    I'm itching to get out, but this area is so infested with moose hunters I have to wait until rifle season closes before I can really get out and most of the mallards and woodies are gone by then. Hoping to try and dial in some northern ducks on the ottawa river later in the season as well.

    Skidoo, Polaris, and Arctic Cat all offer long track utility minded fan-cooled 2 stroke sleds for under 10 grand. There's nowhere near enough market for 440 cc class sleds anymore. 550 fans are light and bulletproof anyways, super easy to crank over too

    The VK 540 is a capable workhorse but it's nearly 200 pounds heavier than the tundra and voyageur, and unless youre hauling heavy loads, you don't need a 20" wide track.

    I have a Voyageur 144 550 fan...i break a lot of tight trails in deep fluffy snow and I still can't believe what it goes thru, pulling a sleigh full of gear too. My last sled was a Safari too, you will be 10x more capable offtrail whether you go the indy or the tundra. The tundra has the pogo stick front suspension so its tippier but more nimble thru the trees, voyageur is a little more manageable if you wanna put some miles on the trails.

    I have the 3/4 and the 5/6 wt. The little guy is a blast for small creek specs. The 5/6 lacks punch for lake casting...cant wait to replace it with something like an Aetos. As for good quality starter setups, Cabelas brand is perfectly suitable and will give you a good introductory experience. I have a prestige II reel and it's excellent for the price.

    I really enjoyed reading that! Good for you for taking on that portage trip. Would love to explore those big east coast rivers, they sound incredible.

    For anyone who liked my backlake fishing reports in the past here, I have a YouTube channel for documenting our adventures now. Our first serious video was uploaded today (our first upload was just a quick trial run). We fish 3 lakes in one day, catching brook trout, lake trout, smallies, and pike and enjoy a killer shore lunch breakfast. We're not professionals but we're both happy with the outcome, hopefully some of you will enjoy!

    5 degrees this morning, huge smallies chomping in 2-4 feet of water. It is shaping up to be an excellent September for lakers and brook trout to round off the season.

    Agreed. IF you can get 3.92 gears and use tow/haul mode, you should be fine. Towing that distance, you'd probably make your money back on the diesel in fuel savings by the time you get home.

    Viking suits are generally less than $150 and are a great product for the price. Ive had my jacket for at least 5 years and everything works perfectly on it, no rips or tears and I dont baby my stuff.

    Clamp on tite loks are my favourite. Been using them for years...they hold up

    Nipissing is probably comparable to GBay in terms of musky pop'n density, but if you do get into one, you can almost guarantee it will be beastly.

    Lakes in NE Ontario are mostly in the low 70's (maybe a bit higher after the last 2 days) and the water is high but not overly so. Definitely higher than typical mid summer levels.

    Sounds like a pretty typical northern spruce bog lake. Probably lots of fun for a day or two, but not a week eh?

    12 bucks a dozen is absolute highway robbery. Every corner store in town here has them, about a dollar more per dozen. Sounds like they just found a hot area. If fishing was as easy as just dipping their worms in the right colour, it wouldn't be very fun. Ive used em, they probably work just as well as normal worms most of the time, but beyond that I haven't seen anything special.
