time being had by all...with maybe one small exception!
  14. Ok..Ok I'll admit it I have a Tonka, had it since I was a kid and it still rolls perfectly on the kitchen floor. Now thats longevity!
  15. Nothing ever changes and everything old is new again when dealing with companies like DE. While in university ( 44 years ago ) I had the opportunity to work selling the then most popular encyclopedia on the market ( remember this was prior to the internet...hell almost prior to television ) While at the training seminar there were three points they continually drove home. 1. Make sure the husband and wife are both home 2. Make sure you get into the house to make your presentation. 3. You never hear the word NO nor the phrase MAYBE LATER Sounds like the same thing is still being done today. After the session I walked out and took a job in a shipping department of the Meyercord company shipping Mylar decals around the world. A friend, that stayed with the encyclopedia company, at the end of summer asked me how much I made and when I told him, he was so mad at himself for staying and making next to nothing that to make him feel better I treated him to a few beers.
  16. We sure do. We have a platform feeder in the back and a couple of hanging feeders in the Birch tree by our front window. As mentioned in another thread watching them feed is my serenity in the morning before facing the day. Now we do get squirrels and I have to admit they can drive you nuts but their ability to figure out how to get to food is amazing and does make me laugh at times. It's fun figuring out ways to see if you can keep them away from the food. So far this winter squirrels 8 me 0 .
  17. If you don't want to spend any money than just play the old song "Afternoon Delight" and let nature take it's course. Now if it's all guys you may................sorry couldn't resist!
  18. If they are only on one side of the fish and due to tha angle of the marks I vote trolling motor prop at low speed.
  19. All I can say is my heating bills sure reflected temps of the past few weeks. Drives me nut when one tenant calls to say their cold and the other next door has their window open. Oh well I guess the good outweighs the bad in that case. As far as keeping warm and comfy, think I'll move in with Al and Tipper Gore where they use and pay extra for all that "green" energy to power their mansion next year during winter. Wonder what it cost him to have those private green hydro lines run to his place? Maybe we can get them to run some up here! Hey that would be great we could have red lines for those not so wealthy, green for the rich and orange for those just trying to act wealthy. Add to that smart meters and wow everyone would know where everyone else stands on energy conservation!
  20. You have to admit there were some great days back then when no one cared about the future because nature would always replenish for years to come. Yes we were short sighted then but it still was a hell of a lot of fun when you didn't worry about every thing you did and how you did it. But now back to the reality of today.........
  21. From the beginning of utility marketers being on the scene I have followed the pricing. When they first started many years ago I locked in @ 10.87 cents a m3 for 5 years and as gas prices increased I can't tell you how many times they tried to get me to sign or modify my contracts as they were loosing lots of dollars. At the end of the term I did not renew as I figured the companies that were still around had learned a lesson and since they were in business to make money, not help you, I would closely follow the local utility price ( in our case Union Gas ) vs the marketer price. In all honesty I can say that over the years and up to right now I have save lots of dollars by staying with Union Gas. Since we own income buildings that are heated by gas hot water high efficiency low pressure boilers following the pricing is the only way to go to make sure you are paying as little as possible. When a marketer shows you a contract make sure you look at the delivery cost, it is always 1 to 3 cent a M3 more than your utility and has to be figured into the total cost. If interested you can go to http://www.energyshop.com/ to do all comparisons. Now when it comes to Ford trucks thats a different story....LOL
  22. From what I have watched on different television shows, yes even old Henry and Italo did shows from there in years gone by, it seems like a great place. From the costs involved in going there http://www.beauchene.com/ I would think that for them to enjoy success year after year they must be doing something right. I would think if you called them and asked you question directly you would get a straight answer.
  23. That's why Rocky and Bullwinkle split up. Rocky claimed he was getting real crazy as he got older and you never knew what he was going to do next!
  24. You made the right decision, now go use that highspeed!
  25. We have been at this point before and since I placed the original post let me clarify my reason for posting with some qualifying remarks. If you wish to lock or delete the post that is your right as a moderator and although I admittedly would not like it I will simply accept it as the censorship you have in you position. Rick I don't want to get into a deep discussion on guns and gun laws but wish to point out that we will be most likely be heading into an election within the next few months and if the Liberals regain power, POLICY then becomes legislation. Without clarification of regulation #47 no one except those directly associated with or those that have taken the time to research the resolution ( and I would hope the OFAH has ) should make others aware of what is contained therein or at least cause those interested to do their own research. My purpose in posting this was, as you can see by my reference to the article and page in the magazine, to make those interested aware so they can do research to see if they are for or against this resolution before it has a chance to simply be enacted in the house and voted upon. I also disagree on your statement regarding "banning people hunting guns will lead to the banning of legitimate hunting guns has never held water here. If you really need an AK-47, hunt something less armored." Obviously you are not nor probably ever were a hunter of sport shooter. If you were you would realize that hunters and legitimate shooters in Canada have been singled out as the cause of crime in Canada and in particular Canadian cities, not those that commit the weapon crimes. To me a semi-auto 308 or 30-06 or for that matter a Browing, Winchester, or Remington shotgun is not a AK-47 but a tool that if used properly, can provide those who enjoy hunting as much pleasure as fishing does for you and I.
