Did anyone get the Amber Alert last night?
Woodsman replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Didn't happen here. Maybe a small cable company is the reason? Many at work today mentioned it happening to them. -
Many of the unapproved ones don't have the certification due to the manufacturors not summiting them for Canadian DOT testing process. Some may very well pass the testing but due to predicted sale volumes certification may not be monetarily responsible. There are cases of PFD's getting US approval but not Canadian for this reason.

$210 for cats. -
This is correct & for a guy like me who wears a 2XL float suit most PFD's will not fit over it.

Yes but that area was open water only a couple days before. Tragic but he got turned arround in a storm at night & ventured too close to the ferry channel. This area was effected by the ferry route. RIP George.

My big problem with this thread is an offer for a trip and only after to mention a fee & contes t. Even later to mention no idea if it's even a legal idea. -

No it's a Sport B. Options are auto, hardtop, side steps, larger wheels, tow group & 3.73 gears. Added after market Detroit Truetrac in the rear axle. Well worth the $1,500. BesTop TrekTop NX for the summer. In my opinion the 3.73 gears are an excellent addition if using tires larger than the basic 29" standard tires. Our tires are 32". They allow the engine to operate in it's power band better. For the auto very important but even with the standard if you go to 6th gear you will be lagging the engine with low rpm's. Also better for towing. Just remember JEEP = just empty every pocket. -

My 2014 took only 5 weeks from the order date. I went with Krown. Sometimes the long waits are caused by the dealers. They do not enter the order in the system if they can order a higher paying model first or they wait to group orders. I don't believe it that the manufacturer causes this long of a delay, but your individual dealer not processing the order imediately. Although my 5 weeks was unusally quick 8-10 weeks is more common once the order is sent through. Did you go for the 3.73 gears? -

Your figures are nowhere even close. Years back when I worked at a movie theater IIRC it was 90% to the movie studio for the first 2 weeks. Each 2 weeks after the first it dropped by 5%. This explains 2 things. 1. Cost of pop, chocolates & popcorn. 2. The reason the big theaters have disapeared for the multiplexes with much small individual showing rooms. With these smaller rooms the theaters can keep the movie much longer increasing their % of the boxoffice they keep. Today the modern theaters in no way have the same atmosphere. My first night I worked at the theater was opening night for the first Rocky movie. Theater held just under 700 & was filled. Also worked the oridginal Star Wars. Our once a year midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a wild night.

It is a common practice in some other countries. Just not here.

Not in Canada. It is actually illegal to wear medals that have not been awarded to you personally. It is a C.C.C. (Article 419) offense.

Let's be totally honest here. The Legion has lost the appeal to many of the younger veterans. (post Korea) It is mostly a place for those without any military service. My biggest disapoint was on a Rememerance Day a few years back when someone without the proper knowledge thanked a Legion member for his service to the country due to his many Legion medals on his right chest without a single one on his left chest. This Legion member never served a day in the Forces but was quick to respond with "thank you". The real veterans with one or two medals on their left side where ignored without any correction from the Legion member. Any medals on the right side mean only service to the Legion or other veterans groups ect. Medals on the left chest are the only ones recognized by the Federal government. I've also ran across a few Legion members with their Legion medals on the left chest. These sure didn't like my reaction. In fact there are many former service members without any medals who actually served their country in a way no Legion member without any previous military serve could ever hope to. Also not all medals on the left chest indicate military service but are part of the Canadian Honours list recognized by the Federal government.

It was a moving ceremony in Ottawa today. I just didn't expect to appear on national TV when I was there.
-
I was told I appeaded a few times on the CTV broadcast from Ottawa. Don't know if they showed the interveiw they did with me before the ceremony started. CBC camera panned by me also numerous times.
-
My father served in the Merchant Marines in WW2 and in the Canadian Army in Korea.
-
Just remember when you are at the ceremonies and enjoying a beer after that some of our service people are deployed overseas and do not have the time for much of a ceremony or a chance to have a beer.
